Will they stay at Royal Lodge? I really hope it all works out for KC and to see his grandchildren would be lovely.

Harry is wearing a baby blue linen shirt and a black 'Invictus Australia' baseball cap. Meghan is wearing a darker blue and white striped shirt.

Harry and Meghan offered royal accommodation during UK visit

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to visit the UK with their children next month, for the first time since 2022.

Maybe he’s not that bothered about meeting grandchildren he wouldn’t recognise if he walked past them in the street 🤷🏻‍♀️ (unless they were walking backwards of course) you only have to read on here the threads about grandparents who aren’t particularly interested in their grandchildren, It’s not unusual, and according to Rebecca English in her latest article she says contrary to popular belief KC isn’t bothered about building bridges with Harry either but will meet him if Harry wants to. There comes a point when estranged members of the family just become total strangers and blood ties become irrelevant, life goes on without them.

All this emphasis on meeting them is weird.

As if them spending time sitting next to the King was the important thing to have happened. Rather than them getting to know their granddad, which is a project that happens time, and not in a forced, bigged-up meeting.

Good point.

It was the same with the 'Lilibet meets Lilibet' nonsense 4 years ago. As if 'meeting' someone once means anything to a young child. If the Sussex kids do get to visit, then Charles will be just an old man with a funny accent. It's not like jetlagged kids who seem to live a sheltered life are going to think of it as a wonderful experience.

They need to meet Charles many times if they are to have a relationship. But instead this is being portrayed as a box to tick, an achievement to boast of, like meeting the Pope or getting a selfie with Ronaldo. Which is one more reason why Charles should be very cautious about this whole farce.

Well done Charles?

If I had cancer and two grandchildren whom I had barely seen, I would be making every single possible effort to welcome them to my home and smoothing their path to make it as easy as possible for them to see me. I would be ringing them up and talking to them myself and not relying on flunkies to do the talking on my behalf.

I do not believe anyone who tells me that the King of England couldn’t make this work if he really wanted to, RAVEC or no RAVEC. That is why there a representative from BP on the panel after all

If H&M are making excessive demands then I would facilitate them to begin with until our relationship was back on board and then I would negotiate. It’s so ridiculous getting stuck on these silly logistical details. The relationship is what is important.

No such person as The King of England.

I'm sure he is.

Much of his life is spent meeting people he'll probably never see again, and doing what is required to put them at easy and make the occasion a memorable one for them. He'll be keenly aware of what is being asked/offered.

Laying aside the silliness of someone who writes about “The King of England” explaining the structure of Ravec, I’ll play.

If I were Harry or Meghan, I’d recognize that we created a situation where no one in our extended family can possibly trust us. I’d be looking at ways to repair these relationships and make amends for the multiple heinous public criticisms and invasions of privacy. I’d admit publicly we are solely to blame for the fact that the children are missing out on the privilege of being part of the Royal family, spending time in the country and innumerable loving relationships.

I would be looking for someone else that could be trusted by all to take them to meet the King and everyone else. Probably ask if their nanny could bring them instead so no one has to fear they are being recorded.

A kind grandad might also decide not to burden his grandchildren with the what-might-have-beens. And to protect them from being merched (and possibly defined for the rest of their lives) on the strength of a single meeting.

So — they’re not coming. Meghan, Archie and Lilibet will not be joining Prince Harry when he visits London, later this week. This is according to the latest reports, issued at the time of my writing this very sentence — though it could all change, of course, by the time I’ve written a few more.
To date, and in a little over eight days, the Sussexes have gone from: saying they would definitely visit the UK as a family — their first trip in four years; to then accepting the offer of a palace in which to stay; to then issuing an official schedule for that trip (one which embraced a visit between King Charles and the grandchildren he barely knows, and a trip to Diana’s grave); to Harry re-discovering that he and his family wouldn’t be offered police security while in the UK.
This, by the way, is a situation he has known about for six years, ever since he and Meghan stepped down as working royals, one reinforced by a 2024 High Court ruling, issued after Harry challenged it, and which was in the process of being reassessed yet again, though that process is, apparently, “paused”. But it seemed to surprise and appal Harry anew so, he said, the kids and the Mrs wouldn’t come after all. They couldn’t. Too dangerous.
Then — briefly — it was on again! Flashing an alluring ankle at the press, the King, any other interested parties, via a statement claiming that Harry was still: “explor[ing] every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK”.
Ah, but now? Following the release of a report into six terrorist plots currently threatening the Sussexes, it definitely isn’t.

