It’s common sense though.
If someone knows a suspected sex abuser has not been investigated they should follow this up with the police.

If it is now needed that members of the public need to remind the police to do their job, then theres something very wrong with how we protect vulnerable members of society.

If I had concerns about child sex abuse by a perpetrator living in a different country and I was told by a police force that it would be dealt with and passed onto the relevant authorities then I should have trust that the action is taken by the very people who are put in place to do these things.

I fail to see how I would be at fault for somehow not checking up on police forces in a different to country to the one I lived in to see if they were carrying out their jobs.(not even going into how I would be updated anyway)

My "moral duty" would be ensuring that those tasked with the power to take action were aware. Not somehow making sure they were doing their job it being my responsibility rather than theirs.

I agree with you. And I'm not a fan of MM but think that she really can't be held to be at fault here.

The paternal side of the family are hideous.

Isn't all mad? Apparently it's completely ok for the police to have not done their job and not passed on information because apparently now it is the responsibility of members of the public to be phoning up and getting updates on investigations and reminding the police to do their actual job.

I find it insane the level of hatred and outrage at Meghan not asking for an "update" on an investigation on an estranged family member who didn't even live in this country rather than the actual anger being a police not passing on crucial information.

Absolutely bananas.

And again, how do you know that she didn’t? I’m no MM fan but seeing the knots the likes of you get into trying to make it her fault makes me much more sympathetic towards her.

Are you saying that if you had been told your father was involved in stuff like this you would not ask for an update ?

You are not a random member of the public though. You are a person putting themself out there with regard to social media , women's rights etc etc. Your fear would be that this would come out in public ! You would be embarrassed, horrified and you would check from time to time to see what progress had been made. Any normal person would never mind a woman who has created such hostility in the media world. What are the alternatives ? Pay him off ? Appeal to his better side? Maybe but oops there is then the issue of a greedy half brother. That's when it goes tits up.

But how do you know Meghan did nothing? You seem awful certain she did not follow this up without any evidence otherwise. And given the Met weren't the ones investigating it, what could she have done.

Why not actual angers at the ones who are tasked by law to be dealing with this and failure by the police for not passing letters on. Asking for an update on a case by a police force not even investigating it is going to have next to none influence over anything.

How many times? The Met were at fault for not passing the information on, yes. MM is less at fault than the Met but she should have ensured that something was being done about the suspicions. It looks like she did nothing. If she did follow it up that’s a different matter and I’m sure we will soon find out about it.

I'm not sure how i would be given update on an investigation on an estranged family member who lived in a different country anyway. There are laws and protocols around information sharing anyway.

If it was my dad and he lived in a different country, I would have distanced myself from him and I'm not sure how me being updated (and if I was to be anyway) would have any direct influence on things anyway.

We have absolutely no knowledge of any conversations Meghan had with the police over the years. And the Met had possession of letter, why are people not more hung up on what they did with it?

It's quite bizarre people are holding Meghan more responsible for all of this than the law agencies in place. They seem more concerned about her not "chasing the police up" than concerns about child abuse pornograohy being found.

And what would "chasing up the police" actually look like? What difference do people think it would have made to what has happened? Meghan isn't charge of the Met, she can't tell them what to do. And it's highly unlikely she would have been told much other than enquires were still ongoing.

Given that a lot of tips come from disgruntled ex's I would guess that the police get many many tips. It would be interested to know what the decision making is behind what gets followed up and what does not.

And FWIW, it would be interesting to know what links there are between policing authorities and countries which are known to have a sex trade which offers the chance for sex with children. Its pretty blatant in some places and if police here are working with police in countries which turn a blind eye, what are our police supposed to do?

Its also not the job of the police to spread allegations around - they are there to investigate crime. If its not in their jurisdiction, could they even release details?

For saying that someone who is suspected of child abuse should be investigated?
For saying that we all have a responsibility to ensure that this happens when possible?

Stop digging eh? You’ve said in your own post you can’t know if she followed it up or didn’t but you’re still insisting she’s somehow remiss for not communicating her exact actions so you can bleat on about what it “looks like”.

Are you honestly suggesting that Meghan a non-Mexican resident would somehow be able to phone up a police station in Mexico and be given details of police investigation that doesn't even concern her?

