They could work like other people have to do.

Peter is head of a department in a talent and marketing agency.

Harriet has left her NHS job and is starting a role in a private foundation which uses her professional skills.

I don't see anything particularly to criticise there.

Yes - she chose basic jam in basic flavours

I love buying jams from my local jam seller who does interesting flavours - pear & ginger, raspberry, chocolate & chilli, or my favourite, raspberry, rhubarb & eau de vie.

Mine’s goosegog jam. We have found it in a local(ish) grocers, so we don’t have to order it on online any more. And it’s cheaper, about £4.50 a jar.

Harry must see the news. Do you think in some tiny part of his brain, he has realised what sort of family he married into?

Honestly? I’m not convinced Harry does watch much news or read any newspaper articles that don’t concern him or his immediate family.

Although I do agree that even his eyes must be opening at the latest twists.

Imagine Tommy J is the Prince of England's brother in law, uncle to the King's grandchildren & Samantha their auntie & sister in law to 6th in line to the throne .

I actually think the Markles got off lightly compared to the hideous scrutiny the "Middle Class Middletons " got from the press.

And therein lies an irony. The Middletons have worked for a living, made money, prioritised family, lived quietly, have a rogue relation and, arguably, behaved less than well over the folding of their business. The Markles' story includes divorce, drugs, probably jail, possibly paedophilia, possibly sex tourism, orgies, alcoholism, and public feuding.

They could work like other people have to do.

I'm pretty sure that Peter Phillips founded a sports management and corporate hospitality company and works for that.

IIRC He has previously worked (marketing?) jobs for a bank, a car company and FI racing. I'm pretty sure I also read that he worked for a company that did something mundane - like producing digital maritime shipping certification.

He gets no taxpayer funding and is not a titled or working royal, although he attends family events such as Christmas and summer in Balmoral.

Starryfifty · Today 11:53

What could harry do now? He's stuck with her and her awful family now. Divorce? What about the hamlets? She would most likely get full custody and take them back to cali. Also, he may be besotted but in some sort of his addled brain he must know she would sell him down the river.

Yep & the Middletons really got dragged through the mud, James & Carole got a particularly hard time.
The media have largely left the Markles especially Doria alone

The Middletons have made a huge success of their lives both materially and personally and produced well rounded and grounded children. I'm not at all surprised PW loves them and being with them.

I wonder if the awareness of that contrast between families is a factor behind MM's dislike of Catherine, even subconsciously.

I have a particular soft spot for James & his devotion to his dogs.

I think you’re absolutely right. Catherine had the lovely childhood that Meghan would have liked for herself. Two interested parents in a tight knit unit. Siblings that were supportive and brought up with good values. Just another reason to dislike Catherine.

I have often thought this. Catherine has exactly what Meg wants and that includes a warm, loving family.

Forgive the derail, please, but I needed to come up for air and take a break from the reading about the tacky and mendacious Markles, so I took a moment to read Harriet's interview in Hello.

Ignoring the obsequious writing style of the article, I hope Princess Anne had prior knowledge and gave approval - and if she did, it was probably because there's a nod and link to Harriet's charity at the bottom of the page.

https://archive.ph/x7Hsa

A very inoffensive article to promote Harriet becoming patron of a charity. Any mention of RF is positive and bland so unlikely to cause any offence.

JoanChitty · Today 12:04

Meghan rather reminds me of the character Debbie in the film Addams Family Values ! Just her demeanour not her murderous actions!

And wealthy.

AlexandraCarrington · Today 12:06

I don't really care about Harriet doing it.
She's not a working royal - so there is no conflict.

She's very discreet. The only really private and personal thing she talks about is her Christian faith, and that's her business and her choice to talk about.

And she's taken on the patronage of a charity; part of that is promoting and publicising it.

IdaGlossop · Today 12:06

I took a moment to read Harriet's interview in Hello.

I've just read it. It's fairly anodyne. A lot of it was already in the public domain.

'Hello' thy name is anodyne.

Regarding the Hello article, I would think that Princess Anne is pragmatic enough to realise that Mr and Mrs Phillips have to make a living.

I think it must be but also I think MM thought she could play the comparison to her advantage. All the pretending that she was poor, not well fed, calling herself a latch key kid. I think that's why she made up so many lies about different jobs she's had as a teen/young adult, trying to contrast herself with Katherine who received flack for not having had much of a work history.
Seemingly every time she speaks she remembers a different job she had, afaik no one has ever come forward and said they worked with her. She said she worked in a frozen yoghurt shop when she was 13. She was a babysitter. She said she sold doughnuts in a mini doughnut shop and she gave the company name but when this was looked into it turns out this company have never had a shop, they produce doughnuts in a factory but no shop. I think they were also based in a part of the US that she has never lived near. She did calligraphy for weddings between acting auditions and she'd have to hide the ink stains on her hardworking little hands during auditions 🥹
She worked in a bar in Chicago, she nannied for various Irish catholic families, she was a retail assistant and she worked in a restaurant. She was a coat check attendant. She taught gift wrapping classes and she taught book making classes.
She likes to make a lot out of a morsel ("when I worked for the US embassy") to get across this picture of someone so productive, entrepreneurial and hardworking. I wouldn't be surprised if someone of those jobs were outright lies or based 1 afternoon try out.

I’ve always thought this is her main issue with Catherine, I think it eats her up, add to that she has the Princess of Wales title and will be Queen and Catherine’s card was marked even before she married Harry.

I'd say even Catherine having a mother like Carole who I would think knows how the Royal Family operates & was always on hand to give Catherine advice . Even now with everything going on in the rf Catherine is so lucky to have her parents as confidants.

I doubt Doria knew jackshit about the rf & in fairness why would she living in Cali..

Didn't Thomas Sr say she never needed to work when she was at school or university?

These inconsistencies imo were why she didn't want him at the wedding.
