William on Graham Norton

Poor Harry. As if his week hasn’t been bad enough he has now had to watch his brother appearing on the best talk show , holding his own, looking comfortable and relaxed, keeping up with the banter, making half decent jokes, telling stories against himself with humour.

Makes Harry’s attempt at tv chatting seem even more uncomfortable.

“Call me William” versus “I am a prince.”

Yes, and he was solely invited based not on any achievement but on which battles his ancestors won over a thousand years ago. It was good PR and he came across relatively well; still doesn't change how wrong it is that he was driven home in taxpayer funded police motorcade (sure those officers could be better put to use doing other things) and slept in a taxpayer funded palace and had his bed made by.....taxpayer funded servants.

Yawn

He's bloody brilliant! Him and Catherine are a breath of fresh air and I believe they are both really kind and genuine people

But they aren't making the decision to not charge our public services, particularly the NHS (which Katherine tells us she loves) rent for being on land they've grabbed and 'inherited'. Will they stop charging the RNLI for launching, like the King does, because they own the coastline, when they take over? We've allowed these people to go from millionaires to billionaires and yes, they do have personal wealth for being born, it doesn't all belong to the 'crown'. W&K sat off for years doing nothing. William yawns when he's meeting people, his facial expressions are terrible. There's been a lack of royals appearing up north and they ignore football games that they should be at. Katherine is always available and well enough for tennis, though. Now it looks like William can do what he wants. There's more celebrities at the football matches he misses than who will take notice of last night. Their visit to Jamaica was a disaster. Standing on the back of a Land rover mimicking the bad old days. I don't see how they are a breath of fresh air, at all.

What a shame, William deserves to be spoken about without it starting off as some snark to Harry.

Anyone would think they are conjoined twins the way its impossible on this board to talk about either one of them without a snark od comparison being mentioned.

It's very strange isn't it? This stance of pitting one against the other.

Catherine, with a C.

Well they have kind of pitted themselves against each other surely? People are bound to speculate about them and compare their public appearances.

We need to see value for money and we sure don’t get that from the likes of Will and Kate. It’s absurd that older royals like Anne are still having to work so hard to cover for them, especially William.

Charlenedickens · Yesterday 08:39

I think he came across very well, I think both him and Catherine do take their positions seriously and wish to do a good job, and I think this interview made William in some way more accessible, as really all he does is events we just see pictures of,no real interaction, brief interviews,

they should both do more things like this,

If William had bombed last night would that mean anything?

Yes. It’s having happened would make it an event, so meaning would have been attached to it, relevant or otherwise.

IdleGossip · Yesterday 08:40

He was there to talk about Earthshot which IS an achievement. Yes he was only able to set up Earthshot because he is who he is, but it is still an achievement.

The predicament Harry is in is entirely of his own making. He could have done it all privately, spoken with his father and his brother, sought therapy for his issues, his mums death etc. Meghan could have been better counselled on the Royal Family protocols before committing her self to entering the "firm".
Instead he decided to publicly humiliate his family in the worst possible way.
He now talks of "reconciliation" but is still publicly banging on about it all. "Some people dont want to reconcile", he says.
Well who can bloody blame them after the stuff he came out with?
He needs to think long and hard and remember the old saying " least said, soonest mended"

my family all agreed that William came across very well.

Thanks fuck! I was worried for a minute there but now I can relax.

You can’t say that here! 😆

You never know - maybe Catherine is here on mumsnet. I know a few celebrities are

She is and has been for a long time.

These costs will still apply when we return to being a republic, but at least we’ll have a choice in the individual concerned.

Who would you like to see as head of a republic?

BermudaRhombus · Yesterday 08:46

FckThisShit · Yesterday 08:45

She is and has been for a long time.

That makes sense - we knew she must be spending her time doing something.

NOTANUM · Yesterday 08:47

He came across normal and accessible. That’s a huge win on Graham Norton.

Did anyone think that GN curtesied at the start?! Surely a man bows?

raymundo · Yesterday 08:47

Rocknrollstar · Yesterday 07:04

He was publicising his Earthshot awards for environmental change. AND he was terrific. Very natural. For example, when asked he could name his favourite movies. And he laughed and joked with the celebs whom he already knew.

Wow, he really is just you or me!

I don’t need to compare them they are individuals in their own right. Mature people shouldn't be stuck in playground mentality where its team this or that or comparing and competing against each other unless you are playing a sport and then it's all just for fun 😁

andyburnhamhere · Yesterday 08:50

Maisymouse2 · Yesterday 05:05

Why would celebrities be on this listening to such shite.🤣

Edited

Busy people in general don't spend time chatting to random strangers on an internet forum. Indeed my family and friends think it strange that I do and a sign that I am wasting my time. I think they're right !

I don't want a republic, but let's consider those countries that are and elect a head of state. President Trump, the future possible President Le Pen, as examples.

This is always trotted out - “ooh you could get a President Trump!” Well we could get a prime minister Trump. And if we do get a rubbish president, it’s for a limited fixed term. If we’d got a King Andrew (reasonable risk at one point given Charles’ love of polo and other risky sports before marriage) we’d be stuck with him for the rest of his life.

The UK public would be able to choose who we wanted as president. And then choose again if we didn’t like what we picked. Perfectly acceptable risk compared to “you could get a racist/sexist/abusive/lazy monarch and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
