No, of course not. Charles is a good king and I like him, he isn't afraid to speak out when necessary (albeit within the constraints and protocol surrounding him) and he is passionate about the environment. And not afraid to get involved with very modern issues, eg. his attendance at the summit on AI just recently.

I don't believe the rubbish spouted by Spencer's latest book, no better than the unpleasant nonsense spouted by Harry & Megan. It's sad that Charles has to deal with this during his later years.

Minasama · 18/09/2026 08:15

Absolutely not. He is a very good King.

The others are peripherals. I can’t believe Earl Spencer would repeat this conversation considering the sons of Diana are still alive. Also the words could equally have been taken to have a sorrowful meaning. We only have his recollection and his interpretation.

Yes, mind you I wish they would all go. Ridiculous having a Royal unelected family..

The alternative being Trump or an African dictator?

A heated conversation between two emotional people almost 30 years ago? Not reliable evidence.

Glad it’s majority a no. The book is a nonsense. Talk about monetising your sister. Maybe he’s out of cash.

Could well be the case. Cost of keeping up Althorp and any divorce settlements.

SeptemberRains · 18/09/2026 08:33

@Minasama
There are many countries with elected Heads of State who are not Trump or African dictators.

There's no reason to disbelieve him. D was an embarrassment and the RF are v good at self preservation and so we're probably delighted it happened.

You think they were "delighted" ?! 😲
Delighted that William and Harry lost their mum? For real?.

I loved the interview on radio 4 earlier where they said he seems happy with his 4th wife.

All that alimony and child support, together with expensive hobbies, must be a burden for the man.

dizzydizzydizzy · 18/09/2026 08:42

I can’t stand the royals but even I have to admit that organising that AI summit was a stroke of genius. So I am now wavering.

That is not accurate. Charles was very upset, as were others.

BadBadCat · 18/09/2026 08:48

Absolutely not!

Charles is a good King and I think he's a good person. He has principles and ideals that are lacking in those that are trying to destroy him. He has more stability and purpose than most as he knew his destiny was to be King and has been guided all his life by his parents to reach this point. Those trying to tarnish him have the opposite, notedly Harry who has his lived his whole life lived in privilege but without real purpose or principle.

In the aristocratic circles that he is surrounded by it is clear that money and privilege lead to individuals with serious esteem and mental health issues. They lack direction and a sense of their own place and purpose in society. Diana was one of them, and clearly the rest of the Spencer family are the same. Their upbringing in a such a privileged but emotionally neglectful and turbulent family has left them unable to form functional relationships and addicted to drama.

God yes. They care about the Institution more than the people in it. These are not normal people.

There is ever reason to disbelieve him the man is a monster there is something twisted in the bloodline he is sick

Ok. I think it's a truly vile accusation of Spencer's. I'll just say this; Diana's death lead to her being idolised, the flowers, the weeping. The RF had a wave of unpopularity, and it was a genuinely difficult time for them. The RF were scared of repercussions.
William and Harry lost their mum in a horrific car smash.
Only a complete psychopath would be delighted.
That's all.

Passingthroughagain · 18/09/2026 08:56

He should step down from his job because he's got a chronic yet manageable cancer? Would you say that to every cancer patient in his situation?

WarriorN · 18/09/2026 08:57

Cathandkin · 18/09/2026 08:13

Well, he's certainly not helping or supporting.

he’s not a working royal.

By being settled now Harry is avoiding the hoo har of him returning when the king does get quite unwell as the media storm will be awful. And what an awful journey that will be too. They all experienced that when the queen died.

If he’s here already he and his children are able to see the king as he starts to become unwell. And it’s less of a big stressful media deal for those who like all the drama, not least for the king too.

The children and the king, and Camilla will also be able to enjoy a relationship now. This is a healthy approach and clearly one that benefits the children in many many ways

This seems utterly obvious to me and I don’t understand why people don’t get it.

He was not upset in the slightest. He didnt even like her when he married her and liked her even less when people liked her more than him.

WarriorN · 18/09/2026 08:59

Harry more than anyone surely wants to make sure his children get what he missed out on.

And the children have cousins. My kids have great relationships with their cousins. That’s a really important special relationship.

He's not being supportive of his father, or his brother.

sittingonabeach · 18/09/2026 09:06

And has Harry been to see the king when he returned? Didn’t really tell them when they were returning, or did he want it to be a nice surprise @WarriorN?

I would say Charles Spencer’s and Harry’s latest actions are all to do with money (or lack of)

Of course he shouldn't and won't abdicate
