Angela Levin (who I really can't listen to) is on JK. One of the Nottingham charities they are now visiting, HAM dumped them years ago and ghosted them when they tried to reach out.

I hope all the media cover this and ignore the Nottingham performance entirely.

Unlikely, unfortunately, as HAM inspire more clicks so that M's outfit changes can be torn apart and H's bald pate viewed from above! Those of us who see them as some sidelined soap opera will enjoy it (count me in) but the serious stuff will be going on elsewhere. Many of us can remember that tragedy and I still get a lump in my throat at the word Aberfan 😢
Edited to add I'm muddling up my dates here, apologies

On this point you are wildly incorrect. You can never tell by looking. You can’t tell by behaviour, the words people say, your perception. Sometimes the people who take their own life are the people you’d never suspect. They hide it well. I wouldn’t normally pick out a post this way but, as a Suicide First Aider, I feel obliged to call out this as it’s a dangerous train of thought.

I would add to this. Yes, you can never tell.

I also find, from my own many experiences, that people don’t tend to announce their intention to all and sundry. Those who go on to successfully do what they set out to do have usually shocked those they have left behind. Again, in my experience only, those who shout the loudest about their intention do not carry out their threat. There have been very few exceptions.

Again, it is only my experience and not a rule.

I’m not saying that M has never had these thoughts. She may well have done.

Sadly, the problem I have with their assertions is that they have lied previously for attention, for sympathy and to rally support. As such, one would be forgiven for wondering if this particular claim is not in the same vein.

I don’t believe that H didn’t know where to go for help or that they could not approach the RF team for help/were dismissed if they did so.

I just don’t.

There was a discussion on the previous thread about Harry not being trained for anything. An astonishing narrative about such a wealthy man who had millions at his disposal for retraining.

He could have retrained as a civilian rescue pilot and worked part time for the Air Ambulance or perhaps the coastguard. But it would have meant being totally clean of drink and drugs.

He was offered several influential roles - Commonwealth/Prince's Trust etc but turned them down.

He was offered an estate to run in Herefordshire - but turned it down. But it's something he could have trained for - like William took an executive agricultural management course at Cambridge University.

He seems unable to stick to anything - he jumps from thing to thing without really learning his role. A decade ago he "loved" Africa (although it's unclear what he meant by that) - yet after the disastrous South Africa tour he rarely seemed to visit - not even his own charities there - although he he flew around the world playing polo with the Uber-wealthy under the guise of "fundraising".

He seems very attracted celebrity status and to the glitter and tinsel of Hollywood and A-listers, but again failed to learn his craft. After the series cashing in on his family he had few realistic ideas pitching shows about interviewing Putin and Trump about why they are psychopaths!

I just don't believe a single word either of them say. Regarding MH, generally it make those how have suffered poor MH more understanding and empathic. This pair have no concern for others mental wellbeing, particularly family members. Also telling is HAM's friendship with Chrissy Tegan who is a well known bully and urged a very vulnerable girl to top herself.

Starryfifty · Yesterday 13:21

Regarding H's training or lack of, he seems in his element in Cali. Prancing around to galas etc

swedishrhapsody · Yesterday 13:22

I would imagine the last sentence might be the big sticking point.

There would be no swerving the D&A tests like he allegedly did previously.

The bottom line for me is about the focus of attention. When a Senior Working royal visits a project or a place the focus is on the charity or the cause. They do not claim to be experts but focus attention on experts that may not have been given if the Royal hadn't turned up. It is not about them, it's about the purpose of their visit.

In contrast Harry always references himself and his life when he speaks. Meghan stood in South Africa, on an official in a place of great poverty and complained that no one had asked if she was ok. With the Sussexes attention is always focused on them not the charity. When promoting Cookie Queens Meghan talked about selling cookies when the point of the film was the exploitation of the girl scouts. Harry takes £100,00 to be part of a Masterclass on grief and talks about himself and his experience, calling himself a student of grief. Rather than give actual practical advice any yet bereavement journey.

So whilst I think selling your family stories for cash is tacky and accusing people of being racist or not hugging without evidence is pathetic, for me it comes down to the fact that they want to be seen as royals whilst not behaving as royals. The late Queen was right when she said you can't be half in half out and they prove it every day.

Agree @MrsLeonFarrell, particularly with this
When a Senior Working royal visits a project or a place the focus is on the charity or the cause. They do not claim to be experts but focus attention on experts that may not have been given if the Royal hadn't turned up.

We sometimes talk about how the monarchy is changing, and how things will be done differently in an age where there are fewer RF members, and fewer people interested in meeting those RF members opening community centres, etc.

One thing I have found very interesting is how the PPoW use their social media accounts to give a voice to others. Often their Instagram page after a visit will have a clip of someone from the charity or community group speaking about their cause.

