It's the lies that are constantly revealed as inaccuracies, the self pity & self entitlement.
On a very basic level Harry said only last year that he could never see himself & his family living in the UK yet here they are living in the UK.

It's the fact they make their living out of selling stories about the Royal Family.. now Diana became the Royal Family has cut them off they have no new information

"It's the fact they make their living out of selling stories about the Royal Family"

Is this true?

I thought he was a charity exec and podcast/media producer, and she was a presenter/producer seller of...whatever waitrosey home/self-care tat she sells.

Do they really 'make their living' out of selling stories about the Royal Family?

I'm sorry, I don't understand your comment. I do not believe I did paint everyone here with a broad brush. I expressed agreement with people who argue very differing opinions and expressed conflict in my thoughts due to that. I am sorry if you felt that I was condemning anyone, it was not intentional. Except for those minority of comments directly about the children. That I do feel is wrong.

I agree with you about what parts feel out of line.

“But I also think they are distasteful and bulling and am a little ashamed of myself for following along for 50 threads.”

But disagree about this bit. I didn’t follow along for 50 threads though.

I take it you haven't read Spare so or the Netflix documentary? It might be a good place to start! Got paid very handsomely for both! And all the ad hoc interviews over the years...

A new visitor to MN and happened to come across the RF board, probably.

As so many do.

Because I see these threads pop up so frequently, and I don't understand why there is such a high level of invective, engagement and investment in two people who seem far less deserving of it than many others.

Feel free to start your own threads on those people you feel more deserving of it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm aware of the irony here, given I'm posting on this thread, but... ain't nobody got time for that!

Major Charitable Contributions & Organizations
BBC Children in Need (£1.1 million / ~$1.49 million): Donated a multi-million-pound sum to support grassroots youth organizations in Nottingham (such as the Community Recording Studio and Epic Partners) combating youth violence and knife crime.
..................................................................................................................

Although Harry announced the donation to Children In Need as a "personal" donation - we now know that the money didn't come from him personally.

When she died - Harry inherited the Glen Beg Foundation (one of Diana's smaller charities founded in 1981). It had given out small grants to community groups. He took the decision to close down the Glen Beg Foundation and transferred all of its capital to Children in Need.

So the money didn't come from him personally - despite the donation being characterised that way in the press release,

H does nothing much and Meghan’s business is more of a side hustle except there’s no main event to be on the side of.

Yes, agree with @OrdinaryGingerBloke.

There are many reasons to question the Sussexes' narrative, particularly because of their documented lies, but it is not possible to tell from the outside what someone is going through.

It is also one of the reasons I have lost respect for Harry in particular. As someone with a history of knowledge around mental health, including setting up a support organisation long before he was married (Heads Together), he has been very inconsistent in his public comments since then: saying that he didn't know how to get help for his wife, was 'ashamed' to do so, etc.
Public figures need to take care that their pronouncements do not cause harm for other people.

Yes - his narrative that he was "ashamed" to seek help for his wife was astonishing from the Patron of a MH charity that's mission was to "change the conversation" and "reduce stigma" of MH problems.

Lots of lies debunked here!! It's a good read. @Komints have a read & wonder again why they are so so deeply unpopular

Not my decision of course, but I really wouldn't bother KingsandQueenz

To my mind at least, when someone asks whether it's true that H&M have sold family stories for money, it rather gives the game away

You are so right but I couldn't resist posting that article! I'd forgotten about some of those lies myself, it's actually astonishing what they thought they'd get away with!

Not just that he was ashamed, but the implication that somehow that was the fault of the institution, his family and the British people.

Generous with his blame of others, miserly with self-reflection and accountability.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 12:29

Yes, @Lunde, and quite a lot of fuss was made over that claim at the time by those determined to clutch whatever credit came Harry's way

Shame it turned out to be just another lie, but hardly surprising

swedishrhapsody · Yesterday 12:29

They have the means to be in the background as private figures. Quietly supporting charities is a thing and is easily manageable for them. And yet…

They push themselves front and centre because publicity is like oxygen to them and to do anything quietly is not an option.

They have shown themselves to be liars on many subjects. As such, their actions and words are scrutinised.

They feed on their wrongdoings, they exist on the scraps of their lies, they nurture any perceived slights and gorge upon it.

They are at pains to tell us how happy they are and yet spend an age regaling their misery to those who no longer care. And worse, they actively seek to make others miserable.

