Meghan’s new life in the UK: what the Duchess will do

Yes, @Lifestooshort71, I had a brief look elsewhere but I'm sticking to here and the ANL thread at present.

What do other celebrities do about their security?

I just wonder if KC knew they were in deep shit and needed a massive handout, so when he met Harry on his own, he handed him an agreement. He would pay for schooling (in the UK), they would get legal fees paid from his personal pot, and an agreed allowance/costs covered if they were back in the UK, and lived by his rules.

The call on Sunday was Harry saying yes we accept (have no money so have no option), and we'll be over before the end of the month.

All guesswork of course!

This is probably near the mark, I reckon. I can also imagine this with some minor adjustments. Imagine that HAM told Charles at the Highgrove meeting that they wanted to return but asked him not to mention it yet as they weren't ready to announce. Even though they've been shockingly free with everyone else's personal information, this would still be difficult for Charles to refuse, especially since there have been accusations about the palace leaking too and he won't want to give HAM reason to start that up again. They also probably asked for a bailout perhaps including housing in the UK, and he or the MIGS might have decided to offer something on that basis with conditions attached as the best of some bad options. And as part of the whole arrangement he's kept quiet about it until now. I imagine the Waleses were brought up to speed but also on the quiet.

Pay for it.

bluegreygreen · 20/08/2026 20:36

Pay for it.

Exactly. Then there shouldn't be an issue for 4 private citizens

ShamedBySiri · 20/08/2026 20:39

Somewhat misleading headline as I’m pretty sure there were many more instances than those mentioned in the article, but anyway, a brief refresher of some past complaints.

Best thing to do is take away their royal status along with AMW.

Let them weep all they want into the Netflix cameras about the unfairness of it all.

ShamedBySiri · 20/08/2026 20:45

I feel sure they will be staying at Althorp, which will mean there is a certain level of security and privacy free of charge.
Somewhat ironic that the Earl should offer them a sanctuary when he wouldn’t do the same for his sister. He will probably come to regret it - they will overstep boundaries, make demands and be impossible to get rid of.

Not sure what good schools are handy for Althorp?

Also, assuming wherever they go will be rented/loaned and by definition temporary - A&L will probably have another school change by September 2027.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/08/2026 20:48

BigWillyLittleTodger · 20/08/2026 19:33

It’s Trooping the Colour not “the Trooping if the Colour” and they didn’t get booed by the general public at all just the lovely not my King lot, nice to do that to children.

Oh I absolutely agree. But my point is that there is booing. It may extend to M&H, though possibly from a different direction...

What makes you think that? Charles Spencer barely has contact with some of his own children and grandchildren. Why would he want an attention seeking family of 4 on his estate?

Besides, it's open to the public so not really 'private'.

VictorianScreenTime · 20/08/2026 20:50

Cismyfatarse · 20/08/2026 20:16

“social media and bullying being particular interests of Meghan and Harry’s”- love this quote! 😂

BigWillyLittleTodger · 20/08/2026 20:55

Lifestooshort71 · 20/08/2026 20:02

I'm going to keep a low profile with all this. Obviously I will be interested to see where they settle, schools, etc, but I can't be doing with all the speculating and guessing. There are some really mean posts elsewhere 😱 (and who are these posters, where have they all been hiding!). This has always been a fairly balanced thread - think I'll just pop in places where I feel comfy!

Yes I agree having had a read of the other threads, it’s like Megzit and the where is Kate threads all over again, hopefully we can just continue with our normal discussions on here without all the noise!

Charles Spencer can hire Harry as a tour guide 😁.

If HAM are so concerned about security, they should not publicize the kids's school and first day. George might appreciate a quiet first day at Eton if the press are photographing the Hamlets.

Justdancevance · 20/08/2026 21:08

I disagree, the Ham’s should say Archie is starting a new school in a new country and would love the space to help him settle in, instead of paying cat and mouse for drama and clicks,

They need to follow William and Catherine’s lead and have an adult and truthful relationship with the Press

I hope their kids settle with their parents help and thrive in their new environment. Hopefully a school thst best suits them is chosen rather than one whose parents Meghan hopes to befriend

Althorp is only open to the public for a limited period from July 1st to August 31st so it will be closed by the time H&M return to these shores. The Earl kindly arranged for it to be closed the weekend they were here in July.

Sure he’s no/low contact with several of his children but he seems to have a soft spot for Harry. Though it’s true, I don’t get the impression he is a particularly generous man so it would be uncharacteristically kind to offer them a house on the estate (doesn’t mean he has to offer it for free).

I suspect that may have had to do with filming for the purported NF 'documentary'.

Really? What's the evidence for that?

And there's a massive difference between having a 'soft spot' for someone and offering a free home to them, their wife and two young children. That's a huge commitment, especially with all the drama and attention that goes with the Sussexes.

PullTheBricksDown · 20/08/2026 21:23

On the tax situation, came across these comments on X from someone who would appear to know about it:

Good to see Harry and Meghan achieve 6 full tax years of non-UK residency to manage the “temporary non-resident” rules for capital gains tax 😬

They have clearly had some good tax advice and the timing of their move back to the UK is immaculate 👌

But if they could have stuck it out for a few more years, they should have been able to access the “Foreign Income and Gains” regime - 4-year tax holiday on overseas sources and 10-year protection for inheritance tax on overseas assets - was this bit of the advice missing?

ShamedBySiri · 20/08/2026 21:24

And possibly CS is repairing relations with some of his own offspring. He only has the one grandchild via his eldest daughter Lady Kitty. He has a Shetland pony for the grandchild so presumably has some contact with her.

They won't do that. Unfortunately the hamlets are worth merching.

Starryfifty · 20/08/2026 21:26

I think a statement from palace is needed. When the foursome arrive. Make it very clear that HAM are private citizens and not part of the working royal family.

StartupRepair · 20/08/2026 21:30

I think as the US has basically closed doors on them, they are fondly remembering the positive crowds and great reception they got in the UK when Meghan was first on the scene and assuming they will get the same warmth from the public. Conveniently forgetting all the things they have said and done in the intervening 6 years.
I don't see the point of Portugal. Seems like a sterile resort development. They have no friends there and no connection to the actual country or culture.
Unless the Tindalls are told to take one for the team, I don't think there will be much socialising. Zara was very close to her grandparents and would have views on how Harry's behaviour affected them.

ShamedBySiri · 20/08/2026 21:30

He has kept in touch with Harry and supported him, eg turning up to the invictus service at St Paul’s in 2024 (along with his sister Lady Sarah Fellowes). No royals attended the service for obvious reasons.
But yes, it would be very generous to have them land on the estate with all the problems that follow them wherever they go. But they appear to be in cahoots currently.

Time will tell.

Seems to me an obvious merching deal with Jack Brooksbank's resort. I doubt they actually own a property there, though they may have the use of one in return for promoting the development.
