It's not "minor stuff".

Not "minor stuff" at all when the last, current and future HoS are the targets of corrosive innuendos, slurs and downright lies. Not to mention the SS rumour mill.

(Cue the "what lies have they told" pigeon-cooing.)

It will be interesting to see the difference in coverage between Wales and Nottingham - I predict Nottingham and so the RF certainly DO need to play them at their own game.
HaM could have been dealt with earlier ie remove titles and line of succession - this isn’t impossible to do, instead it’s been left too long and now they’re back and will be everywhere.

No - the RF will ignore them. The RF and the Sussexes are on different paths, have different aims/purposes and roles and never the twain shall meet.

Their styles are totally different too. Why would the RF have any interest in some kind of competition with the Sussexes? I just don't get it.

The RF will just do business as usual. They're fulfilling official duties, not seeking publicity for its own sake. Their visits/events have worth even if there's no publicity at all - they have intrinsic value. HAM's events are very much aimed at splashing their names and improving their personal image.

Yes, but why would they care about 'coverage'? Katie Price also gets lots of 'coverage'.

It's not a competition. If it were, there would be only one winner, and that's not the Sussexes.

It's not the coverage per se thats the issue. Most of it is negative. The issue is the amount of noise the Sussexes are making to gain the coverage, the appearance of them setting up a rival court and the Windsors taking no action against them since the Lord Chamberlain's letter.

The Aberfan 60th anniversary is 21st October which will be in the middle of the childen's half term. Prince William will attend, (with The King and Queen).
I imagine Catherine will be doing half term things with the children.
Even if it wasn't half term, no way should a royal child, George or any of the others, be pulled from school to be put on show at a royal visit. Their childhood and schooling are non-negotiable.

I remember the Aberfan disaster, and my school had a collection, and gathered lots of toys to gift. Am I alone in remembering toy collections? Considering that the majority of the victims were children, and practically all the village children were wiped out it seems very odd in hindsight that people were busy donating toys.🤔 I hope they got sent to some other charity or children's hospitals or something.

So you're saying admitting suicidal thoughts is worthy of ignoring all the humanitarian and charitable work they've done?

And because you don't like them, anything they claim that caused/causes them distress has to be a lie?

Pretty much all of this is conjecture, and it's all personal/family stuff right? They're not actively harming or demeaning anyone outside of the family politics.

Out of interest, if a friend told you they'd had suicidal thoughts or attempts, even if you thought that friend was occasionally self-centred or had a rocky relationship with a family member, would you say they were lying?

You don't get it, do you?

"They're not actively harming or demeaning anyone outside of the family politics."

The pater familias is the HoS of the UK and Head of the Commonwealth. So calling him a racist is a lot more than "family politics".

Oh, and H - that well-known racist-mouth - is not doing a documentary on racism in Britain in conjunction with a woman who ascribed racism to firefighters. I'm not his family, but I bet he gets to call all the white folk in Britain racists.

What 'action' do you expect them to take? Anyone can visit a charity or do 'engagements'. Nobody with any knowledge thinks this is in any way a 'rival court'.

The Sussexes pose no threat to the monarchy so it would be a mistake to dignify them with the attention they crave.

A new visitor to MN and happened to come across the RF board, probably.

Whilst chopping carrots no doubt.

Didn't it take her ages to get the paperwork done to set up 'As Ever'? I agree that no way is she going to go through all the bureaucracy of getting permission to sell her white label 'food' outside the United States.

Honestly, I'm surprised she hasn't already wound up 'As Ever'. She can't be making much, if any, money from it and I doubt she has any great passion for selling relabelled fruit spread and flower sprinkles. We know she gets tired of projects when they don't produce instant results, so I'd expected her to have already dumped 'As Ever' by now.

The jams themselves are only 12 dollars which would retail around 9 quid, Daylesfords jams are around 5 pound so hers would be nearly double..
I really can't see it working, there isn't a gap in the market here for her

HaM are sitting pretty, they and their children enjoying titles they have courtesy of an institution they have extensively and publicly rubbished, and carrying out engagements using the royal model. Meanwhile, they are holding out for funding for their security from a state whose institutions (civil service, juiciary) they have publicly trashed. Their accommodation is free. It's a judgement call for the palace, which they have to make in a way that helps preserve the monarchy.

