You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

Hours, even. felt like years.

Asuitablecat · 10/05/2020 22:51

I used to play the theme tune tqo vdv on my recorder.

worstofbothworlds · 10/05/2020 22:52

Not massively relevant to this thread but it's like the government are actually in denial that universities exist.
The thought occurred to me. Together with the twin thoughts that our union is even more toothless than the teaching unions (and totally mired in woke studies) and that we typically go back in October to (broken record here) a hefty dose of Freshers' Flu.

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 22:55

Prosecco, we'll all be teaching in tents to go with our buckets!

Piggy, a thread, fairly sure it's a spoof, is a SAHM who is going to send her children in tomorrow, in uniform, because she and her husband just can't take it anymore!

worstofbothworlds · 10/05/2020 22:58

Testing is still a shambles- proper testing needs to be in place before we open more schools and workplaces.
And while in schools you may be able to twist parents' arms to get teenagers with symptoms tested, my students who lie about computer problems aren't going to bother if it means a lengthy journey (or, frankly, if it means getting out of bed).

WhyNotMe40 · 10/05/2020 23:02

(thanks Piggy, I will go search for the tweets when I feel strong enough)

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 10/05/2020 23:07

Sally loves cheese tents!!! No I can't possibly go in a tent!! I've never in 40 odd years been in one and don't intend to start now.
Went camping once but had a glamping pod - and lots of gin. Now there's an idea my class sit on the grass outside my glamping pod an I will teach through a window.

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 23:13

Now that sounds far more doable than a marquee with the sides open, Prosecco!

CallmeAngelina · 10/05/2020 23:14

Oh, it wasn't just tents. I think compost loos were mentioned too, by a fabulous teacher-basher called Biscuits0110.
She's on fire today. (Lucky we all have a supply of buckets ready).

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/05/2020 23:27

Sounds like Glastonbury is a go then!

Just worked out that if First schools include y4 plus key workers which may now include teacher's kids, they'd have way more than half the school open. Only y2 and 3 not in. Potentially 6-7 out of 10 classrooms in a 2 form entry school in. (If include up to a class of 30 KW)

It'll have to be only R and y4 to be vaguely doable.

pfrench · 10/05/2020 23:54

but are the unions tracking numbers of school workers who have died?

Deaths by occupation and occupations most exposed to virus - 2 reports being published tomorrow at 9.30.

pfrench · 10/05/2020 23:57

Going to be interesting teaching a year 6 or year 1 class, while also planning, providing, and marking work for year 3 and 4.

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 23:58

That'll be worth reading, pfrench, thanks for the heads up. (Sorry, don't mean that how it sounds, you guys know what I mean.)

JimmyGrimble · 11/05/2020 01:28

We are already being referred to as ‘The Blob’ in the Tory press (again) ... saw on Twitter that the DM is alleging we have had instructions from our unions to sabotage schools reopening! All our fault. Plus ca change!

bettybattenburg · 11/05/2020 02:54

Oh the chaos when a wasp is spotted and then dear little George pipes up don't worry, it will kill the spider behind Millie. Joyce Grenfell's classic sketch then becomes George sit down and stfu.

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 06:20

Morning ! Did we all sleep?

This is all very interesting:

Saucery · 11/05/2020 06:32

We will lose staff because in addition to shielding themselves and others there are those able to work the rota now who have primary aged dc at other primaries.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2020 07:14

Coffee for all. Irish if needed.

I didn't get to sleep till about 1. Around the time ds2 decided to have a bad dream.

Argh.

MossWalk · 11/05/2020 07:17

Couldn’t sleep either. Desperate to see the promised guidance.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2020 07:38

I think I might have the controversial view but I wondered if R and y1 are for safeguarding reasons. The younger you are the more vulnerable to abuse.

I think they're aiming to have 50% of a normal primary in, which will be roughly what it is with KW children. Which means groups of 15 per class. Which means staffing. Which won't work as we were struggling for staffing before.

reefedsail · 11/05/2020 07:44

There was no mention of maintaining social distancing. I assumed they meant for YR, 1, 6 to go back as normal.

I have Y3-6 in my class. TBH I'd rather just have them all back than try to teach the Y6s in school and continue to provide remote learning for the rest. They all have EHCPs, so I'm minded that they just all come in.

reefedsail · 11/05/2020 07:45

When/ where is the guidance supposed to emerge?

MossWalk · 11/05/2020 07:46

I think I may scream if I see ‘closure’ written any more. What sort of closure do you get from 2m single file lines?!

Appuskidu · 11/05/2020 07:52

There was no mention of maintaining social distancing. I assumed they meant for YR, 1, 6 to go back as normal.

Surely not? 30 to a class?! The unions will never go for that.

pinkrocker · 11/05/2020 07:52

I didn't sleep very well either. Post 3pm nap looming!
