You may think it sad, and I do see why. However, I cannot see @MNHQ banning threads about Megan and Harry. Fans of theirs can post threads too. There are bitchy posts, there are posts looking at the bigger issues (impact on the monarchy, Harry's behaviour with charities etc) but I have seen no racist comments. Any that were posted would be removed. People here and generally dislike Meghan not because she is mixed race but for her role in trying to bring down the monarchy and her public criticism and dislike of Britain.

It's so fragile that it's needs a claque of special Mumsnet Praetorian Guards to preserve the sanctity of it from the barbarians at the gates. But in reality if a "reasonable person" were to read these threads full of gleeful spite and hate they would probably think it's time to call time on this whole shebang. Arguably you are damaging the very institution you profess to want to protect.

Why are they awful? They want to be working royals again. It's not worked out in California, but I don't know why. Maybe they were happy doing royal stuff and wanted to give it another go? No idea

The only problem is that to do "royal stuff" they need give up anything commercial they do. They can't be half in and half out. Royal stuff means you are representing the monarch, the Sussexes represent themselves.

There is nothing wrong with being celebrities visiting charities and publicising causes, lots of them do this with varying levels of commitment and success. Harry and Meghan are going down this route, celebrities not royals. Their choice and I hope it makes them happy and that they do some good for the charities concerned.

I saw Diana in Liverpool in the early 90s. It was first thing in the morning and there was a few hundred people stood there (out of the city centre). I bet people were only there by word of mouth. We just happened to be walking past.

Kingsandqueenz · Today 12:10

What they are doing just makes no sense and is weird. They didn’t want to be working royals but flounce around on visits like this with walkabouts attempting to emulate being working royals. It’s just stupidity.

it’s not grift.
it’s not horrible.
it’s not malicious.

It’s just plain weird. If they just had the sense to do their own thing and not try and copy to royal family engagement stuff, then successful or not, I’d have more respect. This is just cringey.

They are cos playing in the hope KC takes them back, they know how much there children have lost by removing them from the Royal Family & now they want it all back... mortifying on so many levels.

Arguably they would not.

Because most would see this Nottingham visit for the self serving nonsense it is.

The problem is everyone knows in the UK they have been exiled & annexed from the Royal Family, they are not part of it so they look ridiculous pretending to be royals when the reality is the complete opposite...

I have to agree. One day someone will sue. The optics are not good. Any moral high ground completely lost by such a stance.

A continued thread upon thread.
Mumsnet loses all credibility here.

Start a thread in Site Stuff if you’re that affected by a discussion on MN. Although, yes, it’s certainly a shame about Harry’s recorded racism. I’m reminded of it every time I see him. The Sentebale court case will be interesting.

Bigger than the Ralph Lauren trousers?

SqueakyDinosaur · Today 12:14

@valeriy2 re your post about Lord Foulkes saying that royal engagements (and indeed quasi-royal engagements) aren't work - I have had one single day of doing what the royals do all the time (I launched a ship, long story) and I have rarely been so tired at the end of a day. It is absolutely exhausting being the focus of scrutiny and being acutely conscious that you have a protocol to follow. It may not be work as in manual labour, but it's draining. As a once in a lifetime experience it was absolutely amazing, but also very stressful.

I'd also add that if that's not work, I'd also argue that being paid to sit on a nice squishy red leather bench and occasionally spout off about something doesn't sound much like work, either, so motes and beams, Lord F!

I know I shouldn’t - because I’ll get told off for engaging ploppers - but if you actually read the threads you’d see a lot of us are out and out republicans or at least republic leaning. This is is not about protecting the monarchy. The HAM insanity has brought monarchists and republicans together.

Also, I’ve watched the posters here, hate and personal comments tend to be stamped down on hard. There are regular discussions about what this thread should be. Comment on behaviour and impact is what it’s about. About the PR nonsense and how it misses.

I write like that hence the post.Don't worry I'm busy clearing the house on eBay and just popped in for a mo to see how it was going and hopefully help the OP with the answer to her question.

So usual stuff

Badly put together outfit
Pulled back hair which makes the camera gurning worse
Holy hands poses

Ive not seen the claw but no doubt it’s out and working overtime

Markle bingo card is filling up nicely

All we’re missing is the usual self congratulatory speech, is there a roundabout close by ?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Today 12:16

I'm pretty sure - no, I am sure - that an institution that's survived civil war, abdications, regicide and a few other political and social cataclysms isn't going to be brought down by 'threads full of gleeful hate and spite.'

I'm going to assume that you weren't here to read the threads about the Princess of Wales when she had cancer, because if you wanted 'gleeful hate and spite' it was there in bucketfuls.

Monty36 · Today 12:16

Sue for what?

An opinion? Someone telling the truth?

I would imagine some sort of corporate defamation of character. Given the threads have been going for so very long. Are so very anti and hostile in the main. And mumsnet just sits back and lets it continue. For such a long long time. Arguably, the threads, as they can be, become managed not by public opinion and view but by those who seek to damage those discussed.

No point whining about it here.

You think not murdering anyone is an acceptable benchmark for behaviour from the Sussexes?

How do you think Meghan & Harry "damaged those discussed" in Spare, Oprah & Netflix?

What are your thoughts especially when much of what was said was debunked as either completely false or highly exaggerated?

You have just copied exactly the same post you made to someone else that raised an opinion that decided they thought these threads were not okay.

I did not set about anyone expressing an anti opinion. I just set out my new post with mine. Shame you cannot do likewise.

They damage themselves with lies, vary recollections and utter nonsense.

You can imagine all you like but there is no-one in the land who would encourage such a case.

Well, maybe Harry’s old brief might.
