I do, why are you even asking?! and what has any of it got to do with what you’ve said?

It’s been 29 years since Diana died! Why release the book now? And actually who cares what either of them said nearly 30 years ago. Charles and Diana shouldn’t have married and both families were at fault for that!

And no I don’t think he needs to abdicate, William doesn’t want the job ….. yet!!??

Agree.

No. I think he is a good King.

Agreed. I much prefer him to the late Queen. He is more relatable, more socially aware, more in touch with the problems of the day and has been tackling issues that are long overdue. In short, I think he is great. Why on Earth should he abdicate over the tawdry Spencer book or the antics of his son and daughter in law - 2 adults with agency?

ItsAlwaysTwins · 17/09/2026 20:46

😂 Not sure that any of those are a reason to abdicate.

And his health? He looks ok? Seems to ‘work’ as before 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do 🙋‍♀️
why would H+M returning to the uk mean that the king should abdicate?

Bitsostuff · 17/09/2026 20:56

God yes! They should all abdicate in quick succession.

Yes please

LlynTegid · 17/09/2026 20:59

I would have preferred William to have become King upon Queen Elizabeth's death. That was never going to happen, and I think Charles should continue.

EmpressSisi · 17/09/2026 21:00

He’s weathered bigger storms than this.

ExitPursuedByABare · 17/09/2026 21:01

I fail to understand how any of the things you’ve mentioned should lead to him abdicating.

And reporting posters for innocuous comments.

Are you quite well?

Guidanceplease20 · 17/09/2026 21:03

No. Abdication was a family embarrassment in history. He will continue forever in the role but pass more and more over and no doubt has powers of attorney drawn up so actiins can be attended to if he is unfit.

The only time i think an abdication might happen is following a dementia diagnosis, where use of POA might go on for years.

MurphysColeslaw · 17/09/2026 21:03

I think he’s made of stronger stuff, than to be ‘bullied’ into abdication by the shenanigans of
Charles Spencer and Harry and co.
Hopefully the stress won’t impede his cancer recovery.

ExOptimist · 17/09/2026 21:03

No he should not abdicate. I believe that, as with his mother, he would think that abdication is unconscionable, given the effect on his grandfather after the abdication of Edward VIII.
If he becomes too ill or infirm then William will take on the more strenuous duties, as Charles did for his mother.

Who won't live? I don't understand this post.

Do you really need someone to explain

For kings its having a regent to support running the country-which would be William. Not a power of atourney to manage his personal bank accounts 🤣

Dollymylove · 17/09/2026 21:05

Charles wont abdicate. Hes been waiting to become King his whole life. However hes in his late 70s, had cancer so I doubt he will live as long as his mother. I predict that Harry will be toast when William claims the crown 😉

Calling · 17/09/2026 20:35

The late Queen did not abdicate and she faced many obstacles.
Don't you understand that monarchs make a vow? They make it in Westminster Abbey.

the vow does not prevent them abdicating. The Queens "my whole life" speech was written for her and had nothing to do with her coronation vows.

You clearly know what i meant!

wordler · 17/09/2026 21:07

I can see an advantage in an older monarch stepping away to allow an heir to start the top job while still relatively young, as the Danish monarchy did.

It would also allow the new monarch to start their reign not in a fog of grief that their parent has just died.

In Charles' case he hasn't had the job very long, and it would be better for William to get the stuff he really wants to accomplish with the Duchy of Cornwall, and get his kids at least through secondary school before the big job.

So ten years until Louis is 18 - Charles will be 87. That would be the point to start discussing this I think.

MissCooCooMcgoo · 17/09/2026 21:08

@catspyjamas1

Harry and Megan are only a thing because we all keep giving them attention.

The book is just a book. Theres been loads written about the royals over the years, many of them scandalous. Also, documentaries and news articles.

Why would either of these things be reasons to abdicate?

I'm another who'd appreciate an explanation of your "full post and context and seeing the bigger picture" plus, apparently, more "context".
Your replies have been very brief up to now and haven't offered any explanations.
I also don't understand why you've reported OrangeFlower's post saying:
I do, why are you even asking?! and what has any of it got to do with what you’ve said?
It seems very reasonable to me.

Google Counsellors of State. While the official setup would be to appoint a regent or for Counsellors of State to take over certain duties, in reality I think that any necessary action would be unnofficial as it was for the Queen.
