Can we allow Harry and Meghan a clean sheet

Just that really.

When they come back should we just judge them by their future behaviour, not the past and try to be positive.

After the events of the last few days with Jason Arday it might help the RF if the media and social media allowed them to get on with things in a positive way. Frankly the only person who should be aggrieved is the Princess of Wales and maybe the King but he clearly want peace now what with his illness.

Let’s see if they can be positive and an asset to the UK and the RF.

So you are OK with a man with minimal education who can't manage his personal or charity finances, who loses to lawsuits at the drop of a hat, serving as an advisor to the minor heir to the throne when George has his father, Anne, Edward, and loads more qualified people to advise him.

We elected someone who I felt was unqualified twice, who chose bad advisors, and our economy has gone to shit and we are embroiled in a unnecessary war. The people who elected him are finding out that the food banks are running out of food in the middle of the month, they have no help after natural disasters, nuns wearing their religious habits are arrested on the streets on the way to Sunday mass. Oh, crops are rotting in the fields because there is no one to pick them. Go ahead, follow our model. Bring in incompetents to run your country.

Excellent points.
There is no way that any government will let Harry have any proximity to power or decision making, fortunately.

I think @JudgeJ's point was that when Charles dies, William becomes King, which makes George the heir to the throne.

If Charles does pass away in the next 2-3 years, George would be the heir while still being a minor.

But William ain't dying anytime soon! He's only 44! George will very likely be older than William is now when he ends up on the throne himself. He will not be a minor when he becomes King.

I don't recall anyone being concerned about William and Harry being minors... Charles was 'next in line to the throne' ever since they were born...

Saying he was ‘ hounded to death’ by the press is a bit of a joke, isn’t it. It would be funny, if it didn’t by inference minimise all the endurance by all the individuals who have been hounded by the press and carried on existing, and being true to themselves.

Thank you. You have put it way better than I could have (probably due the feathers I’m spitting).

You do know that the King has nothing to do with running the country right?

Even if Harry was a guardian to George on the throne, its all pomp and circumstance

Danhausenrocks · 20/08/2026 13:50

You'd hope so @BatchCookBabe but no one actually knows

I mean Catherine is only 44 and she's been affected by cancer. Diana was 36 when she died, so you'd hope that William has a long time on the throne so that George can live his own life as he wishes as much as he can.

My first thought was they need to squeeze in as many photo ops with Charles as they can to really drive home their royal connections, so this is a bit of future proofing for their business careers in LA.

They know once Willy gets on the throne they won’t get a look in much less an invite to his coronation. So we all need to prepare ourselves for Harry and Meg clinging to Charles’ coat tails - wonder if they’re hoping for Christmas at Sandringham.

Get the popcorn.

Why wouldn't they be invited to the coronation? Did William tell you that?

Why do so many people think they know how complete strangers are feelings?

Catherine is in remission, and will likely live many years yet, and Diana died in a tragic accident.

George is already 13, William is not about to die. George not going to be a minor on the throne.

Who exactly is stopping you mentioning alledging that? Doesn't seem like anything or anyone else is.

Really, JA, not his fault he was a liar and a conman. Dare to say he was any of those things and you are called racist. Mention that Meghan is a liar, a hypocrite or a nasty piece of work and you are only saying it because you are racist and the pattern continues.

It’s not ‘obsessed’ to be utterly sick of a pair of dicks who happily spaffed several million of taxpayer money on a bells and whistles wedding and grand tour around the Windsor peasantry, ungratefully housed by the crown, damaged the reputation of the monarchy whilst sticking two fingers up to this country and now want to come crawling back to be close to our official Head of State. Is it all rose tinted and unicorns
in your world?

Definitely not. But my point stands - those are mainly fundamental problems with the monarchy, not just these two.

If you accept the principle of the monarchy - which is basically do what you like sir/ma'am, funded by us directly and/or unimaginable wealth built and hoarded over centuries through an iniquitous social order - the rest is really none of your business and out of your hands.

Bread and circuses, innit.

Rhaidimiddim · 20/08/2026 13:57

How could anyone with a reputation to lose - i.e. most of the RF - even be comfortable chatting to them again? She is the SIL from hell, but with a world stage rather that a family WhatsApp group to work with. Also, all the leaking.

