Why is Dan Wootton so obsessed and full of hatred for Harry & Meghan?

i recently listened to Spare on audible - purely because it was free and I was interested to see what he had to say. ( most of it was boring self indulgent crap imo)
predictably the algorithms have filled my YouTube with H &M stuff!

it seems there is a daily barrage of videos from DW about them, such vitriol from this man. It’s unhinged!
I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m no fan of theirs at all but Jesus he acts like they murdered his granny.
He’ll post a picture of one of them literally smiling and turn it into a massive conspiracy theory about smirking at the Queen on her deathbed or some utter nonsense

I think that Harry/Megan are an easy form of free content, they are easy to make a 20 minute programme about, everything can be rumour or speculation-
Megan’s child was born to a surrogate! Megan & Harry are divorcing!
Megan & Harry were have fallen out with their hairdresser! Etc etc.

Well he’s got his platform but he was fired from the OG GB News. Doesn’t get much lower rent.

DW makes out that Meghan Markle’s father is this lovely cuddly dad.
I am not a fan of H&M but Meghan to be fair tends to stick to home ground now so how she makes her living there doesn’t bother me.
One thing I do feel for her over are those awful half-siblings who are just terrible.
DW is irrelevant. He was a showbiz reporter it’s not like he’s Hugo Vickers.

H&M are very clickable because they collect a lot of ‘marmite’ followers - those that love them and those that dislike them.

Clicks don’t care about love or hate - so content makers make easy click bait content that attracts both the lovers and the haters and make money.

I’m not sure I would bother ‘ranting’ over the treatment of someone I wasn’t a fan of.

Rather than draw any attention to anyone involved, I’d probably just glide on by.

That said, on being the topic of discussion all the time, I believe Beverley Macca may have been much maligned by Denise Royle and would quite enjoy a discussion about that.

The ‘too fat to be a fly’ (used all the time in this house) and ‘flies round shit and she’s the shit’. I do miss Caroline and her observations.

I think I would have really enjoyed an episode of the Royle Family on the Royal Family.

I agree , H and especially M cannot do right for doing wrong, and everything they do is put through the lens of “How Awful” they are.

They are wrong to live in the US, they were wrong to try and show up W &C when they lived in the UK. They are an embarrassment if they try to earn money, and whining scroungers to be in the firm.
They can’t win, and some frankly nut jobs, need to take a long hard look at themselves and get a life of their own.

YouTube is full of people making a living obsessively commenting on someone else's life. Dan Wotton's focus is the Sussexes but there are many other "content creators" who make a living off the backs of other celebrities. The best thing to do is refuse to click on the videos but it is all a sad indictment of society.

You can ‘block’ entire channels on YouTube, did you know? I can thoroughly recommend it as a feature.

I think Royal commentary as a job seems to attract the most hideous types of people unfortunately, because so many of them are blatantly mercenary.

Have you ever known a more gruesome type of individual than your average royal correspondent or commentator? Nicolas Witchell, Richard Eden, the ludicrous Mark Dolan, and the boorish Matt Wilkinson, to name just a few.

From the out and out sycophants like Gyles Brandreth to the opportunists such as Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, they are all so grim!

Dan Wootten is utterly ghastly obviously but at least he is overtly awful! There are so many so-called semi-respectable journalists and journalists who spend their lives wanging on about H & M because it’s an easy source of income. It’s so cynical and as you say Op, H&M are an easy hit.

Many call themselves journalists but have to bow and scrape in order to be trusted with palace access! And one or two have admitted on air that palace staff were cross with them when they stepped slightly out of line. That is really not reporting in any true sense of the word if you are simply an empty vessel through which BP spread their PR.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry historian who wants to up their book sales writes about the RF (Andrew Lownie excepted because I think he is genuinely interested in truth telling and investigating cover ups and holding the institution accountable.) And H&M specifically seem to be particularly lucrative subjects to write about!

I was surprised to see that even the Rev Richard Coles is one of the hosts of a podcast about the Royals and is commenting on William and Harry, when I thought he was a friend of Charles Spencer?

It seems no one is immune to the lure of filthy lucre and there appears to be in-fighting between them all too, as a story about Richard Eden outlined in Private Eye recently.

I think another part of this is strategic unfortunately. I don’t agree with everything H&M have done, but I believe that it suits many people currently in power, to keep negative opinion focused on them
and their supposed betrayal, to divert attention away from Andrew’s antics and the subsequent pay off and cover up; which is what Harry was complaining about in Spare originally!

A lot of people never stop talking about them and it’s so boring.

I would love MM to add some Royale stardust to WLM and introduce DairyLea on toast as a substantial main meal - then elevated with the following options:

YouTubers and the PR from and material about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are entirely avoidable, tbf - just like I manage to avoid clicking on threads, ploughing through posts, watching videos and reading online articles about lots of people in the public eye.

It doesn’t mean I have a right to shut down other people’s opinions on them. Or falsely accuse people who are interested in them of holding prejudices and bigotries that they don’t. I just avoid, and let others have their freedom of expression as per the First Amendment and British mores.

It’s why I like MN so much, well mostly. Its Talk Guidelines are pretty clear, if posters take the trouble to read them.
