Tina Brown is bang on the money when she says this:

As if he has learned nothing in the last six years of battling with Ravec, Harry went off like an IED when, once again, he was denied official police protection for the family and, as a source close to him briefed, the rug “was pulled out from under their feet at the 11th hour”.
‘What rug? The only rug under the Sussexes is a flying carpet on which they circle the globe in a cloud of persistent delusion.’

I think you are misreading me. It’s how things are in Hollywood with some people. It’s Kardashian culture.

I am not suggesting it’s ok, I’m saying that we don’t like it because we had different… what Americans call “home training”.

Ok, sorry, I just get cross with the pair of them and it was so self centred and disrespectful!

How is the Change.org Remove H from Invictus petition going for those following it ?

I have been unable to sign it, I dont get confirmation email.

Yep. Nobody can sign it oddly enough

Very suspicious as it looks like H is a popular choice! if they cant get 2000 signatures.

It's very strange isn't it?

It isn’t supporting veterans when they have to pay their own costs though.
So who is it supporting and where is the money going?
If it was being wisely spent l wouldnt begrudge a penny. But when a veteran has to pay to get there and their own hotel costs then yes, I do feel mugged.
Invictus isn’t about the veterans. It’s the Harry and Meghan show -and consequently I begrudge every penny.

I had no idea they had to fund their travel and hotels. Where the hell is all the money going, if not on actually supporting the veterans?!

WitlessCheeseEatingPeasant · 30/06/2026 18:31

Do Harry and Meghan also fund their own travels?

Some of what Tina Brown says makes sense, but this paragraph is just irritating:

she said: ‘If Harry thought that bringing his children would force Ravec’s hand, he was, as he is so often, hopelessly misguided. Right now, the Palace is in a crouch position about increased scrutiny of royal finances, thanks to the Andrew Windsor-Mountbatten scandals.

Yes, the AMW scandal is a huge issue for the palace, but that has nothing to so with RAVEC decisions, and shouldn't be conflated with it.

RAVEC is an independent, professional body which makes its own decisions on the information presented to it.
As a professional I have made plenty of difficult decisions, with corresponding private and public consequences. If I sat on the committee I would be furious.

I thought she was saying that even if the palace were inclined to ask RAVEC for security now is not the time to be seen putting money into security for a minor royal who lives abroad. It was more about timing that details of that makes sense.

Very, very good question...

Starryfifty · 30/06/2026 18:39

What's in it for the veterans if they have to pay their own way? What the hell? I assumed they would be taken care of. Then what is the point?

Starryfifty · 30/06/2026 18:42

If I'm coming across as very stupid, please forgive me. Let's say I'm a veteran. I'm living in Germany, I have to pay flights and accommodation to Birmingham, which is quite an expensive city to stay. Why would I do this when I could feck off to a beach in Spain in July 2027? No offence to Birmingham, which is a fab city 😊

WitlessCheeseEatingPeasant · 30/06/2026 18:49

Paying your own way is normal with participating in sport as an adult and even as a kid. I’ve attended fundraisers for people who qualified for Ironman. I’m not bothered by it.

Perhaps they want to join in with other wounded ex service people, bond and challenge themselves. I agree that it's very problematic though and the whole set up needs a proper investigation.

And their family, friends and support teams also have to not just pay their own way flights / accommodation etc - but buy tickets to spectate.

H&M get all ‘expenses’ paid - wonder how long that piece of elastic stretches - so basically he can piggy bank his annual holidays on IG paid for free flights to UK …. he probably chooses to stay in fancy hotels because Well Child and Invictus pay for that as well …. why take up the offer of free accommodation at a royal palace when you can rinse a couple of charities to put your wife and kids up for free on their holibobs -

It’s not just participating in a sport.
Haven’t you heard of the millions being ploughed into this thing?
It’s a perfectly valid question, wondering what on earth it’s being spent on.
You can bet H & M aren’t paying to attend 😂. Quite the reverse, I’d say.

No. Would be interesting to see the details of how far their expenses package extends - clothes? makeup artist? hairdresser? penthouse suite? entertaining?

Answers on a postcard please.

Re Harry exploring all available options to make the trip happen, I can’t remember who suggested they could come up the Thames in a submarine - excellent suggestion by the way - but perhaps they could also consider being parachuted in like the Queen for the Olympic Games …

For some reason I had a vision of them being rowed down the Thames on a pleasure barge like Antony and Cleopatra, with Archie and Lili wearing bedsheets...

Meanwhile a lot of US State Department documents are due to be released towards the end of July, following the Heritage Foundation court case about Harry's security.

The judgement said that his application should remain private, but apparently other documents can be released.
https://archive.is/YSlcN

It does make you wonder what he claimed in his visa application if releasing it would result in him being harassed. But I guess we will never know.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/06/2026 19:32

There are lots of exits to BP and they could easily leave in a SUV with tinted windows

If the palace still have it they could even borrow the London black cab Philip used to drive himself round in, @Lunde. Nothing more anonymous than that, but like yourself I rather doubt that's what they're after

And thanks for the link from State, @bluegreygreen. I have a horrible suspicion much will be redacted, but hope to be wrong

Edited

The Canadian government allowed the Invictus accounts for the Whistler Invictus Games to be heavily redacted, which meant that a lot of financial information was unavailable.

I thought many of them are sponsored, or outright paid for by their own national Invictus teams, governments, military organisations and so on, Starryfifty?

That is a fab idea @Puzzledandpissedoff - Harry could even make a bob or two!
