You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

So, Ireland has schools reopening as step 5, but we have it as step 2?!

namechangedyetagain · 10/05/2020 19:12

So basically the two worst years for hygiene at the best of times to be the first in. Yay!

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 19:14

Wait for the threads about school return!!

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 19:15

And the two years with the pedagogy most removed from socially distancing.

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:16

Chaos and confusion in the three tier system to ensue as predicted!

RigaBalsam · 10/05/2020 19:16

But all big ifs and not until Wednesday.

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:16

I cannot wait for those 'few weeks' of summer with year 9...

SleepymummyZzz · 10/05/2020 19:16

My god, this is worse than I thought. I am in Reception and this will be impossible, why send the lower years back first!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/05/2020 19:17

Exam classes may have some contact with their teachers - secondary schools will not be open long before summer break

Guess more details tomorrow

Year 9 will not be back

I just cannot imagine the classroom as we are squished as it is. Windows don't open fully (H&S), 2 sinks for 60 children. It's like we'll be an experiment Shock

There is already at least two *SallyLovesCheese Grin

Appuskidu · 10/05/2020 19:20

I can’t imagine it will be all of year R and year 1 at once, will it?

We are an infant school-if we have 12 classrooms (yR/1/2) with 240 (120 in each year) children spread across them, how is that going to work?!

SallyLovesCheese · 10/05/2020 19:20

They'll clearly end social distancing on June 1st then. Why else send back those young years? Or as an experiment, you're probably right, Name. Sad

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:21

I am also now imagining all the secondary schools planning exams for those few weeks....

And the private schools that have broken up by the time those 'few weeks' come around.

MossWalk · 10/05/2020 19:21

He did say phased return in small groups.

My head is spinning. Desk and chair Reception is far more damaging than staying at home for 99% of them.

pinkrocker · 10/05/2020 19:23

3 tier system ignored again. Bah.

Mistressiggi · 10/05/2020 19:23

Good grief I'm still posting on the last thread and there are three pages on here!

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/05/2020 19:25

I have taught reception and 1.
They are the worst ages to have back in.
No idea of social distancing or any kind of hygiene.

And why? Many households have more than one child so it is unlikely the families will go back to work. Those ages have the longest time to make up for lost time. Early years and year 1 are important but I venture that these children have the best chance to make up for lost time.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/05/2020 19:28

I did read somewhere that the younger ones don't spread it as much so the science may be the logic there.

Asuitablecat · 10/05/2020 19:29

I was looking at his modality. Lots of uncertainty.

My local.groups have go n e nuts cos they're scared of an.influx of English exercisers, while we're still stay.home.

Piggywaspushed · 10/05/2020 19:30

I don't think there is any scientific proof there herc. It would be excellent if it were true, of course.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 10/05/2020 19:31

I'm just a parent, thank you to the teachers on here, I recognise that you've had it tough!

My DD is year 1 and she's not going back on 1st June regardless of what Boris says. I was undecided until that announcement, but when he said it might happen from 1st June I had a definite answer in my mind. Fuck no!

So I'll take the fine if needs be. There's just no way anyone can control 30 x 5 yr olds, make them stay apart and keep their hands clean. I have 1 and have to stand over her to make sure she actually uses soap and rubs it in even though we've told her roughly 83 million times.

No!
