Opinions are like fish, everyone have those they like and those they don’t! And once they get old , they tend to smell bad.

Yeah I agree and a lot of yours stink too Jeffgoldblum

HurrahforHollywood · 15/07/2026 13:58

She's looking for any excuse to sour relations again isn't she?

And I for one disagree that H & M are horrible people, None of us know them so can’t make that judgement. Our impression of them is viewed through a prism of edited books for sake, edited interviews for sale, You tube videos and podcasts made for likes and subscribers and so on. Everyone has an angle. Even publishers of autobiographies and literary agents.

Even if they are they not very nice people they are not the equivalent of the anti-Christ equivalent they are made out to be on here! All of the relentless nit-picking, jeering and nastiness heaped on them every day is totally disproportionate to what they have actually done.

I think if people were exercising good comprehension skills they would come to the conclusion that not everything that H & M does = bad and not everything that KC & C, and W & C do is good! That is not the way the world works in reality, Especially as we know that every time the curtain is pushed back on royal housing or finances, some serious dodginess has been discovered eg King Charles and his bags of cash and the cash for honours enquiry and a well known valet taking the fall three times and then being bought a house in Highgate.

They are all dodgy to varying degrees! Harry is just more honest about it! He said the whole point of writing Spare was to put all of the bad out there about himself because all of the journos write about it relentlessly anyway, And I admire him for that. Even though all the material from the book is now used as a stick to beat him with. The RF on the other hand, rarely admit to getting things wrong!

Edited

Commend you on a balanced post which is rare. I agree with you noone is 100% bad or 100% good.

Whilst I might not have personally made the choice Harry did about the book he was upfront that is why he did it, get it all out there as you say. All the bad, and some of it is bad. Bit naive because as you say its now used as a stick to beat him with at times.

Fair enough, most TV & Movie awards have the same process of subnit and pay a fee to cover the costs of administrating everything and then a panel of people decide who gets through. So simply saying they paid x amount doesn't equate to buying an award.

Yes I heard on the That’s Entertainment podcast that it takes a lot of campaigning and campaign money, and years of PR manoeuvres, to get a film nominated for an Oscar for example.

I disagree everything we see about HaM has been put out there by them and curated by them and they still
come across as awful.
The Oprah interview.
The book that Harry wrote about himself.
The podcasts that Meghan produced for herself
The instagram posts

i could go on

Meanwhile, Meghan is 'fuming' that people apparently might suggest that she and Harry are using their children to try ti get additional security.

Story in the Express (archive link) https://archive.is/7ayQl
taken from the original story in Closer (archive link) https://archive.is/nbDXK - dated Monday, but apparently written before their visit with the King, where the 'source' appears to suggest she thinks the story is coming from the palace

What makes it a thousand times worse is that she’s sure that a lot of this ugly narrative is being sanctioned, or even pushed, by people behind the palace walls, that truly sickens her.

She’s a devious, scheming bint isn’t she?

Thx for yr post, I agree with it.

I dont know where it is actual fact that harry and meghan are horrible people. It is not proven at all and to say otherwise is just very odd. If that was the case we could say it is fact that donald trump is a horrible person, but hang on he has a lot of supporters out there (unfortunately!)
Yes they all are dodgy to varying degrees, and harry and meghan are treated as if they worse than andrew. Which is extremely wrong.

As is your right! , however rocking up to a long running series of threads and disagreeing with and saying the opinions of 99.5 percent of the people posting is wrong is extremely arrogant! What do you expect?
it is akin to barrelling onto the litter tray , declaring they are all wrong you hate cats and that dogs are superior!
how would you expect that to go? , do you think they would cheerfully agree? Or would they tell you “to do one!”

You are really jumping the shark with this post!!
it’s been used as an excuse for many years as a means to shut down criticism!
it’s old now and doesn’t work anymore, if you don’t know the details then please go back and read all the details posted over the years as to why they are criticised , if you can’t be bothered fine! But don’t expect anyone but other random posters who also turn up uniformed to agree with you.

LipglossAndLies · 15/07/2026 14:31

I would of thought people would be able to discuss different opinions and perspectives maturely given that we are not children. Having the maturity to understand that other people don't share the same thoughts, views, opinions and that's okay and to address their points without resorting to a certain level or just accept that's their view and not engage.

But that's just me and how I choose to behave.

