WRT H inheriting from KC I would expect the RF do a lot of forward thinking around inheritance.

To avoid IHT you need to gift money 7 years before you die or set up trusts. I imagine that KC has probably already set up trusts for A&L which tie down the money so they inherit at specific ages e.g. 21, 40 etc.

I seem to write this every few threads!
The monarch is unlikely to leave any inheritance on death to anyone but the next monarch.
Like the rest of us - nobody wants to really have to pay inheritance tax.
Only the portion of the estate passed from monarch to monarch is IHT free so everything else will have been well sorted before the monarchs demise.
QEII will have set up trust funds - pretty nice ones I would imagine - for Anne, Andrew & Edward. Also l suspect for her grandchildren too excluding William who would benefit from the Duchy of Cornwall & ‘Being king’ & becoming heir to all that belongs to the Duchy of Lancaster.
We can surmise this because when HM died we didn’t see Andrew (and by extension Fergie) on a spending spree and doing the necessary maintenance to royal lodge did we. It would make zero sense for the monarch to gift their child/grandchild millions which would then automatically be reduced by 40% straight into the tax man’s pocket.
So if Meghan or Harry are expecting any sort of inheritance I think they will be hugely disappointed.
I think we also need to take this into account.
The King took over the annual payments to his siblings for doing their royal duties - but stopped Andrew’s in a bid to get him out of Royal Lodge,
When the trust funds were set up they would be set up with the expectation that the individual would be doing royal duties (like Anne, Edward and Sophie are) and thus being paid their ‘allowance’.
Andrew’s was rumoured to be £250,000. I suppose Anne’s & Edwards were similar although their spouses work for the crown ( 👋 at Tim Lawrence ) so they may have been bigger to reflect that.
Harrys trust funds will have been set up with the expectation that he would be working for the Crown and thus would get an allowance from his father and then his brother. (Just like im sure Charles is with Anne and Edward. )
I expect that if William and Harry had stayed close and Harry hadnt fucked off and abandoned his duty left then William would have been very generous.

Im surprised Harry manages to walk so well considering how many times he has shot himself in the foot.

Oh H. Chelsey Davey has published a blog post on her Aya jewellery website saying that she had given no thought to marriage or motherhood until she met her husband and knew that she was wanted both, with him. If H is still holding an (As ever) candle for her, this will sting. Covered in the Daily Mail (and not behind a pay wall)!

I am sure good wife M is authentically standing by ready to elevate him and see the world through his lens.

It might backfire badly on HAM if they get RAVEC security. I would imagine the conditions are very strict. No leaking of "events", no leaking to paps, basically a very low profile

In a couple of generations Andrew will be history, in the same way that George VI and Edward VIII are now.

The Windsor Duchy was specifically created, but no-one would say we shouldn't use the Prince of Wales title because David disgraced it. The Duchy of York is traditionally used for the second son.

Monarchy time is different to celebrity time.

So traditionally it should go to Louis then.

I wonder if William will break with tradition and bestow it upon (2nd born child) Charlotte as "Duchess of York" in her own right. That would mean 'Duke of York' wouldn't be used in the 'next generation' and the title would either revert to the crown (if she has no sons) or be passed to her son who would be another generation removed from AMW.

Louis could be given another dukedom, say, Cambridge.

I will as well. I particularly like the fact the story of the Nativity features in an accompanying booklet. Its not often Jesus gets a look in at Christmas nowadays.

Yes this really annoys me, I wanted some Christmas cards that depicted the nativity last Christmas not one of the major supermarkets stocked any, or any card shop, I eventually found some in my local garden centre, it really pissed me off.

Edinburgh will become available in 20 years so. If Charlotte is given York when she marries, Louis could be given Edinburgh when he marries, although the timing may not work.

The Royal family hasn't had any same sex unions so far. That could be interesting, given the attitude of the Church of England to them. Prince George was 'sorted out' (sex with men and drugs) by marrying Princess Marina, not an approach that could easily be used now.

