Does anyone think the Kings response was aggressive ?

I must admit I don’t, and thought made Charles S look rather retulant

I thought KC's response was quite calm & measured

CS is behaving like a toddler who has been told orf

A statement released on Spencer’s behalf last week said: “As an historian, accuracy is important to Earl Spencer. He therefore wishes to clarify that his assumption was incorrect.

As an historian, he should know that proper historians don't assume things. They use evidence.

Theunamedcat · 30/09/2026 08:58

The kings response was aggressive? Considering he accused the king of homosexual dalliances and celebrating the death of his coparent i feel it was restrained

Locking him up in the tower now that would have been aggressive

Pointing out he publicly humiliated his own wife who also had an eating disorder the fact that he had hardly spoken to his sister for years then gave a speech about how the terrible royal family failed her while not mentioning the fact that he also failed her the hypocrisy of him displaying her wedding dress (i believe William has taken charge of that now?) Selling signed copies of his eulogy for cash of course basically dining out on the corpse (excuse me) MEMORIES of his deceased sister and re traumatising her own children....would have been aggressive

King Charles statement? Pretty fucking tame

I just read that link about the Spencer interview. He says he thinks there is not a person on the planet who thinks it was a good idea for the boys to walk behind their mothers coffin.

I am one who disagrees.

I think that they should have been allowed the honor of walking with their mother. Accompanying a close relative to their funeral is a normal and important part of the grieving process in our culture. That shouldn't have been taken from the boys. I think the people who decided to make it a public spectacle thereby forcing them to give up that right, or to do it and and make a spectacle of their grief in front of millions of strangers were in the wrong.

I thought HM's response was very measured. Here's our comment and we have nothing further to add.

CS is trying to provoke BP into a tit for tat, and he's not going to succeed.

I'd agree that the basic handling as seen in the film isn't that extreme and with TC being reasonably gifted he could probably be taught to do the basics but it would take time and I'm sure the insurers would have a fit..

When did Tom Cruise ever take note of the insurers? 😂

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/09/2026 09:07

He says he thinks there is not a person on the planet who thinks it was a good idea for the boys to walk behind their mothers coffin.

He has no input into what billions of people thought. How many people watched the funeral? around 2 billion. That's 5 billion who didn't for whatever reason.

What he thinks everyone on the planet thinks is irrelevant. He's really trying to provoke BP into a slanging match now and getting desperate because he can't.
Even for CS that's a monumentally stupid comment.

Williaminagingerwig · 30/09/2026 09:07

How arrogant of Spencer to speak for everyone on the planet.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/09/2026 09:09

Aged 13 I was not allowed to go to DF's funeral. For years I thought he was somewhere else and just couldn't or wouldn't come back to us. I was 21 before I told myself 'yep, he's dead.'

(1960s, children were left to get on with it and get over it).

bluegreygreen · 30/09/2026 09:11

Someone should point out to Charles Spencer that 'gaslighting' has a specific meaning, not 'someone disagrees with me'.

Also, accuracy wasn't important with regard to Piers Morgan and which paper he worked on, so the moral high ground is gone there, I'm afraid. His accuracy is clearly selective at best.

Misuse of terms is not confined to CS. I was told on another thread 'you're wrong.' I felt obliged to point out that a difference of opinion is not being wrong about something.

Yes, but that's a MN thread. It's not the same as a book published by a famous person who is making serious accusations about the king, defending the claims on chat shows and making controversial claims.

You're right, he's misused that term a lot.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/09/2026 09:33

Victory over who? the RF? other authors? who does he think he's in a battle with?

I foresee thousands of people getting this for Christmas, reading it and then bunging to the nearest chazza.

Me too.

They've said it was the hardest thing they ever had to do. That doesn't mean they regret doing it. Writing and reading the eulogy at my mother's funeral was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do - my sister was in floods of tears but I had to hold it together.

I was glad I did it and wouldn't have let anyone stop me. But yes, it was extremely hard.

I guess everyone on this thread has had the luxury of growing up in a time of peace and comparative plenty, unlike the generations before us who went through wars, were expected to die for their countries and whose lives really were tough. I'm not wishing that on anyone, but sometimes I think we're a pathetic lot.

Yes - some things are hard, some things are very tough - but it doesn't mean you shouldn't do them!

He thinks he's in a battle with the Windors and he has some weird revenge fantasy.

JuniperJumper · 30/09/2026 09:40

I sincerely hope no-one gives me this book for Christmas ~ there are a million zillion things I would prefer

And I certainly wouldn't inflict it on any of my friends or family

Starryfifty · 30/09/2026 09:43

Of course H wants a reconciliation with William. It would benefit him hugely.

I agree.
My mother died when I was a child and I wasn’t even told she was dead until after the funeral.
I have always wished I had been involved and part of a proper farewell.
In the situation with Diana and a public funeral I would have wanted to walk too.

The report on ‘ international paparazzi’ is from the HaM’s pet Chris Ship.
Two men with backpacks seen near the school leave in a van. They could be tourists or walkers?
https://x.com/itvnews/status/2105076698723086370?s=46

It's quite obvious HAM want someone to leak the school name. I pity the other students/ parents

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/09/2026 09:54

Men with backpacks in a van? what, like at Fairford?

They can't even be original with the threats they make up, can they?

Who spotted these men in a van? Do we have evidence?