What is the matter with my post? I just said it is not published fact that harry and meghan are horrible people. It is just opinion. I don't know what jumping the shark means. And why do you think I am shutting down criticism, I would say completely the opposite and you are trying to get rid of posters who don't agree with you or others on this thread. If there are certain rules for this particular thread I wouldn't mind knowing them, do I need to ask mumsnet themselves.
I agree they should be criticised for some things but nowhere is it an established fact agreed by everyone that they are horrible people.

It certainly takes a particular mindset to suggest that the palace is pushing a specific narrative while at the same time organising a visit, @Tiddlywinks63.

No, that’s not how it works. That’s just admin.

The reality is huge amounts of money is used to campaign for nominations. The right people speaking to the right people, to get the nomination.

Then, if they achieve that….even more money is used for the win.

It’s ALL about how much money you have and using your network.

It’s always bought and paid for- even for good shows. It’s just glaringly obvious with Meg because the show was universally panned by critics and outside of the first series, was a ratings flop. So everyone can clearly see, this nomination is not based on merit.

Get what all out there? A load of revelations that no journalist would ever have been able to get hold of, let alone print, because we have privacy laws and press regulations in this country, and people do actually keep their mouths shut - as we have seen in the ANL court case and subsequent revelations, it is Harry who cannot keep his counsel.

And what did he do with his confessional? Drag down a load of people with him, whose privacy, dignity and mental well being he invaded. Off the top of my head: the matron at his school whom he mocked with nasty jibes, Sasha, the woman he described as the older woman he lost his virginity to (she was barely older than him), his brother, his sister in law, their children, numerous journalists and palace officials doing their jobs, his ex girlfriends, Courtney Cox, who I’m sure was delighted to be dragged into his shitty memoir. If there’s a stick he’s been beaten with, he whittled it himself.

And to move seamlessly from 'She'll never set foot in that racist hellhole or meet that racist family again' to 'they're so mean trying to stop her coming to visit the family!' 🤔

I guess it depends what your own moral benchmark is for a horrible person,, Donald Trump would not pass my benchmark for being an okay person based on his actions and rhetoric, so I would say he is not a nice person. Just because he has a lot of supporters of the same ilk as himself is not any great moral benchmark that I would think is worthy of respect.

Andrew and H&M are totally different scenarios, however it is always amusing how HAM supporters use some of the worst people as a standard for Harry and Meghan’s behaviour. Even their critics don’t cite Andrew M W or Trump (new one) as a comparator for why their behaviour is criticised.

Thanks for engaging with the robust debate

I would say in return that many people outside of these particular threads hold different views, on other platforms for example, and some of course rather depressingly follow the Daily Mail narrative, and it’s quite arrogant for a few people who continually post from one perspective about H & M and the other royals, not to acknowledge the different perspective of others. Or even that they exist!

To “us” and I use that term loosely to mean republicans but each of us hold individual stances, you are the cat haters! Because we don’t see the RF in the same way or think they deserve any higher respect than any other person, and so a lot of what H & M have supposed to have done, just goes over the top of our heads.

It’s not about right or wrong it’s about different perspectives.

To use a concrete example, that excerpt in the Netflix series where Meghan does the mock fancy curtsey is indeed excruciating to a UK royalist’s eye when you see it clipped out of context. It looks like she is making fun of everything royal. It looks impertinent at face value. That’s perspective one, And that clip has been used again and again to “prove” her arrogance and disrespect.

Some of us who don’t give a toss about royal protocol weren’t horrified and could understand why someone who grew up in California would find it baffling why people would curtsey to one another in private (which I think was the point she was making at that particular moment). That’s perspective two.

Those of us who don’t care about curtseying at all and think it is disrespectful in itself to have someone’s supposed innate value so starkly demonstrated and compared to that of another human being. That’s perspective three.

And finally, those of us who didn’t have any skin in either game, bothered to watch until the end of the clip where actually it’s clear that Meghan, although not very clearly, is sending up herself and confirmed that by saying, “I didn’t have a clue what I was doing!” That’s perspective four.

Edited

You do know there is video evidence of Meghan curtsying when she took ballet lessons ?
Perhaps protocol was a bit bemusing but she was certainly not mocking herself and she knew how to curtsy .
I have never seen evidence of her being self deprecating but rather she takes herself very seriously .
Interesting to welcome new people to the discussion who are obviously prepared to overlook blatant lies , misogyny, drug taking , bullying etc.

Indianrollerbird · 15/07/2026 15:09

New people, the same people, same drill. Deny, deny, deny all the proven lies, inconsistencies and hypocrisies, and the objectively bad behaviour, then ask why you are talking about things that happened 5 years ago.
