Prince Harry and Meghan had planned to spend the week ... planning to keep the pressure on the members of the committee who are having another meeting within days about the Sussexes’ security arrangements.
No, that's not how it works. You don't (or reasonable people don't) pressurise professionals who are doing a difficult professional job.
The reasons why the letter needed to be written are known only to a handful of the most senior aides to King Charles.
The reasons the letter needed to be written are obvious to anyone who reads the first paragraph, let alone the rest of the (5 paragraph) letter. It's not that difficult.
By the way, have any of you read the 400 page judgement yet?
The suspicion in Prince Harry’s camp is that the letter was issued and made public to try to influence the outcome of a meeting on the family’s security provision, which is taking place this week.
You could try reading the letter again. It is clear that any operational security issues should be directed to the police. Oh - and Buckingham Palace has always been clear that the King will not interfere in security matters.
Prince Harry’s team considers the current provision, which amounts to having the phone number of a police liaison officer, as having zero security.
Of course, if you were actually concerned about security, you wouldn't tell anyone what your security measures were, would you?
The Duke of Sussex wants his family to get a physical police presence, much like former prime ministers get even though they are no longer in office.
You have not had to make life or death decisions while in office, and you are not the holder of state secrets although retired from office.
Harry’s view is that he was born into the family and ... he is a target and threats to his safety are very real.
The professionals who assess the risk to you, your family and all other important people in the country, and make decisions about everyone's security provision, are more likely to be able to do that job effectively if you are not distracting them by unwonted pressure (see first point).
And breathe ...
