It's a win for them. It's project rehabilitation for them. H plugging Diana and his MH for all it's worth to try to gain sympathy. If they play the long game, it might well work out for them

They are not being "rehabilitated" though. They are simply making fools of themselves for desperately trying to pretend they are still somehow equal to working royals when they are the ones who pulled out of being working royals. What exactly is their goal? To go around the country doing faux royal walkabouts to crowds of a few dozen, most of who've been bussed in specially? To visit endless small community centres because no major organisation wants to be associated with them? They will never appear on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, they will never be at the Remembrance Day official events, they will never attend state dinners for visiting foreign leaders, they will never go on a royal tour and represent Britian abroad.

Compare the big crowds they got in Nottingham in 2017, when they visited as working royals, with the paltry crowd today. It must be a real shock for Meghan, who probably thought that the crowds in 2017 were there just because she's amazing and Harry the popular cheeky lad.

There is no long game for them. In not too many years, William's children will be young adults and there will be endless fascination with them. Harry and Meghan will be pushing 50. Who is going to care about Harry then?

I feel this is just mocking people now who don’t understand how the UK constitutional monarchy works, and who are wedded to the perceived comfort of social media and celebrity.

Good luck with putting that genie back in the bottle.

Well at the very least the damp squib fox has been well and truly shot. So back to fake royals and grifting accusations from the 'claquers'.

I’d rather be claquers than craquers…

That’s not a very nice way to talk about Harry 🤪

BemusedAmerican · Today 13:38

Here in the US, people put out a call for extras through certain social media channels. A cash fee is paid for participation. I know people who do it, including retirees looking to supplement social security or college students who want cash. I mentioned yesterday that I thought they would used paid extras.

Exactly, we will see the real royals at the state gala next week & at Sandringham him for Christmas?
And where will H&M be? Nowhere as they were not invited as they are no longer part of the royal family..

The can play make believe all they want but they will be missing at the events that matter as they are not royal.

BunnyBunbunbun · Today 13:38

I wonder why they do this knowing it is exactly what the late Queen said no to back in 2020.

It is bizarre to see them prancing about as if working royals. Why not stick to private charity stuff, must he have the attention to boost his ego?

I do think KC needs to do something to stop them, surely it is a conflict of interests for them to be so blatantly 'competing' against the RF.

The late Queen couldn't and didn't tell them not to go to a community centre or shake people's hands.

What the late Queen said was they are not working royals and do not represent her in any way, as reiterated by King Charles recently.

I'm not sure what you think Charles can do. Have them arrested? Banish them? Lock them up?

BigWillyLittleTodger · Today 13:38

StrawberryWasp · Today 13:14

I do find it galling them prancing about as if they are royal. And wish people would ignore them or boo them.

Personally I think their past behaviour combined with the hubris of pseudo royal engagements deserves boos.

But I console myself with the thought that they can do this self aggrandising pretence all they want. It won't make them royal. It's not their job. It's a little ego soothing hobby for them.

And it may get headlines but it's gossip headlines.

When it comes to representing the state, official occasions, duties and roles, and even now family occasions they have nothing. It will all be KC and PoWs.

And if M didn't like doing visits before because 'she wasn't getting paid ' she's really not going to like doing many visits to Midlands towns she'd never heard of as a hobby.

This is temporarily attractive to her only to annoy the royals. She won't be maintaining free visits to small charities outside London for very long.

That’s what was said in the report, she won’t be doing these “charity” visits often, this will take the headlines for a couple of days but in the end nothing will change, the royals will keep royalling and HAM will have backgrid on speed dial for pap walks.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Today 13:40

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Today 13:28

We might well say the same about the lady who commented "The youth of Nottingham need someone to look up to", MrsD

It would depend on the youth, really. Perhaps their life is so miserable and lacking in achievement that looking up to a self confessed druggie and proven liar who lacks any concept of accountability, willingly trashes everything else in his own interests and has failed at just about everything he's ever attempted, would actually be an improvement and a role model.

I'm sure Nottingham isn't THAT bad, though. Anyway, they may as well milk it, their enthusiasm won't last and it's not long before they fade into insignificance with the Wales children growing up.

A valid point about their existing role models, MrsD, and I hate to break it to you but parts of Nottingham reallyare that bad - and they include some of the areas H&M are visiting

Maybe some were just pleased anyone would risk it, but I admit H&Ms' choices were a surprise in light of their carrying on about security

Anyone saying 'he should be the next king' is so bloody uninformed they should be disqualified from having an opinion.

Meanwhile on TT you have plenty of people saying they can't wait for William to be King.
Could they only rustle up 1 Squaddie for a "King Harry" comment?

Maybe they were hoping that someone in Nottingham would mug them? If we get robbed on camera then that proves we need security!

Indeed. Wonder what’s in HAM 2027 diary…

MrsLeonFarrell · Today 13:46

It seems to have been a moderately successful visit. I hope the charities benefit.

The BBC have 24/7 news to fill on multiple platforms, of course they are going to feature the visit. It would be strange if they were the headline of the 1 pm news, the bit that shows real priorities, but they aren't.

Ultimately though in the grand scheme of things nothing has changed.

I remember them too. Their distinctive sound is ringing in my ear. The were dangerous too. You knew I you got hit by one of those balls.

She said no to half and half which is what this is, using his rf status to do exactly as he wishes which isn't how it works. He should work for the institution or do something else.

Obviously KC can't have him 'locked up' but he needs to stop indulging him with silly teas that on planet Sussex keep H's 'royalty' relevant and cut him off for good.

I don't care if H goes on strictly or iacgmooh, he needn't be hidden but the fake tours and cosplaying working royals needs to stop.

IcedPurple · Today 13:47

smilesy · Today 13:07

Exactly. This just seems to be “putting in an appearance” for the sake of it. It’s not earning them any money and they are not representing anyone. So completely pointless even if the PR is ok. They don’t really have a viable business that this PR would support, so what exactly is the aim of this appearance?

I agree. This may not have been a complete failure, but what does it achieve?

Anyone at all familiar with royal visits know this is a sad imitation of the real thing. We have their 2017 visit to the same city to demonstrate that. They won't have made any money from the visit and it's hard to see how it's going to advance any of their 'aims'. Indeed, it just shows how far they've sunk from their brief glory days as a royal couple.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Today 13:47

MrsLeonFarrell · Today 13:34

I'm catching up. Does this happen for actual royal visits? I don't get the impression that their teams whip up a crowd.

The closest I've come was Margaret's 1990 visit to a huge Scout Jamboree, MrsD, so I couldn't really say
There, they organised various countries' kids into some sort of order to greet her, but the general public weren't allowed in so it was all a bit different

Why didn’t they just stay as working royals if they want to visit run down areas of the UK meeting and greeting the plebs? Imagine doing this for free when as a working royal they would have had bells and whistles security, assistants to hold the flowers, a massive free house in Windsor and country estate if their choice gifted by the King, designers falling over themselves to dress you, a huge clothing allowance, all expenses paid, the list goes on an on, and this pair of clowns are doing it all for nothing now they’ve come crawling back to salty island, buffoons! 😂

MrsFinkelstein · Today 13:52

I think there might be more media than crowds.
Is the crowd swelling yet?