No. She could have asked the Metropolitan police who informed her of the suspicions whether they had passed the information on to the relevant authorities.

Yes of course they can. The man charged with the attempt rape and murder of Holly Willoughby first came to the attention of US cop who then alerted UK authorities.

Ex police chiefs and experts are now saying that Met should have alerted the Met. Interestingly those with insider knowledge are actually critical of the Mets handling of it all and not placing the blame on Meghan for allegedly not following up a police investigation funnily enough.

No. She could have asked the Metropolitan police who informed her of the suspicions whether they had passed the information on to the relevant authorities.

And they would have told her yes or no. It would have made absolutely no impact on anything else and would have given her absolutely no information on any further investigations.

Obviously the half sister is going to protect her dad, same as Piers Morgan. Both of them have been vicious to Meghan.
If it turns out Meghan cut off contact because her dad is a peodophile, Sister and PM look like nasty trolls (which they are), so they are going to throw out lots of “What ifs and Buts” to muddy the facts.

She cut her father off way before she received the letter and is now using the alleged abuse of children to muddy the waters when it comes to when she was told, what she knew and what she did about it.

She has said that she kept her own children away from her father to protect them from him. By her own admission she knew he was likely a danger to children, but she did not ensure he was stopped.
She has said she assumed the police were dealing with it, so it very much sounds as though she didn’t follow it up.
Maybe she did follow it up though, yeah. I hope she did.
Nothing is 100 per cent certain at the moment - TM might not be guilty, MM might have been chasing resolution to this matter night and day since 2019, alternatively she might have tried to get it covered up. Who knows?

At the very least it would have reassured her that the matter had not been forgotten/covered up.

With respect, there is a massive difference between cooperation between US and UK authorities than some other countries.

I am not a fan of the police when it comes to how they approach sex crimes but I also think they cant possibly follow up on every tip that comes in - surely it would depend on credibility of the source? I am willing to believe that they did not get it right and etc but some of the comments about what they should have done are bonkers.

And I am certainly not joining with the "lets use this as another stick to beat MM with" brigade - you may find her annoying but the way people talk about her is unhinged.

Adaira45 · Yesterday 10:43

I think it needs pointed out we have no idea or knowledge what conversations Meghan had with the Met.

And what sort of influence or a difference would Meghan being updated have made? She's not one the one carrying out the investigation. She isn't even the one who made the claims in the first place or wrote the letter. These investigations were into a family member she was estranged from and who lived in a seperate country. And given Meghan a) did not make the claims b) was not an alleged victim
c) was not the accused
d) live in the same country as her dad
e) did not speak to her dad
f) have any authority over law enforcement agencies

It is highly unlikely she would have been given any update on the case. She certainly would have had no influence over it There are actual laws and protocols for information sharing and I find it highly unlikely IF THERE WAS an investigation, she would have been told about it or if one was happening.

mysoddenbananabread · Yesterday 10:45

No one is looking to blame Meghan for any wrongdoings of her father. Meghan inserted herself into this and now has become a person of interest with knowledge in this matter. That's the issue now. No one would have known about what she knew or didn't. She shot herself in the foot big time. She's collaborating with the SUN fgs.

Adaira45 · Yesterday 10:45

mysoddenbananabread · Yesterday 10:36

Imagine you were Meghan with all the privilege of that position.

I highly doubt her position (and bear in mind she only had one until 2020) would have still allowed her knowledge into police operations.

NoteyMcNoteface · Yesterday 10:32

Are you aware of what a shitshow the Met is or is that Meghans fault too?

There is precisely nothing that is not Meghan's fault according to some people.
From climate change, to war in Ukraine, to the Traitors not being as good as it was last year, as well as everything else in between, it's all the fault of Meghan.

I'm not particularly a fan. Just fed up of the constant, nonsensical attacks on her character.

Sally3490 · Yesterday 10:58

It goes without saying that if what is being said is true, then TM is the worse person in all of this.

I don't hate Meghan (I've never even posted here before) but the letter issue is off for many reasons.

It's likely of course that there is whole lot we don't know. But as things stand it seems lots of people knew about this 7 years ago and then allowed TM to live in countries where the abuse of children by foreign men is a known issue.
