I was originally sympathetic to her situation but she is eroding that sympathy with yet another ever changing narrative. At this point I'm prepared to believe the real story is pretty much anything except what Meghan says.

Completely agree. It cannot be said in any way that the RF was "someone close to them."

It’s plural - ‘people close to them’ - not just one person.

Technically if called out ….who would be closer in proximity than a bodyguard?! , I assume it’s a carefully worded statement with full plausible deniability!

By saying 'people close to them' MM is undoubtedly hoping her words will increase the speculation that some of the RF knew. But she can still claim, wide eyed, that she never said that.
