Oh dear the Beeb is letting it's sympathies show ...

"He's out for the people"

Oh hun. He's very much out for himself.

MarchionessVonSausage · Today 14:09

His commentary is funny in the meanwhile. "You'd have more people waiting outside a nightclub" etc.

And D.H.LAWRENCE!

And London Grammar!

If the plan was to dazzle everyone with how popular they were in Nottingham and use that as leverage with Charles, it’s flopped badly.

What leverage, though? how that's going to be framed to HM? 'Look, we're so popular and we do the royalling so well, you need us back. You just have to forget about the OW interview, Spare, Megz taking the piss out of grannie, the racism accusation and all the calls for apologies, yah? oh, and an apology WOULD be nice, too.'

No way back as working royals. Especially after the letter from Palace. Private citizens. No way palace would backtrack. They also don't need them.

I really hope the grifters didn't get paid expenses for today and charities benefit

And frankly, some people would go to the opening of an envelope, never mind if a quasi-royal rocked up to do it.

Do we need special clothes to be part of the claque?
I do hope so!

Unfortunately the MSM reporting is very different and that's what matters

fridaynightzzz · Today 14:12

When they said half in/half out this isn’t what they meant though did they. They meant making money and doing the big stuff, not visiting community centres.

HM said in his first speech as king that he wished them well in their life in the US. He then reiterated that they are not working royals a couple of months ago. What does he have to do for them to get the message that there is no way back?

The posters crowing on here as if this is some sort of win when really it’s abject failure, crawling back to do exactly the same thing but at your own expense.

Of course they are winning. No matter how many fairytales you and the like invent to convince yourselves otherwise. It’s another example that shows that your opinion of them does little to disrupt their everyday life. You are part of a very small, albeit determined, minority that direct all your time and energy to hating on a couple who, through their actions, show that you do not matter.

valeriy2 · Today 14:14

If the metric is live or die by the crowds then let's have this applying to real and faux Royals alike and let's further more benchmark that against peak QE2 with a reminder who is being paid and has an extensive PR machine and who doesn’t. It is foolish to fight on those grounds if you are choosing to do so.

The crowds were bigger in my local Lidl at ten to four on Sunday tbh. The excitement levels were a lot higher as well, as people competed for the last loaves of wholemeal.

Yes it's the opportunity cost of a life ebbing away as well. Time is short use it wisely.

I used Chat in this instance;

If you’re going to judge royals by how many people turn up to see them, then apply the same standard to everyone — including Harry and Meghan, as well as the working Royal Family. Compare them fairly with the crowds Queen Elizabeth II attracted at the height of her popularity. And remember that the working royals are funded and supported by a substantial publicity machine, whereas Harry and Meghan don’t have the same resources. It’s a foolish argument to make if you’re trying to prove one side is more popular than the other

But what would Justine say?

That's what I want to know.

MarchionessVonSausage · Today 14:19

Harry & Megan both turned up. I think I just saw Megs quickly.?

Not exactly a big crowd. I've seen bigger at my local farmers market here in Oz.

MrsFinkelstein · Today 14:19

Tom Sykes on the ground.
You can see an aide bringing in more children to swell the crowds.
