Royal Ascot 2026 - Carriage Lists

I’ve done this for the last few years but wanted to see if there was still interest?

I work in racing and am on the media circulation list for all the Royal Ascot press releases throughout the meeting. They send out the carriage lists at midday each day so if people are interested I’m happy to pop it up for discussion.

The Royal Procession is at 2pm each day (Tuesday-Saturday) and you can watch on ITV.

Ha. Imagine if they put it out to public ballot. Tatler website has provided this. Which makes it even more annoying that “Mrs Matt Ramsden” isn’t listed with her own forename if she’s the reason they are there!

Zara nearly wasn’t there at all today as she didn’t have her pass and a security guard (quite rightly imo) wouldn’t let her in. She had to hang around at the entrance until it was sorted.

Interesting that she’s got Zara on her badge this year as she was definitely ‘Mrs Michael Tindall’ previously at Ascot.

Reminds me of a couple I knew back in the day used to get letters addressed to 'Dr. and Mrs. Smith'.

They were both doctors.

I wonder if the royal ladies get the choice on the name thing the way other guests do or if it’s just assumed that you’ll go with tradition.

It might be quite daunting when you’ve just married in and been invited into your first carriage procession to say “erm, actually, about this name thing…”

If Zara is Zara rather than Mrs Michael on her badge this year it’ll be interesting to see what the carriage listings say when she is in them (I’m assuming she will be at some point this week, they usually are).

Yes, I’ve noticed that too in previous years. With disappointment. Mr Michael wouldn’t be there at all if it wasn’t for his wife. He should be Mr Zara…😂

Friends of ours did that for a joke on place cards at their wedding (there was only 12 of us there) after the subject came up on the hen that the bride and her SIL were irritated they instead of Dr Theirname they kept getting called Mrs Husbandsname.

So the placecards were all Dr / Ms Hername and Mr Hername for everyone 😂

Our favourite one was our 6ft 7 rugby player friend having a place card along the lines of Mr Poppy Short 😂

The restaurant staff were a bit bemused 😂😂

I guess they all get a go and take it it turns? Feels like today was weighted towards Camilla’s side of things?

Usually there for one of the days (Catherine not for last 2 years for understandable reasons). I want to say maybe Ladies' Day this year, as focus is naturally on the women and Catherine usually gets her look just right each year she attends. Loved her polker-dot My Fair Lady-esque dress and hat from the other year.

Edited

I think the Prince of Wales Stakes are tomorrow so William may need to be there for that.

Thanks CaveMum, I was hoping you’d do a thread.
Though I won’t get to watch much as heading to Exmoor for lots of walking on Thursday.

Today I heard an anecdote about Prince Phillip - apparently he hated racing and would dutifully sit in the carriage for the procession and then as soon as he made it to the stands nip out the back and take a car home. Do you know if there is any truth in this?

The Prince Philip story is true! He hated racing, but loved the Queen so did it for her. He had his own little room off the Royal Box where he’d disappear to watch the cricket!

He came out for trophy presentations, to look at horses in the paddock, etc, but had no interest in the sport really.

It’s quite common in horsey people to look down on racing. They see it as “boring” but when you immerse yourself in pedigrees, the art of training, etc it’s utterly fascinating!

Today’s Carriage List - @capelmustard you get your wish!

1st Carriage
The King
The Queen
Mr Daniel Chatto
The Lady Sarah Chatto

2nd Carriage
The Prince of Wales
The Princess of Wales
The Duke of Richmond and Gordon
The Duchess of Richmond and Gordon

3rd Carriage
Mr Rory Stewart
Mrs Rory Stewart
The Lady Sarah Keswick
The Marchioness of Lansdowne

4th Carriage
Mr William Haggas
Mrs William Haggas
Mr John Gosden
Ms Rachel Hood

Re the 4th carriage, for those who don’t know, William Haggas and John Gosden are both very successful racehorse trainers and Maureen Haggas is basically the joint trainer, and also the great Lester Piggott’s daughter. Rachel Hood is also Mrs Gosden, but she never goes by her married name 😜

I will look forward to Alistair Campbell giving Rory Stewart a bit of stick for being in the carriages too!

Thanks for the list - and info on the trainers. That was my first thought too - Rory Stewart will get an absolute earful from Campbell!

The other two ladies in the second carriage are two of Camilla’s “companions”. Wikipedia has them both with her at the state opening of parliament in 2024, and no doubt many more occasions too.

HelenaWilson · 17/06/2026 12:30

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon
The Duchess of Richmond and Gordon

Fans of Georgette Heyer will immediately think of the Duchess of Richmond's ball. On 15 June 1815, so just missed the anniversary. The present duchess is a member of the Astor family, a granddaughter of Nancy.

The Dukes of Richmond own the Goodwood estate, including the racecourse.

Lady Sarah Keswick is a close friend of Camilla and is one of the 'Queen's companions' who are in place of ladies in waiting.

I have spent a large part of my adult life being called Mrs Hisname, or if I'm lucky, Dr Hisname, outside work. And if we are ever going anywhere were people don't know us but know one of us is a doctor I'd say that 90% of the time it's assumed to be DH. I had booked an appointment at a car dealership recently, as Dr A Doc. DH came with me and surprise, surprise, the salesman came striding over with his hand out to greet DH saying "Great to meet you Dr Doc". Mind you, he continued to ignore me throughout, despite being repeatedly corrected by us both. He didn't get the sale!
DH used to think I over reacted, until we went to an event where I was the primary guest and our place cards said Dr A Doc and Mr B Doc. I felt him bristle as he read it so I turned to him and smiled saying "It's just a name darling, they don't mean anything by it. No need to over react." He muttered "Fair point" and has been much better ever since!
Sorry, not the point of the thread I know but it's shocking that, even today, a woman having the audacity to want to use her own name and title is so often perceived as petty or unreasonable.

JustAnotherWhinger · 17/06/2026 14:01

Camilla and Sarah both in cream/ivory by the looks of it.

I am convinced now the royal ladies coordinate outfit colours 😂

JustAnotherWhinger · 17/06/2026 14:02

But Kate is in bright yellow so maybe not 😂

She seems to be taking a leaf out of the late Queen’s book - bright colours to be seen by everyone.

I like the dark green on Shoshana Stewart.

And Sophie is in black.

my theory is officially debunked 😂😂

MaggieFS · 17/06/2026 14:49

I can’t find any pics apart from Kate. Where have you seen them… do I just need to be patient!

Are there any photos of it?

MaggieFS · 17/06/2026 15:13

There are a few short videos on the Hello Facebook page, only the first two carriages so I’m none the wiser about the green dress! Looking forward to seeing that.

Whilst we’re on the subject of ditching Mrs Hisname, can we also ditch women having to curtesy? I’m fairly traditional in a lot of respects but watching Sophie and Kate kowtow has really got my goat today. Why shouldn’t women just be able to dip their head like men. It’s so demeaning.

(But probably good for their core stability in later life, if they can keep doing that on grass whilst wearing heels 😀)

CaveMum · 17/06/2026 15:14

@MeetMeOnTheCorner that’s great! It’s a beautiful colour.