TheOvertGardener · Yesterday 13:27

If I had to choose three recent examples demonstrating why they are not trustworthy:

Charlotte Griffiths exposed their manipulation of the luncheon between their staff and KC reps. They leaked the place and time of the meeting then blamed the leak on palace staff after photos were published.

Meghan sent a known internet troll an As Ever gift basket. He posted on SM about the gift.

The whirlwind rounds of leaks about their summer visit, using the same tactic they attempted when trying to force the Queen’s hand with respect to their working status. Obviously leaking details to the public in an attempt to drive their desired outcome. Failed miserably both times.

The Africa tour is what makes it all so frustrating. They were doing brilliantly. Despite all the criticism they’d faced beforehand, they were generating fantastic headlines and winning people over. They had the potential to be a real asset to the Royal Family. And then they completely sabotaged themselves. Between the lawsuits and Meghan’s “not many people asked if I was okay” victimhood narrative, they turned what should have been a triumph into a farce.

They could have been great. They had the opportunity to carve out a genuinely valuable role within the Royal Family, but they threw it all away through self centred entitlement and a complete lack of perspective. It’s such a waste of what could have been.

Starryfifty · Yesterday 13:51

They should find a lane and stick to it but they never do. Even with parenting, they seek to have got bored so quickly ffs 😂. He's now bleating about what a struggle it is.

One thing is quite evident and I think Harry may now realise it, there is just absolutely no way back as working royals

Handbagsandoldcurtains · Yesterday 13:56

Do they really 'make their living' out of selling stories about the Royal Family?

Well, seeing as they are back in Blighty, it would seem it hasn’t been the most successful strategy.

I completely agree, they could have been real assets. But they didn’t want to be team players and thought their way was better.

It’s like look at what you could have won, but with palaces, not speedboats.

And having lunch with Ellen Degenerate is also self explanatory, birds of a feather flock together ..

@choux I hope so too but I'm not holding my breath because clicks = cash. Aberfan is a serious story of national importance so I expect they'll cover both. Mr Andreae, are you here? If so, please help us understand why the Royal Rota is devoting so much time to covering two private citizens. By implication, it undermines the intent of the Lord Chamberlain's letter.

I think William is going too , not sure about Catherine .

If the RF have a modicum of sense (and most of the time they have) Catherine should definitely go too.
The following may sound trite but it’s time to fight fire with fire…… so C preferably with a new hairstyle and take George too - he can miss a day at Eton for this important visit.
HaM took the gloves off years ago and the RF have to fight back. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of coverage and people will turn out in Nottingham (if just for a look). It won’t mean they are popular but HaM will be convinced they are.

I don’t think the RF need to play the Sussexes silly games. If the Princess of Wales isn’t due to go, why would all the plans be changed because of an irrelevant couple?

Ignoring them has worked well enough up till now. As for the 'new hairstyle' suggestion for Catherine, all I can say is this is not a catfight for public delectation. Remembering Aberfan is a serious public engagement of a historic tragedy.

A placemarking 🍒 this time.

<wails>I haven't even finished reading the last thread and I have a day full of appointments!!!

I sure wish HaM would quit doing stupid shit so I could keep on top of threads!

@jeffgoldblum Thanks for the new thread! Here's some 🍒🍒 for you!

Starryfifty · Yesterday 14:34

Fighting them is continuing to show up and thrive. HAM are so vicious and nasty that they want W&C to fail. They are not. In fact, their popularity is soaring. That's their fighting fire with fire

Taking PG, to Aberfan would be a masterstroke. The future PoW on his first visit to Wales to a town strongly associated with QEII. Four generations of Windors. I did see a non-official suggestion that Catherine is now going.

HaM would be in a difficult position. They've already talked about a family approach to their charity and humanitarian work. But they may consider Nottingham too modest a venue to debut A&L. How about getting one over on the official family with a children's concert in the 02 Arena hosted by A&L and live-streamed to venues across the Commonwealth. Jeff B could fund it.

It will be interesting to see the difference in coverage between Wales and Nottingham - I predict Nottingham and so the RF certainly DO need to play them at their own game.
HaM could have been dealt with earlier ie remove titles and line of succession - this isn’t impossible to do, instead it’s been left too long and now they’re back and will be everywhere.

A 'new hairstyle' is a bad idea after Nadine Dorries' 'the PoW needs a makeover' story in the DM.

For me, I think the enduring fascination with them is that they had so much, and they have systematically trashed it and continue to do so. If someone places two envelopes in front of them, marked Wrong Decision and Right Decision, they will fall over themselves in their haste to open the Wrong Decision one.

It reminds me of Prince Philip saying after one of his and QE2's early tours, "They didn't come to see my wife; they came to see The Queen". That's the fundamental thing that HaM got (and still get) wrong - the initial interest in and affection for them was for their roles, not themselves. It's all rather Jungian.

There are risks for HaM tomorrow - booing and few people showing up.
