She had the power to check they had passed on the information to the relevant authorities, at the very least.

You don't know if she did or didn't. And even if she did, her not following up on what the police were meant to have done is not her being "complicit" or "sitting on information" or failing in some sort made up "duty".

The only people who are responsible for passing on the information are the police.

I've worked in social care albeit adult services for 20 years but the principal remain the same in terms of reporting abuse and that it is made crystal clear in all guidance and statutory duties that if you have suspicions it is your duty to REPORT not investigate your concerns to the relevant authorities and absolutely no where is it dictated that once you report you are then duty bound to follow up on this once the relevant authorities are aware.

Meghan's had a lucky escape from her family. Her father's alleged crimes are not hers.
Can't understand why she'd trash the RF and encourage Harry to do so too, so publicly, knowing how vile her own family were though (if the allegations are true). It seems a bit rash, people in glass houses etc.

I don’t know anyone who is under suspicion of being a child sex abuser. If I did, I would report him to the police. If the police did not appear to act I would follow it up with them to check all appropriate actions were being taken. As MM should have done.

And the police don't tend to share details of any investigations or what actions have been taken to estranged family members who don't live in the same country as the accused.

Girl, don't even bother. You're wasting your time using logic with people who are driven only by hate and a mob mentality.

Imagine, someone higher up is talking about 'rehabilitating Meghan's image'. What an ugly implication that Meghan or her PR would manufacture a scandal like this to garner public sympathy.

I don’t hate MM and I’m not in a mob. It’s just morally wrong to ensure that your own children are protected from your father while not ensuring that other children are also protected.

Edited

In this instance the police would have to have shared that they had done nothing at which point MM could have insisted they do their duty.

She may not have been legally bound to follow up with the Met but it would have been the right thing to do.

What?

The police wouldn't have to share anything.

Just to clarify you are aware Meghan is a private citizen with no legal powers to "insist" the police do anything.

Sewingbeedamned · Yesterday 13:15

Heyelpheyelp · Yesterday 13:04

She said she assumed the police were dealing with it which suggests she did not go back to them.

Do you really think that police give details of their investigations out? What would stop someone calling to try and get information to feed to the perpetrator.

Unless you can show a list of specific actions she could undertake, you are just being silly which telling yourself you are superior morally.

Again, you dont know what she did and did not do. Disengaging now as you have become boring.

I guess it is half term and you are bored. But really, you need to up your standard of debate. And if you are at all serious, you should be ashamed.

What is ridiculous about saying that a woman who suspected her father was a danger to children should have tried to ensure he was investigated?

I will never be ashamed of asserting that everyone should do their best to protect innocent children from sex abusers.

Because the suspicions came from the Met police?

Because it should be the police not individuals who should make sure people are investigated or information passed onto the relevant authorities?

I'm disengaging too because as the saying goes, you can't argue with stupid.

Guess I was provoked.
I’m just surprised so many of you think it was fine for Meghan Markle to do nothing about the fact her father was a suspected child abuser.

And does not actually mean anything. Its like that "someone should do something" statement - what the actual fuck does that mean? What exactly do you think people can do?

I think for some people the crime is so horrific that, if there is no neat resolution, they have to find someone to blame. The police have failed (rather than they are constrained in what they can do). The government should be able to step in (into other countries where they have no jurisdiction). Or a family member "should have known", should have immediately believe accusations, should have acted with no actual evidence. And even when family members did everything they could, that they should have done more.

However, I do feel there is such a level of hatred for MM, whether it is racist, misogynist, xenophobic or the forelock-tuggers who want to uphold the RF loyalty at all costs, that she could have single handedly uncovered and brought to justice an international ring of child abusers and would still be accused of not doing enough.

Also really interesting to reflect on how many people posting about what should have been done actually know what the environment is like in those other countries. As a naive 19 year old backpacker, it took me ages to work out that the men I saw with younger local children were probably not all dads who had married a local woman. A walk though some red light districts in the Philippines, Thailand is a horrific experience - or at least should be for anyone with the much mentioned sense of morality on here. But if local police turn a blind eye, what do you think you can do as a foreigner?

Wholeheartedly agree snd best comment so fsr

So what are you doing to protect children today? Are you involved with any charities? Are you investigating people you suspect and alerting the authorities? Going to the press to tell them too?

Are you still demanding answers from the RF who haven't said who knew what, when and who else helped cover it up?

But you knew of people in the public eye. What about them?

And if you did report, how would you know from 'appearances' if the police were taking action or not? And what exactly do you think your follow up call would achieve?
Lastly, how do you know that MM did not do exactly as you suggest?

I think it's amazing as well she just thinks the police share willy nilly with everyone the outcomes of complex child abuse investigations, what the actions are and if these have been undertaken
