I don’t hate MM but if she knew her father was a danger to children she should have done everything she could to ensure he was stopped.

You seem completely unable to grasp that Meghan does not work in law enforcement and has no authority or influence over police operations. Especially over estranged family members who live in foreign countries.

You have no evidence of any conversations she had with the Met. You've also not given us any idea of how Meghan should have "stopped" her father apart from asking for an update if a letter had been passed onto the relevant authorities which a) would have been the responsibility of the Met and b) would have not told her what the outcome of any investigation.

I guess that’s the problem when it comes to someone with a history of telling lies and being a fantasist. It all comes back to bight you on the bum one day.

Why dont you spell out exactly what she should have done, and explain how you know for sure she did not take any action?

Because what you are saying is ridiculous. And offensive to anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves related to someone who has committed a sex crime.

Anyone who suspects anyone (related or not) of a sex crime has a duty to ensure that person is investigated.
If someone sits on the knowledge that someone else poses a risk to others then they are partially responsible for any offences that person carries out.
If they had acted that person could have been stopped.
Meghan should have followed up with the Met to ensure the matter had been passed on to the relevant authorities and was being dealt with appropriately.

Could you refer to the legislation please or police protocol that states that that is the duty of the public to ensure that a person is investigated? Or in fact any of the legislation relating to your claims?

I was well aware of the duty to report if you had suspicions, certainly it's been in all the child protection training I've done. But there must be some brand new legislation that also makes it the duty of the public to ensure that person is investigated. I always thought that was the policies duty. Apparently not!

She must have noticed that her father had not been investigated though. Why did she not question this?

She had already distanced herself prior to the letter, how would she notice if he was being investigated of she is nof around him at all. Is she now menstrual to be a mind reader. 🤔

Why is it on her to notice? Why not the sister and brother who were by his side in contact with him..oh no its down to meghan of course its all her fault

Wow, you must be busy @Heyelpheyelp
Out of interest, what did you do about Jeffrey Epstein? Trump? AMW? Saville?
All were/are suspected long before anything was done by the authorities even when they did act.

As I thought, you are just being ridiculous now. She was informed by the police, so she knew that they knew.

What follow up do you imagine she could have done? Phone calls to them? How do you know she did not do this? Going to the papers? Imagine how that would have been received by the haters.

You can keep repeating "moral duty" and statements about investigation but it is clear you are just wanting to put the boot in to a woman in a horrendous situation.

I am fortunate enough not to have been in this position, but I have been around other people who found out a relative committed a horrendous crime. I am not talking about people who colluded or covered up. But innocent people who had no idea that their relative was doing what they did. Shame on you for wanting to blame the relatives in this situation, rather than support them.

Yes it is clear that @Heyelpheyelp has nothing to really offer the debate.

I am more incensed at the blame for secondary victims of these crimes - having spent a lifetime working with people who have been abused, I have had a front row seat to see how wider family members are treated. And how, even when their behaviour has been exemplary, there is always some idiot wanting to blame them.

Absolutely. It tears families apart. Not even that, all this talk of made up "duty" people are meant to have have just detracts and places less responsibility of those who have the ACTUAL duty to investigate and act and less responsibility on the actual perpetrators

Are you saying that if you had been told your father was involved in stuff like this you would not ask for an update ?

I would leave it in the hands of the police, to pass on through interpol or relevant forces and that would be it. Not my monkeys not my circus. And bearing in mind you wouldn´t be a person with interest in the case as not the victim you would be told fuck all. Good luck phoning Mexico to get updates into the "investigation".

Spaniels4Eva · Yesterday 12:49

I don't get the time frame, why now? Something just doesn't add up and if this man is innocent, he's frail and elderly.

There is also nothing that will "rehabilitate" Meghan back into public life here in the UK so if this story is PR, it's tawdry and grubby.

If Meghan had not known or suspected that her father was a child sex abuser then she would not be to blame in any way, shape or form.
Blaming people for the actions of their relatives is indeed unfair, unless they are complicit.

I am not blaming people who didn’t know, just those who suspected then sat on the information.

But she isn't complicit. She was told by the Met about the allegations. What sort of powers do you think Meghan has over the police and other agencies in this area?

The Met shoulders the most responsibility for not passing on the information, but anyone else who knew about the suspicions and did not act is also partially responsible.

I'm not quite sure you understand anything. She didn't sit on the information. She was made aware of a letter by the MET POLICE.

Are you saying she should have gone back to the very same police force to let them know about a letter that they already had in her possession and had shown her in the first place?

She had the power to check they had passed on the information to the relevant authorities, at the very least.

redboxer321 · Yesterday 12:55

Still waiting to hear what you did/do about the numerous other men that people long suspected @Heyelpheyelp
Or are you complicit in those cases too?

To be fair, I think everyone's suspicions should have at least been raised when the Toms moved to the Philippines. But I don't think the police act on 'feelings'.

No I am saying she should have followed up as to what they were doing about it.

Girl, don't even bother. You're wasting your time using logic with people who are driven only by hate and a mob mentality.

Imagine, someone higher up is talking about 'rehabilitating Meghan's image'. What an ugly implication that Meghan or her PR would manufacture a scandal like this to garner public sympathy.

And does not actually mean anything. Its like that "someone should do something" statement - what the actual fuck does that mean? What exactly do you think people can do?

I think for some people the crime is so horrific that, if there is no neat resolution, they have to find someone to blame. The police have failed (rather than they are constrained in what they can do). The government should be able to step in (into other countries where they have no jurisdiction). Or a family member "should have known", should have immediately believe accusations, should have acted with no actual evidence. And even when family members did everything they could, that they should have done more.

However, I do feel there is such a level of hatred for MM, whether it is racist, misogynist, xenophobic or the forelock-tuggers who want to uphold the RF loyalty at all costs, that she could have single handedly uncovered and brought to justice an international ring of child abusers and would still be accused of not doing enough.

Also really interesting to reflect on how many people posting about what should have been done actually know what the environment is like in those other countries. As a naive 19 year old backpacker, it took me ages to work out that the men I saw with younger local children were probably not all dads who had married a local woman. A walk though some red light districts in the Philippines, Thailand is a horrific experience - or at least should be for anyone with the much mentioned sense of morality on here. But if local police turn a blind eye, what do you think you can do as a foreigner?

I don’t know anyone who is under suspicion of being a child sex abuser. If I did, I would report him to the police. If the police did not appear to act I would follow it up with them to check all appropriate actions were being taken. As MM should have done.