Of course HaM can visit any charity they choose as private citizens - but without titles.

Typo

I so hope you’re right about the score.
Btw yes, it was reported that the Queen was livid at the time……Diana 1 - QE 0 that day, but then I’ve always been a Diana fan.

I've always thought that was very unreasonable of the Queen. It was not Diana's fault; it was the media reports on her. And at that early stage she wasn't the mistress of media manipulation she became.

Accusing BP staff of leaking when it was really Harry and Meghan themselves could have resulted in a loss of livelihood.

Rewarding a known bully so publicly encourages all of the Sussex Squad bullies. Ask the gentlemen selling the advent calendar.

They have created their own media maelstrom. Unless one thinks they are incredibly daft there is no need to defend them from the outcomes.

So what though? How does any of the above pose a threat to the monarchy?

And I'm not sure I'd say they're 'sitting pretty'. Sure, by most standards they're incredibly privileged, but that's how it is when you're the son of the King. But clearly they are desperate for status and their post royal life hasn't panned out as they'd expected, otherwise they wouldn't be back in 'salty isle'.

As long as they don't use HRH they're free to use their titles, as other non working members of the family do.

On the last thread it was discussed whether Meghan’s products would be produced here or shipped from the US.

Neither, in my opinion.

I read something saying that due to food regulations her consumable products won’t be on sale here, only the candles and other tat like the bookmarks.

I suspect nothing more is going to be produced at all, she’s got an abundance of stock she needs to shift. If I had to guess she’ll have a shipment sent over of whatever she can sell here, try to get some of it into places like Daylesford or Soho Farmhouse a bit like she did with the Godmothers bookshop pop up, and sell online, contracting a local fulfilment house to manage orders.

It’s all smoke and mirrors to make it look like her business isn’t failing when in reality this is just a desperate attempt to shift stock she can’t sell in the US. No doubt she’ll get some sales - she does have some fans after all, though I can never understand why.

Yes, and she’ll use her new “English countryside” laydee of the manor shtick to flog it all back to her US market. MM will wear whatever cap fits on the day. Montecito is over.

Press will be there in force in my opinion - perhaps even Alison Hammond like last time.
Newspapers and TV will definitely cover this visit Royal Rota or not.

Long time lurker, first post. For info, the anniversary of the Aberfan disaster falls on the 21st of October. On Thursday the RF are visiting the Senedd, in Cardiff. There is a (growing louder) .. Not my monarchy.. sentiment expressed in Wales. See comments on anything to do with the RF on Wales online, and the SSquad has appeared to have recently found these threads and making their usual comments. It may be that there will be a few shouts /boos as the RF approach the Senedd, and interesting to see any press coverage, if so.

My2cents1975 · Yesterday 15:32

NewPR just in time for the Thursday visit. I suspect a flood of new names who "innocently" entered the chat armed with talking points!

IMHO, Nottingham is quite clearly a PR reset and I would be surprised if there wasn't a crowd. Aside from the endless advertising (despite HaM's endless shrieks about security), it is a well-known PR trick to hire actors to pad out brand launches and this is the latest brand launch for the HaMs.

IMHO, Brand HaM faces too many headwinds mostly due to HaM's careless destruction of all the goodwill they took for granted. Media/social media will love the clicks but the HaMs aren't earning a large enough living to access the billionaire lifestyle that they want.

If the US had been a success, the HaMs would not currently be squatters at the mercy of billionaire Wace!

It has always been the case that the monarchy has to justify its existence. The years of shielding Andrew have taken their toll, along with numerous financial scandals. Now a son of the king and his wife are behaving badly without consequence. Their royal-style events are poorly organised because they don't have experienced advisers. It is a reasonable position to maintain that they pose a threat to the monarchy, and that the monarchy is likely to be weakened if it does nothing.

Harry is the King's son yes, but he's in his 40s. His behaviour only reflects on him, not the institution he stormed out of nearly 7 years ago. I'm also not sure what you expect the Palace to do about him and his wife conducting faux royal 'engagements'. Charles made it very clear that they are not representing the Monarchy so other than that, there's not much he can or should do.
