@jeffgoldblum Thank you so much. I think my separation from DH (after 38 years) is a tale that truly shows that we never know where life may take us and that even the most (apparently) rock solid marriage can develop fatal cracks.

Yes it does, I hope you are doing ok ? , I won’t pry , I imagine the shock and change is more than enough without the emotional baggage added on top .
if it helps know I’m thinking of you and wishing only the best for you, from over here in the U.K. ❤️

You have to laugh at the 'international bases'. They never disappoint with the delusions of grandeur!

As I've said before, I don't believe they own a home in Portugal, though they might get to visit Jack Brooksbank's development as part of a promotional deal. If they're keeping the house in Montecito, I reckon that means Meghan will spend a lot of time there. They're not at the level of wealth to be able to afford maintenance for several luxury properties.

I do think they could be 'soft launching' a separation.

I guess Meghan's always welcome at a branch of Soho House, maybe that's what's being referred to by "international bases"

Noodledog · 20/08/2026 14:25

I agree. But she was obviously very unhappy in the UK, whether or not the "almost driven to suicide" was complete bollocks. I can't understand her motivation for wanting A and L sent to schools that will be full of the kind of aristocracy (the non Hollywood kind) that she loathes.

Honestly, I can fully understand H wanting to return to the UK. Meghan's motivation baffles me. It's a humiliation for her, whatever positive spin may be put on it.

This is my confusion too.
it’s easy to see Harry’s motivation but what is in it for Meghan.
unless she is genuinely worried about his mental health and has decided she’ll take the hit.

Just a musing. If KC gives them Royal roles (which I do think he will) can KW rescind them all when he takes the throne ?

I really can’t see them having Royal roles. KC may be sentimental but he is not stupid . Nor are the MIGS .

Agree with the soft launching of a split. Which weirdly, shows maybe they are trying be quite adult about things.

I think priority number one will be to get the kids settled, then work out from there, who’s operating from which ‘international base’

She’s obviously being forced

  • money reasons
  • Harry’s mental health etc

Though why should his MH come at the expense of hers? this is why it’s a disaster for her to come

Well if Portugal is in the frame as one of the bases there's possibly a Visa complication there..

As I recall it Portugal used to do a special Visa for those prepared to pay, but other than that the 90 in 180 rule applies both to H and M.

I cannot believe M would leave the children here and return to the UK if there was a divorce.

Doria disappeared for a long time when she was a child.

Edited

But Doria wasn't marketing herself as a domestically inclined trad wife or saying 'my most important job is mom'. I too can't imagine Meghan would do something as drastic (for most mothers) as moving to live on a different continent from her young children. However, if she is as mercenary as that, there's the other problem that it will hurt her brand. Either way it's not a good outcome for her.

Still puzzling me too. The history of the last six years at least has not shown her being willing to take the hit. Quite the reverse. I'm curious about what's in this for her, as surely there must be something. I really hope it's not 'Charles has offered them a big wedge of his own cash'.

I feel they burned a lot of bridges in the USA with Spotify, Netflix etc so they're simply running away. A new country is a new start and they're not bogged down by failures and rumours. It's also harder to pursue them legally regarding any contractual obligations they may have failed to fulfil.

It's no different to people who run dodgy business ventures into the ground in the UK and then move to Dubai to start over.

Edited

There is absolutely nothing left for them in US. OW latest interview was very damning. They are such a toxic brand it is actually quite unbelievable how badly they have failed

I agree that there must have been something major for Meghan to return.

Harry clearly misses his home country, but Meghan seemed to hate it here and never showed any interest in returning until this summer. And while I don't think 'As Ever' is a serious business or source of income, it is tied to Meghan flouncing around her Cali garden and products are only sold domestically.

Possible reasons she might agree to come back?

  • money problems, although there are surely other solutions to that.
  • a hope to wrangle some kind of HIHO
  • Harry insisting on it, though with the kids resident in California there's no way he could take them out without her consent
  • 'soft launching' a separation

Could be some combination of all the above. Or something entirely different. But this is definitely a turn up for the books!

ETA These two are known for rash decisions. Their decision to leave was one o them. Clearly zero thought put into it. This could be similar.

JoanChitty · 20/08/2026 15:10

I see Rob shuter has said that she will be coming on a six month trial basis.

IcedPurple · 20/08/2026 15:12

I'm also wondering how much Harry's latest legal failures factor into this? He could potentially be on the hook for many millions, and there's little or no money coming in. Whatever way you look at it, finances have to be a major part of this decision.

ShamedBySiri · 20/08/2026 15:13

PP mentioning they are “haemorrhaging money” - it’s quite funny to think that this has definitely been said on more than one occasion, more than one thread, going back at least two years I should think as their income/earning power has been compared to their heavy outgoings. But I don’t think any of us predicted this catastrophic haemorrhage? Two years ago was just a scratch needing a bandaid!

AtIusvue · 20/08/2026 15:14

Yes, nothing seems to make sense.
Even their supporters are stumped for reasons of why they would do this. It’s obvious to no one but themselves.

I suspect the press will be all guns blazing trying to find out the real reason. The ANL costs award due imminently will surely be a big part of that. But like you said @IcedPurple - there are ways around that, that doesn’t mean you have to uproot your entire life and family.

I suspect there maybe a few leaks from the friendship group in California who might feel a little spurned by the abrupt move.

When was the last OW interview? I think I must have missed that one.

I've been looking back at some of the posts on the 'Reconciliation' threads from last year.

One of the possibilities discussed was Harry returning to the UK because of mental health issues, living somewhere in the country and gradually being rehabilitated on the edges of the family over a few years ...

I could see this being a viable reason. In the Netflix series it was clear how focused/involved he was with the legal cases.

The losses in respect of RAVEC and ANL plus the forthcoming Sentebale Case may well have negatively impacted his mental health.

Richard Eden reporting that this has been ongoing for some time. An establishment plot to bring them back into the fold

So an establishment stitch up then?
Nice when those stitch ups work in your favour Harry, thank the heavens for the establishment.
And if anyone says different it will be whitewashed. 🙄

Nothing more to add other than that at least Edward VIII had the decency to stay in Paris. Bringing the circus back to the UK after Oprah and Spare is next level.

I believe Portugal still offers a Golden Visa, Spain has withdrawn them. You used to be able to get one if you owned property over a certain value but now I think it has to be in investments. Would investment in a property business count I wonder?

Going to read that now but this from Tom Sykes is interesting:

According to experts in the field, the calendar of their departure and return is, from a U.K. tax perspective, pretty much perfect, if the goal was to minimize tax liabilities.

I think that was because he was told to. The RF had the backing of the government at the time because of his Nazi connections.

Also he received an annual allowance from the then King which was probably conditional on him staying away.