Nothing is their doing. Most of us will put our hands up to admit the things we get wrong. We hold ourselves accountable. They do not.

This is why they are talked about. And yes, talked about at length because they do not stop with their self serving, aggrandising approach to life.

They hurt people and they lie. They will not ever be thought of as charitable.

Hurting people (and lying in order to do so)is as far from charitable as you can get.

Whether they "make a living" now out of selling stories about the RF , yes that hasn't happened for a while. However , I think it is indubitably the case that after H&M stepped away from being members of the WRF , their big earnings were Netflix ( the docuseries ) and Spare. So those ( and no-one knows the actual amount ) together with H's inheritances would make a very nice sum , wisely invested, to live off. Their other media productions eg the Polo documentary , The Spirit of Invictus haven't touched the sides in terms of viewing figures. This is a matter of record. Cookie Queens did dreadfully at the box office. They parted with Spotify with an exec calling them "grifters" with no credible ideas ( my paraphrase) M has produced nothing for Lemonada after Confessions of a Female Founder.

H has received payments for speeches about grief inter alia , which often involves him talking about his mother.

Yes he's a patron of some charities , more or less successfully. Yes M has a business selling spreads and teas etc . Accurate figures as to how much that is earning aren't available. Are these the things paying for their day to day lives at the moment? Who knows? I would argue their big money has come from tattling about the RF , whether true or not and if they were wise they would have invested that sensibly to give themselves an income.

But hands up - I am not their accountant , nor their financial advisor.

William is going for the commemoration of the Aberfan disaster later in October, I think.

Likely been answered already but it is said that KC, QC, and PoW will all be in Aberfan on October 21, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan tragic disaster.

The King and Queen are visiting Wales for the opening of the Senedd on Thursday.

I'm hoping there is decent coverage of that, and the reporters aren't sidetracked by what the Sussexes are doing.

I hope all the media cover this and ignore the Nottingham performance entirely.

The reason they are not selling stories about the Royal Family now is because they have nothing new to peddle!
They've been cut off so have no new tabloid fodder which is why they have turned to selling stories about Diana & grief...

Malala did not look particularly comfortable in the Claridges photos with M. I wonder why she accepted - perhaps she thought they were meeting in a private room there rather than the public dining area and only realised on arrival that was not the case. Also the amount that would have been donated to her fund from As Ever is calculated to be pretty small. There are probably other donors who give a lot more financially without taking up so much of Malala’s time and bringing her so much questionable publicity.

I imagine her time with M has been a big learning experience for her.

Hopefully that will be the case but on the BBC East Midlands last night they mentioned the Sussexes visit to Nottingham, so I’m guessing both will be covered unfortunately 🙄

MrsLeonFarrell · Yesterday 12:54

The bottom line for me is about the focus of attention. When a Senior Working royal visits a project or a place the focus is on the charity or the cause. They do not claim to be experts but focus attention on experts that may not have been given if the Royal hadn't turned up. It is not about them, it's about the purpose of their visit.

In contrast Harry always references himself and his life when he speaks. Meghan stood in South Africa, on an official in a place of great poverty and complained that no one had asked if she was ok. With the Sussexes attention is always focused on them not the charity. When promoting Cookie Queens Meghan talked about selling cookies when the point of the film was the exploitation of the girl scouts. Harry takes £100,00 to be part of a Masterclass on grief and talks about himself and his experience, calling himself a student of grief. Rather than give actual practical advice any yet bereavement journey.

So whilst I think selling your family stories for cash is tacky and accusing people of being racist or not hugging without evidence is pathetic, for me it comes down to the fact that they want to be seen as royals whilst not behaving as royals. The late Queen was right when she said you can't be half in half out and they prove it every day.

Honestly this man child

He’s got his wig on for this interview

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 12:59

Re the walkabout, there were rumours that the Sussexes had been planning their own walkabout, with cameras (possibly Netflix), and that the walkabout with all four of them was done to prevent that

From the last thread, but though I totally appreciate it's a rumour, @bluegreygreen, I hadn't heard this one - and at this point nothing would surprise me

I do sometimes wonder if Harry ever listens to her and thinks 💡...Hang on a moment...I don't remember that

Clearly he does, @Shamedbysiri; we only had to look at his expression sitting in the chicken coop, when she told her story of the three-days-before wedding, or his clumsy contradiction on Oprah over the story about the RF's racism towards Archie.
Only too easy to see why he was only allowed on for the last part of the interview ...