It puzzles me because the festivals of other major faiths are not sidelined. Of course I understand why this happens but it needs a rethink.

I agree up to a point. But my predictions are:

  • younger siblings get lifetime only titles as a long service reward (like Princess Royal)
  • direct heir doesn't get PoW title (if parent is monarch) until ending education or marriage
  • if direct heir is grandchild rather than child when getting married, they get a dukedom (which would therefore return to the crown)

AMW still technically has the York Dukedom, so it was always unlikely it would be a marriage award for Charlotte or Louis as he is only in his 60s and his parents lived into their 90s. Possibly a long service award, by which time AmW will be a distant memory.

Or possibly we will have a republic.

Yes, as I said above, I think HRH will be reserved for working royals, and royal Dukedoms will be for the holder only before returning to the Crown.

The direct heir currently does not receive the Prince of Wales title automatically; the Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay and other titles are inherited automatically on the accession of the monarch, but the Prince of Wales title (with that of Earl of Chester) is granted by the monarch when he (or she) wishes.
Charles was made Prince of Wales when he was 9, six years after his mother acceded to the throne; William was made Prince of Wales the day after his father's accession. (There were rumours at the time that the speed related to Harry still using Wales as a surname in the US; I suspect it was more to show solidarity and continuity in the monarchy.)

You may be right re York. I still think it will skip and not be used until George's children. There are other options for the current children.

Elon wants to repopulate the world with his genes. No chance he would go for Meghan.

Yeah I kind of agree with this.. he isn't into "Let's get papped at Wholefoods" fingers crossed anyway

I wish I was kidding.

Starryfifty · Yesterday 18:14

I think the only time we would see an apology is if they absolutely hit rock bottom (ok, I know they are perilously close). If Ingrifrus expenses come to light. If Sophie C refuses to settle. Then I think they may feel forced into an apology but even if it is graciously accepted, I still don't think they will ever have even a minor role in the RF again

LookOutLookOutTomCruiseIsAbout · Yesterday 18:16

I wonder whether the RF saw any of this coming or whether it was a huge shock when Harry turned on them so viciously. I do feel sorry for William going through all the shit he’s faced over the last few years - deaths of PP and QE2 and KC3 and PoW illnesses - not just without his brother, but with his brother actively and deliberately making things harder. And KC3 trying to navigate keeping the monarchy steady post QE2 while going through cancer treatment and managing the constitutional, diplomatic and family consequences of Harry’s tantrums. I bet he and William have had a few rueful conversations about their respective younger brothers.

Soooooooooooooo - a week on from "school security scare - the kids are at risk and need taxpayer security" - Meghan is back to teasing Lilibet's appearance to sell gloopy jam 🙄

I honestly don't think they thought he would be so ugly tbh. You would never expect it from your family.

We are treated to a deck of images and video clips in celebration of the launch of the As ever holiday season. One of the clips partially reveals the face of Lilibet (I think, but maybe not) from the side. She is a tease, is M 😁 Poor Archie does not feature though.

Did you know, by the way, that 'Behind every successful woman is herself'? I'm so glad to have this wisdom. It means I can forget all about my dad, my mum, aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles, cousins, teachers, neighbours, friends, the parents of friends, bosses, and colleagues who I have until now credited with helping me along my way. So freeing to be without them!

DaisyDooley · Yesterday 18:29

Is a spoonful of jam runny bitter spread in a huge bowl really something that a 5(?) year old would say is “so beautiful”??
DD was always cooking with me and she really wouldn’t have been excited over a spoon of non jam.

Starryfifty · Yesterday 18:30

Anyone else think it's odd that Lili says "it's beautiful " exactly same way she said it in a previous video dump Meg posted? About a year ago?

What a ridiculous quote. I guess it makes sense to a woman who has basically shafted everyone she has ever got close to

I've just listened. It's exactly the same. Probably deliberate, to leave us wondering.

She's hardly going to be crediting Harry for supporting her, is she? This could be the start of edging away.
