You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

So pink, let's have a 3 tier discussion!

What do you think?

Year R, 1 and 4 would be too many... year 8 ? Yuk.

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:32

Plus, year 8 are 'secondary' by age.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/05/2020 19:32

Sorry Piggy, don't want to unintentionally spread fake news. I hope it is true for the sake of the teachers.

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:35

I think the problem is all studies on childhood spread (thus far) are done during at least semi lockdown (obviously) so any country releasing children to the wild really is conducting a science experiment.

FrippEnos · 10/05/2020 19:35

It sounds very much like schools will have to sort the shit details out.

pinkrocker · 10/05/2020 19:36

Piggy we reckon (group chat of our school teachers on FB messenger) it'll be Y8 but that'll be frowned upon by kids and their parents who will want Y6 back...

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 19:36

Did you expect anything else, Fripp?!

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:40

I suspect middle schools may throw year 8s to upper schools to deal with and there will be some horrific attempts at move up days. And likewise, people will want year 4 to visit the middle schools.

Good post on NEU Facebook page in response

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:42

One important thing to note is that this shows the government did not listen to ASCL. This is Not Good.

RigaBalsam · 10/05/2020 19:42

Secondary bit was so vague

' may get some time'

greathat · 10/05/2020 19:43

I've missed the tent thread, unless it was one I just hid.

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/05/2020 19:44

I did read somewhere that the younger ones don't spread it as much so the science may be the logic there.

Yes, but every single one of those year 1 and reception children will need an adult to drop them off. In my school that’s 100 adults.

pinkrocker · 10/05/2020 19:44

Piggy yep I just worry about both transitions in and out of MS.

Useruseruserusee · 10/05/2020 19:46

@flamingoandjohn

We are a two form entry in inner London, where we are it’s considered very small. The school down the road is 7 form entry, that’s 210 children per year group. And it’s primary too, so 600+ adults across the three year groups.

Madness.

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 19:47

Yes, but every single one of those year 1 and reception children will need an adult to drop them off. In my school that’s 100 adults.

Many of them will be accompanied by siblings, because they'll still be too young to stay at home.

Many of them will be reluctant to leave their parents. It only takes one crying to set off others.

Madness. Absolute madness.

phlebasconsidered · 10/05/2020 19:49

I've actually had a cry. I'm really really unhappy now. My trust is not one renowned for giving a shit about staff.

ThisIsMeOrIsIt · 10/05/2020 19:50

The children I go to see (SEN Teacher) are mostly Years R, 1 and 6. So I guess I'll be going in as normal after half-term. Except my job is impossible to do with social distancing as I have to check personal equipment, so that'll be the end of social distancing for me, I suppose!

This whole thing is a nightmare. That kind of nightmare where you try and wake up but you can't...

Grasspigeons · 10/05/2020 19:56

We're a 3 form entry infant school so its 2/3 of us back plus key worker children.

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:59

Not massively relevant to this thread but it's like the government are actually in denial that universities exist.

RigaBalsam · 10/05/2020 20:02

What did NEU say its says link is broken.

RigaBalsam · 10/05/2020 20:04

Primary colleagues in the words of staff

#solidarity

I am so sorry.

Woman on sky news saying she is not sending her kids back that early.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/05/2020 20:04

I agree it is crazy BUT we do have to get back at some point. We have weeks of notice. They are providing guidance. It's pretty much guaranteed we won't see 7,8,9 til September so long term plans can be made.

Useruseruserusee · 10/05/2020 20:09

I’m already imagining the phone calls from parents demanding that we take older siblings alongside R/Y1. That will be fun!

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 20:10
