Meghan has been offered a part in series 3 of The Gentleman, by Guy Ritchie?

Invites to parties don't mean much. Ted Sarandos is not a fool and isn't going to throw good money after bad with these clowns.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Gentlemen' rumour was agreed with Meghan as a way to drum up interest in series two which coincidentally (?) is just set to launch. It also gives her something of an 'excuse' for returning to Britain, so it's beneficial for both. Otherwise, it would be odd if Guy Ritchie was already casting for a series which hasn't even been greenlit yet.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a 'return to England' 'documentary' is in the works. The visit to Althorp may have been part of that too. That's why it might work in the Sussexes' favour to live away from a royal estate where Netflix cameras wouldn't be given permission to enter. I guess we'll see!

They would have to do the maths on that tho - saving millions on security by living on royal property vs renting various look-a-like locations for NF filming.

"Admitting" was me being tongue in cheek, not suggesting that you hadn't said that previously, but being droll about your tone, which had given off airs of you being the authoritative arbiter and proclaiming what is what, when objectively it's clear.

I am defensive about my industry and how actresses are viewed. @EmpressSisi in particular talked about Meghan's time in Suits in a way that suggested Meghan wasn't successful because she wasn't the lead and wasn't in every scene and it wasn't that huge a hit.

It gave the impression she thinks those of us are regularly make a living for years through acting on TV and are in the main cast but never the lead, and don't have international name recognition, are not successful at our job.

When in reality, the percentages and statistics are such that if you are able to earn a living and support yourself and your family over 7 years through acting on screen without a second job, you categorically are a success in the industry. Only about 2% of actors are able to earn a consistent living through TV and film acting.

To suggest that actors aren't successful unless they have the star role in an international hit is disrespectful to actors as a whole. I am lucky enough to be able to support my family for years through consistent TV roles as main cast in different series, but it seems Empress Sisi would dismiss that and not see me as doing well in m career because I haven't had a starring role in a big hit.

So yes Meghan was unequivocally successful in her acting career. To suggest otherwise (which I agree you personally didn't do, dontlookatme) is either ignorance about the industry or a deliberate ill-willed attempt to disregard facts.

Honestly, with great respect I think you’re reading tone that isn’t there, and criticism of your industry which wasn’t intended.

Of course success isn’t confined to people playing lead parts, no-one is saying that. However MM hadn’t had much success prior to Suits, and had nothing lined up as the series drew to its inevitable close. She met H during that period of scouting for her next project, which was a rich boyfriend.

MM didn’t want to be an actor. She dreamed of being rich and famous. She said as much in a letter to her headteacher.

No-one is criticising genuine actors working in a competitive industry, or suggesting they aren’t successful unless they are have top billing.

I said a long time ago that H&M could have done a serious series for the US market about life in a stately home - the historic house, managing the estate, the tourism aspect and so on. But that was back when they still had some credibility and when H still had friends who might have let them use their houses in return for the publicity. The chance of that is long past, I think.

I agree. I do think they could also have done an 'English prince in America' series, sort of a humourous look at how an upper class Brit adapts to life Stateside. I do think this is the kind of content NF had imagined when they signed them up, but the Sussexes take themselves way too seriously and have zero work ethic. Which isn't to say that some 'return to England' series may not be in the works, but if so it will be a case of diminishing returns for them.

Nah, to be fair to @OnSet she's correct that there was some snobbiness about roles and their values.

@EmpressSisi in particular - but not the only person - was diminishing Rachel's role on Suits by saying she wasn't "main cast" (bollocks) and only had X amount of screen-time and was 'just' the "love interest". That does suggest a lack of respect for certain roles, even if the intent was simply to dismiss Meghan's achievements specifically.

For the record for anyone reading, here is the opening sequence - the credits - for the first 7 seasons of Suits.

You (general 'you') will notice that Meghan's name is fourth, with Gina Torres having the "and Gina Torres" credit.

I know that the "Meghan was only 6 on the call sheet" comes from Tina Brown but I do genuinely wonder if that was correct and if she wasn't in fact 5th, given the credits.

Anyway, anyone who is listed in the main credits for EVERY episode for 7 series has a plum acting job.

I’m not a Meghan Markle fan, but I did love Suits (pre-Katherine Heigle), & totally agree @DandyAF

And Id guarantee if it was their daughter in the role, they wouldn't be telling them and all their friends and family that "oh, no DD, no she's not very successful actor - only really had a little bit role in suits a d then a just a few appearances before that.... I've actually suggested that if she doesn't get the next audition she should try Only Fans"

Which would make them hypocrites themselves 🫢

With respect back, no the criticism of my industry may not have been intended, as the aim was to take shots at Meghan Markle, but it's disingenuous to say it wasn't there. It was a by-product of the points some made.

Even now you're continuing on the dismissive and some of your points aren't logical. You may not mean to, but it's come across as patronising, so I'll take your points one by one.

Of course success isn’t confined to people playing lead parts, no-one is saying that.

They are when they insist that M was a "series regular" and so not main cast; they're the same thing. Or when they say well she wasn't in every episode etc. None of this is factually correct but it didn't stop @EmpressSisi and when challenged she double-down. As DandyAF showed, Meghan was listed in the opening credits of Suits in every episodes for 7 years. Anyone dismissing that as not meaning that much or not being main cast is being ridiculous.

However MM hadn’t had much success prior to Suits

So? Seriously, so???? That doesn't mean she wouldn't have gone on to more success after Suits! It would be snobby to view her as not a big success because her success 'only' came with Suits.

On this side of the pond, Nicola Coughlin from Derry Girls was 30 when started filming that role. I don't think she did much TV at all before then, I know she did a lot of fringe and off-West End plays. After Derry Girls she went on to be in Bridgerton and lead a season, and now has played the lead at the NT and been in projects with Big Names.

and had nothing lined up as the series drew to its inevitable close.

This doesn't make sense! The series drew to its close two seasons after Meghan left. She came to the Uk to increase her fame, sure, but that was at least a year before she left Suits. So 3 years before it ended. How on earth can you say the series was drawing to its inevitable close at that point? She did 3 more seasons from that point, which is something a lot of actors would kill for.

MM didn’t want to be an actor. She dreamed of being rich and famous

You can't possibly know she didn't want to be an actor and saying that is ludicrous. Her main aim may have been to be rich and famous, I won't argue on that, but that doesn't mean she also didn't want to be an actor. She studied theatre at university. As someone else said I think, if she just wanted to be famous she could have tried getting parts without going to university.

No-one is criticising genuine actors

So you decide who is genuine or not do you? This is innately snobby. What's your criteria, a well-known traditional drama school, but one that you have heard of even if there's better ones you haven't heard of? I've got lots of acting mates who you may probably disregard as not genuine. Someone who has done seven years as main cast in a reasonably well-regarded populist TV series is a genuine actor purely by having done that work.

You’ve interpreted my post very differently from the spirit in which it was written so I think we’ll just have to leave it there. I meant no offence to you or your industry.
