I am no Meghan fan, for no other reason than she irritates me, but I do feel so sorry for her, her family seems awful.
If I never spoke to my sister again, I would never dream of doing this to her in the press (if she was famous of course 😂). I imagine as long as it gets them a bit of money and attention, they’ll continue to do so.

I don’t hate MM and I’m not in a mob. It’s just morally wrong to ensure that your own children are protected from your father while not ensuring that other children are also protected.

Her family speak about her in the press, the way H&M have repeatedly whined about the RF in the press. They reap what they sow.

they’ve slagged her off from the very beginning, before the wedding. In my opinion I think they are awful. Is that okay?

Exactly. Read threads on here where adult children go NC with their parents - it's death by a thousand cuts. And it's not unusual for more information about parental behavior to come out after the initial rupture.

I don't see why this is all so complicated. MM cut off her father around the time of her wedding due to his dealings with the media and then a year later this letter is shown to her. It's not some great conspiracy.

It may well be that the initial cut off around the wedding was not supposed to have been permanent, she may have harboured hopes that their father/daughter relationship could be salvaged in some form when things settled down and he stopped slagging her off to anyone who would listen. The new information about his (alleged) paedo tendencies would then have completely ruptured any hope. That would explain the so called discrepancies, wouldn't it?

Anyone who suspects anyone (related or not) of a sex crime has a duty to ensure that person is investigated.
If someone sits on the knowledge that someone else poses a risk to others then they are partially responsible for any offences that person carries out.
If they had acted that person could have been stopped.
Meghan should have followed up with the Met to ensure the matter had been passed on to the relevant authorities and was being dealt with appropriately.

No they do not. They have a duty to report and that's it, but the people she would have reported it to already knew. No one has a duty to go round falling the police asking them for updates.Otherwise all the police would be doing would be answering phone calls from random people asking about confidential information about investigations. The police had the information, they did not hand it on to anyone else. The only duty to report was theirs.

I agree but TM was a US citizen. There was no evidence other than a letter from a bitter long estranged ex wife. That wasn't much to go on and didn't form any sort of evidence.

True, but that also then follows that this letter is the only previous ' evidence' available. She may have suspected because of his frequent trips to Thailand but what do you do, expect every daughter of the numerous men who go to Thailand/ the Philippines to ' investigate' their fathers?

I thought he didn’t get on the plane for the wedding, and ended up checking into the hospital with heart issues that turned out to be a panic attack?

I'd expect Meghan, rather than simply cut her father off, to confront him and ask him if this thing his ex-wife said about him is true. It's really bizarre to cut your father off on the basis of something nasty his embittered ex-wife, whom he'd been divorced from for 44 years at the point, insinuated.

I'm also puzzled as to why Meghan said in her statement the other day that she was assured that the allegation in the letter sent to the Met were being investigated when there was quite clearly nothing to investigate.

NoHangoversToday · Today 06:25

I feel sure that if any allegations from an embittered ex-wife came as a complete and utter shock to you, you might confront your beloved father.

But he clearly wasn't that beloved, they had been estranged for some years by then, he had been selling stories and vilifying her in the media for years already and none of us know what her life with him was like. In other words, she might well have had some strong idea about his proclivities.

The letter came in 2019 after she had been estranged from her father for which the reasons have been made clear. Now I was not a fan of the Sussexes tell all to the media either but I'm not sure why the public feel it's up to them to decide whether Meghan should be in contact with her family. Family relationships are complicated and we'll never know the full true story.

The letter was addressed to the Met not Meghan and if she was told that it would be looked into, why then is it a puzzle to say she was assured the police would do something they told her they would? It isnt for us as the public to decide whether it was worth investigating or not. The police received a letter detailing concerns about abuse. Any reasonable person would assume to the police would at least pass it to the relevant authorities.

Did you actually read my post?

Meghan claims the reason she cut off contact with her father is because of a vague, unspecific claim that his bitter ex-wife made 44 years after they had divorced in a diatribe against him. Would you cut off your father for something like that or would you not confront him first and ask him what that's about? I couldn't care less whether Meghan talks to her father or not, but when she is the one rushing to justify to the public why she cut her father off, then I as a member of the public have the right to say that doesn't sound very plausible, especially given how she mixed up the date and this happened many months after her wedding (which itself, according to her, happened three days before it happened) when she already seemed estranged from her father. It seems more the case that she's rushed to retrofit these allegations from her brother to justity her much earlier estrangement from her father and have a dig at the media (while also using them to publicise her version of things).

As for the police passing the letter on to the relevant authorities, there were no relevant authorities to pass it on to because no crime had been alleged in the letter. Meghan herself showed the relevant bit to the tabloids, and all that Roslyn (bitter ex-wife) seems to have written is that Thomas allegedly said to her that he goes to the Philippines and Thailand because 12 year olds are legal there. And this would have been years after their divorce, so what would she really know and we don't even know the context of the conversation. If he really did say it, he could have just said it because he wanted to annoy her (they seemed to have been having a row in that conversation). Meghan implying that there was to be an investigation when there was nothing to investigate makes me even more sceptical towards her.

This letter is going to go down on record alongside other famous letters by Thomas Hardy which altered fates. Since doing Tess in Sixth Form I've always loved the idea of how a missed letter can cause so much drama. Tess, Eustacia and now Meghan 🤷‍♀️