I foresee the end of the traditional family get-togethers at Balmoral and Sandringham, with a fragmenting of the wider family into those who will tolerate HAM for KC3's sake, and those who won't.

Remember that picture of Catherine with her husband, children, parents and brother at the bottom of Snowdonia? I said here at the time that it seemed a very pointed statement - as KC3 was planning the last visit with H - from W&C, a reminder that KC3 isn't their only family.

unsync · 20/08/2026 13:59

Why should they get a clean slate? Are they not accountable for what they have said and done?

My hope is that they will STFU and lead quiet lives and not court the media. It's a long shot based on past behaviour and track record though. The hope is they'll go and live in seclusion near Uncle Andy.

Sorry, but no. Actions have consequences.

The world isn’t going to forget their lies or their utter contempt for their families, nor should it.

You can’t behave like that and expect everyone to just move on.

Edited

Quite.

AnitaCam · 20/08/2026 13:59

It wouldn't be possible to ever be relaxed around MegHarry, knowing they could distort your words on Oprah at a later date. Nope!

Lampzade · 20/08/2026 14:00

Whether people like it or not , if they do come back it is because they are needed , trust me ?
The’ powers that be ‘ know that other senior royals are not up to scratch . It is really as simple as that
I hope for their sake that it is just a rumour and they don’t come back after the heinous way they were treated
Archie and Lillibet would be better off in the US

Soft power. Trump gave the UK very low tariffs because he likes Charles, William, and Catherine so much. Look at the tariffs against countries that pissed him off. Your 10 percent is much lower than other countries.

Thinking about the op's question...I suppose it depends what happens next. Are they going to settle quietly into living their lives under the radar or are they going to be courting publicity, smirking at celebrity photoshoots and dishing out fatuous word salads to whatever crowd is sucked into inviting them? If they knuckle down and put some time and effort into those charities they supposedly support then yes, I could quite easily ignore what's happened in the past and let them crack on. No posed visits to children's hospitals, no red carpet shenanigans, no soap opera antics. A sort of don't-speak-until-spoken-to sort of life. Yup. Let's see.

Given that they began this by making a grand announcement in People Magazine, no, no that is not their plan.

But who knows how much is true. Last month we had the ridiculous faff about Harry staying at Buckingham Palace which was a big lie he put out to try and force his way in there. For all we know they haven’t even applied to schools for the children yet and think they can get places for them via news leaks.

The heir to the throne is William.

Not when Charles dies.

WallaceinAnderland · 20/08/2026 14:02

You reap what you sow.

If they change their ways and start laying better foundations, they may get better results. It's entirely in their hands.

People are judged on what the have said, and what they have done.
Harry and Meghan have no exemption on this.
The Jason Arday case was tragic, but very different indeed. No parallels.

Or, maybe, we just shouldn’t judge people, least of all when we don’t know them.

PropertyD · 20/08/2026 14:04

Yes, if they go and live quietly but no way with MM do this. She is out to make trouble and it will be all about how she is picked on and of course she wont be able to help herself - the racism card.

I wouldnt trust either of them. Another book perhaps? I wouldnt put it past MM to actually secretly record private conversations and then reveal them at a later date.

At the beginning the wedding was truly wonderful. But due to her behaviour and him following her lead it all started going wrong, the Oprah interview, the book, the documentaries. The endless interviews.

Shame on them.

We don’t have to judge people but we very much judge actions. I am sure it’s innate in human nature and a survival instinct.

“I was so happy when they met and got married. I wanted all the love in the world for them. More fool me.”

Exactly this. The UK were pretty welcoming of Meghan as proven by the public support surrounding their wedding. At that point Harry was possibly the most popular royal and we wanted to see him happy.

The press started turning after Archie was born and they became secretive about godparents and stuff. And then all the woe is me and big Diana eyes and porky pies from Meghan, and it snowballed from there. Oprah was a low point, the book sealed their fate around the time Philip died and the Queen got poorly.

It pisses me off when people say it was racism. If it had been it would’ve been from day dot and it wasn’t. A convenient card to play, however.

What did they do wrong anyway apart from her security dramas

I think the turning point was “No one asks how I’m doing.”
