I know William is much more intelligent than Harry, but I don’t think he has those kind of intellectual interests in the way that Philip and Charles did either. One of the pieces performed at Philip’s funeral was something he’d commissioned the composer Benjamin Britten to write. I just can’t see something like that happening now. I think it’s partly a general change in society and I know William supports good causes etc etc but you do sort of feel there’s something being lost there when there’s not that kind of hinterland. I think it’s the same with the church- he’s going to be the head of the church and has very little interest in the church or the concept of faith. But then, maybe endless pontificating is what makes Charles seem weak and actually what the monarchy needs next is someone just straight down the line I don’t know.
