Here we bloody go again. I hope KC nips it in the bud one way or the other.

It’s certainly damn quick work managing to worm themselves back into favour à la prodigal son.

AtIusvue · 15/07/2026 14:39

No, that’s not how it works. That’s just admin.

The reality is huge amounts of money is used to campaign for nominations. The right people speaking to the right people, to get the nomination.

Then, if they achieve that….even more money is used for the win.

It’s ALL about how much money you have and using your network.

It’s always bought and paid for- even for good shows. It’s just glaringly obvious with Meg because the show was universally panned by critics and outside of the first series, was a ratings flop. So everyone can clearly see, this nomination is not based on merit.

If by 'bought and paid for' you simply mean money was spent campaigning, promoting the nomination and speaking to the right people, that's standard practice in many industries. But that's very different from saying the nomination itself was bought which was the commenrs I was reaponding to.

By your logic, every election is 'bought and paid for' because political parties spend millions on campaigning before we vote. Most of us wouldn't say we were bought we simply considered the arguments and made our own decision.

Why should awards voters be assumed to be any different? Campaigning can increase visibility and influence opinions, but it doesn't automatically mean the outcome lacked merit or was purchased.

Starryfifty · 15/07/2026 15:14

But I'm sure there's no way Meg would drag herself and her children to UK and leave Doria alone at Xmas.

Not unless she can lead the procession .
But I don’t believe for one minute they will be invited . If they are we won’t see the Wales family and possibly not the Tindalls .

What is the matter with my post? I just said it is not published fact that harry and meghan are horrible people. It is just opinion. I don't know what jumping the shark means. And why do you think I am shutting down criticism, I would say completely the opposite and you are trying to get rid of posters who don't agree with you or others on this thread. If there are certain rules for this particular thread I wouldn't mind knowing them, do I need to ask mumsnet themselves.
I agree they should be criticised for some things but nowhere is it an established fact agreed by everyone that they are horrible people.

As said earlier I credit the Middletons for this. I read somewhere years ago that when Kate started bringing William home to visit as her boyfriend, Michael Middleton got William to wash his car for him. The benefit of being treated like a normal boyfriend and then family member has been massive.

That’s very interesting -hardly the behaviour of dreadful social climbers who would do anything to snare a Prince is it.
I have never believed or liked that awful speculation.
The Middletons are a very close family who made their own money and have not changed- even though they must have all had their lives turned upside down by their daughter falling in love with the Prince of Wales eldest son.
I bet Carole is a lovely granny.

Thanks for engaging with the robust debate

I would say in return that many people outside of these particular threads hold different views, on other platforms for example, and some of course rather depressingly follow the Daily Mail narrative, and it’s quite arrogant for a few people who continually post from one perspective about H & M and the other royals, not to acknowledge the different perspective of others. Or even that they exist!

To “us” and I use that term loosely to mean republicans but each of us hold individual stances, you are the cat haters! Because we don’t see the RF in the same way or think they deserve any higher respect than any other person, and so a lot of what H & M have supposed to have done, just goes over the top of our heads.

It’s not about right or wrong it’s about different perspectives.

To use a concrete example, that excerpt in the Netflix series where Meghan does the mock fancy curtsey is indeed excruciating to a UK royalist’s eye when you see it clipped out of context. It looks like she is making fun of everything royal. It looks impertinent at face value. That’s perspective one, And that clip has been used again and again to “prove” her arrogance and disrespect.

Some of us who don’t give a toss about royal protocol weren’t horrified and could understand why someone who grew up in California would find it baffling why people would curtsey to one another in private (which I think was the point she was making at that particular moment). That’s perspective two.

Those of us who don’t care about curtseying at all and think it is disrespectful in itself to have someone’s supposed innate value so starkly demonstrated and compared to that of another human being. That’s perspective three.

And finally, those of us who didn’t have any skin in either game, bothered to watch until the end of the clip where actually it’s clear that Meghan, although not very clearly, is sending up herself and confirmed that by saying, “I didn’t have a clue what I was doing!” That’s perspective four.

How polite of you 🫨

No, I won't 'get over myself'. It's unpleasant to talk of little children like this on a parenting forum.

This is a long running series of threads, we don’t need our language or how we express ourselves policing thank you very much, particularly from someone who has never posted on these threads before.

Is this Omid ??

Thedom · 15/07/2026 15:34

This is exactly what I mean, I am not a monarchist by any means and I would never be curtseying to anyone, but it doesn’t matter who or what you support, but that pantomime mockery of a curtsey was beyond rude, it was used to diminish the act of showing respect to the Queen and tradition. In a similar vein the ‘doors to manual’ to mock William’s mother in law was horribly rude and demeaning .

You don’t have to be a monarchist to find mocking and dismissive gestures and comments rude, most decent people would, and did, find it offensive.

It’s so telling the kind of characters who are supporters of H&M and who make excuses for their bullying and insulting behaviour., it appears they see nothing wrong with it as they possibly behave in a similar manner themselves .

Manymanyyearsago · 15/07/2026 15:37

That's me told then! 🤣😂😅
Didn't realise it was a closed shop on here!

Could I say "get over yourself" as was said to me?!

Well quite!
i have now decided I’m too tired and too old to debate something that I have already debated 5 years ago and ongoing, just because someone wants to rock up now and debate it like it’s new!

Yes, that’s you told, you opinions on HAM are welcome but telling other posters what they can and cannot say is not.

Even if it's rude to me?

I've been told I have lacking comprehension skills and to get over myself on here and I think I can say I found that a little bit rude
Never mind different strokes for different folks I suppose 🤷‍♂️

Thedom · 15/07/2026 15:51

Okay, I guess that is you told then 🙂. but taking it to a very basic level, there is no one I know who would allow their kids mock someone in cultural traditional dress, for example, or mock someone setting up a prayer mat to pray, or mock any cultural tradition or practice.

Thats actually what Meghan did, she made a public mockery of a cultural Royal tradition, whether she agreed with it or not. Even my kids would know better than to do something like that.

jeffgoldblum · 15/07/2026 15:51

Seems to be a distinct lack of discussion surrounding the new revelation that Harry likes to test non consenting women by putting white pills on their tongues!!
instead it’s stuff dredged up from years ago.

Oh yeah, and one of the ‘bad things’ he conveniently left out of Spare, ‘how I got women to prove their loyalty to me’ pop them a pill and see how compliant they become.

Would someone who grew up in California also find it baffling to be announced to an empty room in New York by their British courtesy peerage title?

Because I certainly find it baffling. Why would anyone do that? You'd have to be really obsessed with perceived status and prestige.

The more we find out about the Prince of “England” the more revolting a person he reveals himself to be, I can see why he is friendly with the Yorks, birds of a feather and all that.

Indeed! , this new revelation really puts the ..but Andrew comments on shaky footing! , what other revelations will come out I wonder? And will the cheerleaders admit that they were wrong? , ignore it? Or double down? 🤔