Probably definitely — for now.
It’s like watching a farce of extremely limited scope. They’re coming! They’re not. But they are! Oh: they’re not. Harry flails about like Basil Fawlty on ice, all perplexed fury, self-pity and increasingly poor judgment. “Throwing his toys out of he pram” falls so short — it’s more as if, having thrown his toys out of the pram, he has lowered himself out of the pram after them, then thrown them a bit further, then, thrown them all back in, only to discover there’s no room for him anymore! Because the pram is filled with toys!
It’s so unfair!
Harry is said to be “distraught” to have re-discovered the security situation — but, how can he be? He knew!

Maybe the Prince believed he could make the King act in his interests — dangle that meeting with Archie and Lilibet before him, then snatch it away, last minute, in the hope that Charles (his appetite for family reconciliation and an audience with the kids whetted) would intervene in the security issue. This the King cannot do without overriding state security, rarely a great look on a monarch.
If Harry honestly thought that’s how it would play out (only, it didn’t) maybe that would have left him “distraught”? I suppose it would be a bit distressing if your best attempts to emotionally manipulate your cancer-stricken father into compromising himself and his office in the vain hope of seeing his grandchildren again fell horribly, obviously, publicly flat?
I’m not sure I’d like it.
But argh, what a mess he’s made — for himself, for Meghan! The Sussexes are on their uppers. All those big deals — Spotify, Netflix — ended. All that unsold jam. America seems to be tiring of them. All the Sussexes ever had going for them as US celebrities was their being royal, or rather, the rejection of that, in the first instance. There was the promise of them eventually reinventing themselves as an entirely new kind of famous: transatlantic, modern, royal-yet-not… But, they didn’t do that. They got stuck. So, what are they, then, to the US? What do they do? What do they mean? It’s unclear.

A rapprochement with the fam in the course of this trip might have served to reboot their American celebrity, to mark the beginning of a new era, forge a new sense of public identity. Coming back together again, despite It All, despite the Tell Alls and the (retracted) accusations of racism? That’s a story worth telling, worth hearing, no? If the UK isn’t up for it — and I don’t think we would be, would we? — America might be…
But even that’s out the window, now.
Meanwhile, Kate is climbing literal mountains for cancer, and tipping up at Wimbledon looking sensational. Camilla is hanging out with JK Rowling in the name of children’s literacy, reportedly not giving a damn about the anti-Rowling trans-activism-related backlash, because, according to sources, the Queen would always rather “be brave than safe”. Edward and Sophie are posing for adorable graduation pics alongside their daughter Lady Louise, as she leaves St Andrews with a degree in English, before heading off on a gap year… while West End star Ruthie Henshall publishes a memoir which details her five-year relationship with Edward, in such a way as to make him seem rather glamorous and sexy. They’re all just doing their thing, being bold and interesting, or just unexpectedly good in bed… While Harry, with every passing press statement, seems more petulant, more clueless, more self-involved, less decisive and in control.
All that attention the Sussexes swore they didn’t want, yet clearly always craved, is theirs now — only, it’s of the very worst kind. They longed, I think, not actually to be private at all, but rather to be mindlessly, endlessly, adored, revered, loved — oh! And definitely paid. Instead, and entirely by their own making, here they are, just irritating everyone, with their indecision, and their ineptitude. If, by the time you read this, it turns out Harry’s changed his mind again, decided to bring Meghan and the children to London after all, I’m not sure anyone, but the King, will care.
Come. Don’t come. Whatever. We’re busy.

