So continuing on from our boycott/flowers we need to continue to defend our profession. This is teacher/school staff chat - if you do not fall into that category please start you own thread elsewhere.

I think I found out where you know who is COG

RigaBalsam · 30/04/2020 16:57

I’ve given myself minor palpitations thinking about supervising a roomful of kids with bunson burners. Is there any toffee vodka left?

Our safety goggles were sent ti the hospital. Doubt we will get new ones for a long time.

Oh nobby is my new favourite person.

pinkrocker · 30/04/2020 17:37

@DrMadelineMaxwell I want that mask!
I can't see how FT (my subject) can be taught with everyone wearing masks, we have to eat and taste stuff Grin
I've been writing theory lessons all day and they are dry as toast. At least when we get back the theory is depending on how many have accessed it done and we can go straight into baking and cooking

Hercwasonaroll · 30/04/2020 17:39

Nobby is my new hero.

shamppoandtea · 30/04/2020 17:45

Nobby for PM

fuckweasel · 30/04/2020 18:01

@mistressiggi I will watch that with interest after John Swinney's comment a couple of days ago about going back to school before mid-August being a possibility!

Everytimeref · 30/04/2020 18:01

I have been in school all week with key workers students, now I have started coughing. No other symptoms. Hoping it's just a cough not "The cough".

pfrench · 30/04/2020 18:05

I was in last Thursday and yesterday, and I've just started with a sore throat. Like nothing to quite ouch in about 2 hours. Erk.

pinkrocker · 30/04/2020 18:07

I think we need to invent some "quarantini"cocktails for "locktail" hour just for us teachers... Any suggestions?

Cantaloupeisland · 30/04/2020 18:08

Thanks for talking about getting children back to school but no detail until next week Boris, another week of media and facebook speculation about what it might be like and when, I can't bear ir! 😫

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/04/2020 18:10

Nobby gets my vote!

From the guardian report:

Department for Education figures]] show just one in 10 pupils classed as vulnerable – those in care, with a social worker or with certified special needs or disabilities – went to school in England last week, despite being encouraged to do so.

The only thing is though that a huge number of pupils with Sen would be kept at home as some have underlying health conditions or would find working with unfamiliar staff unsettling at school.

A number of pupils are better maintaining a routine of going to school especially in sen schools but certainly we (Sen) only had 5% the first two weeks and perhaps about 10-15% of the whole school in after Easter. There probably was more of a focus on those pupils who have social workers and so are classed vulnerable in this way as well as the key workers.

My son's school have a high %of keyworking parents and so pupils with a a plan were encouraged to stay at home unless parents were key workers.

I skim read the documents but I don't think that's been taken into account in the data, particularly that Sen schools would have had to be completely open to fulfil that directive.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/04/2020 18:12

Sorry bold fail:

Unions summoned to DfE school re-opening safety talks as PM promises to set-out plans next week
Teaching unions will be consulted on Government school reopening plans at talks with DfE officials tomorrow, Tes has learned,
Talks between officials and the unions will focus on safety aspects of bringing more pupils back into schools such as PPE needs and how to observe social distancing measures.
The meeting will take place as the government seeks to finalise its outline plan for resuming school provision - which Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed will be set out next week.

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2020 18:27

Also, 1 in 10 of all pupils is a crude stat : how many are year 11, for example?

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2020 18:29

Why on earth would TES chose to use that aggressive picture of BJ for that article? It frightened me from the get go!

LaProfesora · 30/04/2020 18:32

What do you all think? Will we be back before May half-term? Wfh has been a bitch 😂

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2020 18:35

I've liked WFH. Sorry!

Appuskidu · 30/04/2020 18:44

Very interesting! Hopefully they’ll get some answers to their lists of questions. I wonder what the unions’ priorities will be?

I can’t see how any plan will work particularly well-I think anything suggested will piss off 50% off the population.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/04/2020 18:46

Well, BoJo mentioned face coverings, so I'm glad I've got my feline cat face cover on order.

They have LOTS of different varieties.

My teen is going to despair when it arrives and declare it 'sad'.

Or pinch it for herself if she likes it.

PerplexingWords · 30/04/2020 18:47

Plus making plans is very different from agreeing dates/time scales.

twinkletoesimnot · 30/04/2020 18:52

I agree Appuskido - I just can't see a way of pleasing everyone.

If we only partially open it could potentially make things more difficult for some working parents, but I can't see how we can open but still social distance Confused
