So that includes the RF themselves, as the letter was passed to the Royal Protection Squad?

If the Royal family knew then yes. Everyone who knew had a duty to do their best to protect innocent children from harm. Everyone.

I think it's ironic when there was all the furore about Harry's security, people were quite rightly pointing out the Royal family should not be getting involved in matters of police and security. There now seems to be a 180 by some posters in that Meghan should be getting involved in police matters that had nothing to do with her, that she should be able to tell the police what to do and somehow be able to make things happen by being updated on police matters that she was neither a victim of or suspected of doing anything of.

What difference to people honestly think her asking for an update on a police matter would have achieved? Given the concerns were surrounding her estranged father, what sort of update would have she been given? What sort of influence do people think she has in the police?

We don't know what was in the letter? And if it did contain allegations of child abuse by his ex-wife why are people not more hung up on the fact why the ex wife didn't report it to the proper police force or how long she sat on these allegations for?

Yet she is getting all of the blame? She is getting more blame than To Thomas Markle himself!

I’m not aware of anyone blaming MM more than TM.

She must have noticed that her father had not been investigated though. Why did she not question this?

But HOW would she know? She didnt speak to her father and didn't live in the same country. She also doesn't work for the police or any of the agencies that would be investigating him. Police don't normally tend to give updates on investigations to estranged members of the accused who don't even live in the same country.

Have you seen the threads? Not a peep about TM but reams and reams about Meghan should have interfered in a police investigation on the back of a letter that was already in the hands of the police.

Of course there is. You're doing it yourself. Apparently Meghan should have insider knowledge of a police investigation that doesn't even concern her and is about an estranged family member on the oppositie side of the world and should have somehow be able to "do something" about it despite the fact she doesn't work in law enforcement.

Bear in mind TM didn't even live in this country, apparently now Meghan should have influence and knowledge and be questioning police investigations by international police forces of people who don't even live in this country into a family member she doesn't even speak to.

People seem to desperate to pin any of this on Meghan they've lost all rational thinking

But she left her only child, a daughter, to be brought up by that mob. Either she had no choice (which looks bad) or she did ( which is worse).

Look into how she inherited the house she lives in.

No, she didn’t leave her to grow up with them

Nobody is blaming MM more than TM.
People are merely pointing out that she should have ensured he was investigated - as should everyone else who knew about the suspicions.
We all have a responsibility to ensure that innocent children are kept safe from child sex abusers whether or not we work in law enforcement.

She should have followed up with the Met to check what was happening about the allegations.
That would have been the correct course of action.

I don't know, maybe she thought that they hadn't found anything, or hadn't found any evidence ( presumably because her brother had all the evidence in his flat in the Philippines) You don't know that she didn't chase it up though. Everyone is assuming she didn't, because if it turns out she did then what? Should she have jeopardised a police enquiry by telling everyone? Trained as a detective and a criminal lawyer and investigated and prosecuted him herself?

Asking the Metropolitan police what action they were taking about the allegations would not have jeopardised the investigation.

But how she should have ensured she was investigated? Are you suggesting she's somehow in charge of the FBI, Interpol, International police forces etc and can somehow dictate to them what to do? And given she doesn't live in the same country as her father and has no authority over any of these agencies, how would she be able to make sure her father was investigated. And given she's neither a victim or the accused, how much do you think she could influence things.

Here father doesn't live in this country. She was given assurances by the police force here it would be looked into. That's where it ends for MM. If the police have knowledge of a letter with suspicions then it is on the THEM not estranged family members to ensure investigations are carried out.

How are the likes of Piers Morgan, Dan Wooton and Lady C going to reconcile their version of Thomas Markle as a lovely, cuddly old geezer who’s just been stabbed in the front by his viciously ambitious daughter now then? I’m sure they’ll find a way but it’s going to be mildly amusing watching them defend a child rapist just because they’ve been pushing one agenda for nearly 10 years.

I am sure Meghan as a former actress does not have expertise on the workings of police and international law agencies and how they conduct their investigations into estranged family members nor should she have been expected to have been updated or checking up on them.

I am no police expert but I am pretty sure the correct course of action is if the police have been given a letter detailing suspicions they would pass this on the relevant authorities. I'm pretty sure it's not in their protocol they need to be reminded by estranged family members to do their job.

How do you know she didn’t ask then?

You seem determined to make this MM’s fault for not pursuing the case like a cut price Nancy Drew. In my experience if you report something to the police and then contact them later for follow up, you get fobbed off with a generic “it’s being dealt with by the relevant department”.

Maybe save your ire for the disgusting old pervert who perpetrated the crimes, not his daughter who cut all ties with him only to be blamed for “not having her daddy at her wedding” and other bollocks that we’re nobody else’s business.

I have no experience of the police and international law agencies but if someone I knew had been accused of child sex abuse I would have followed it up with police if nothing seemed to be happening. As would anybody with morals.

Adaira45 · Yesterday 09:38

We don't know what was in the letter but the police have admitted it wasn't passed onto the relevant authorities and are conducting an investigation into this.

I think it's so bizarre that people who claim they are "all for the victims" seem to have their anger and focue directed at a member of the public (which Meghan is) not asking for an update on an investigation rather than the actual police doing their job in the first place.

All Meghan would have realistically been told is if the letter had been passed on or not. What difference do people honestly think it would have made.

It is possible to feel ire towards a sex abuser AND towards those who knew but did not act. They are not mutually exclusive.

What difference would it have made? If the US/Mexican police had been informed they could have investigated TM.

But how do you know Meghan did nothing? You seem awful certain she did not follow this up without any evidence otherwise. And given the Met weren't the ones investigating it, what could she have done.

Why not actual angers at the ones who are tasked by law to be dealing with this and failure by the police for not passing letters on. Asking for an update on a case by a police force not even investigating it is going to have next to none influence over anything.

Are you honestly suggesting that Meghan a non-Mexican resident would somehow be able to phone up a police station in Mexico and be given details of police investigation that doesn't even concern her?

NoHangoversToday · Yesterday 09:48

Adaira45 · 25/10/2026 11:10

Exactly. Now I'm not police or legal experts but SURELY if a police force has possession of a letter like this, then there are protocols and statutory obligations to report this to the relevant authorities even if they are abroad.

I'm not quite getting how this is somehow Meghans fault for not "kicking up a fuss" (as said on one thread) or chasing up what was happening. What's the point us having law enforcement agencies in place to protect us if somehow it's the responsibility of individuals to be checking up on them doing their job? Furthermore Meghan has no authority over the police and I highly doubt she would have been told what was going on in an investigation.

People have argued that because Thomas Markle didn't live in the UK, the Met didn't have to do anything but I still believe it should have been reported to the right authorities. In a not too dissimilar case, the man that was charged with the attempt rape and kidnap of Holly Wiiloughby initially came to the attention of an undercover US cop who then alerted the Met police. So they are evident channels that exist for the sharing of this information.

I agree with you. And I'm not a fan of MM but think that she really can't be held to be at fault here.

The paternal side of the family are hideous.