Meghan and children will not accompany Prince Harry to London

The duchess, Archie and Lilibet could still join the duke for engagements outside the capital during the rest of his five-day visit to the UK

Well you have to start to meet people on a regular basis if you want to build a relationship; that is normally how it works!

Yes, we all live in the real world where we have healthy relationships. None of us have moved to Cali, written a book about our brother's penis or refused to allow our children to speak with any family members for four years. They are the odd-bods!

Yes this doesn’t quite add up does it?

If Harry is all about the money, his commercial enterprises, and exploiting his royal connections, then the visit with his family, staying at BP or wherever, would have gone ahead no matter what?

Maybe he is genuinely concerned for the safety of his family?

Speaking of which, I am continually amazed that so many of you regular contribute to twenty page threads that contain post after post criticising Harry and Meghan and then can’t understand why he feels there is a threat against him!

Of course no one on Mumsnet would actually harm Harry would they, before anyone accuses me of saying that? No one would be deranged as that because we are all too reasonable and intelligent on here! But if the vitriol on here is so persistent and ubiquitous against someone you have all never even met, then can you not imagine what it is like on sites that shall we say are less considered?

Jo Cox the MP was murdered because some lunatic had been stirred up by on-line rhetoric. It only takes one deranged person. And Meghan, being mixed race, received racist targeted threats against her, according to Neil Basu, a former senior anti terrorist officer in the Met.

My point being that so many royal commentators globally have seen an opportunity to make money by writing negative articles against Harry and Meghan - out of all proportion to what they have done - that I can well imagine they feel genuinely besieged.

Vivienesarches689 · 06/07/2026 07:02

Btw I take everyone’s point about the King of England! I do know there is no such thing. I was using the term for emphasis as most of you surely must have known. But I stand corrected.

PoppysAunt · 06/07/2026 07:09

Because, @Vivienesarches689 - the simple truth is this: criticism of a person's behaviour is not hate. Posting on here does not equate to an actual threat against Harry It's extraordinary that you think it does!
Otherwise MN would be shut down.
RAVEC check everything, they're not a cowboy outfit! They know what's going on. You don't.
Harry cannot be that worried about security. Knocking on random doors? Going to Nigeria? Living in a country with high gun ownership?
Give me a break. He wants the money, but this is all about the attention. He's making headlines, just as he likes it. Money, status, privilege - his Royal identity is everything, which clearly his royalist fans value

PoppysAunt · 06/07/2026 07:16

I'm certainly relieved that the security services, MI5, MI6 and counter terror intelligence use proper metrics and evidence, rather than the opinions of some fans who are upset because we dare to criticise a Royal Prince.
Very relieved!
Brenda in Wigan thinks Harry's been selfish? Quick! He needs armed protection!
Cost us £millions.

Luckily RAVEC have access to more sophisticated intelligence than reading the MN royal boards, so you can rest easy. This is one of Harry’s complaints isn’t it - that the security services won’t share their intelligence (with a famously indiscreet civilian celeb). So even he knows that there is a bit more to it than reading social media. The threats against Meghan were discussed by Basu in 2022 iirc, and he was talking about the past even then, Meghan’s time as a working royal. So not really relevant in discussions about the appropriate level of security now.

Maybe the Sussexes do feel besieged and fearful, but fear is not a reliable indicator of danger and feelings generally are not the best evidence of threat. Armed protection is allocated based on assessment of risk, not on how scared someone is.

That is exactly what you are suggesting with your post though isn’t it? despite your coy little denial, that is exactly what you are suggesting, that regular posters on here pose a physical threat to Prince Harry and could attack him. I think this is one of the most poisonous posts against posters I have ever read on here, you should be ashamed.

Him and his supporters cannot abide criticism, they want to shut down freedom of speech.

It is possible that the private security firm with the ex probation officer (torch or touch something) have applied a less than sophisticated take on online discussion about the Sussexes and have amplified criticism to mean threats of harm - thereby creating a massive expectation gap in Harry’s head?
