I’m with Kate on this. I’m not a big royalist but it must be horrible to hear your young kids getting booed.

Totally valid protest. Republic are always non violent. We should live in a democracy and vote in our head of state.

Here's the actual footage with sound - it's within the article, I can't find the video on its own.

It's wildly exaggerated to call it "if looks could kill" "glaring" etc, someone they interviewed in the crown said they thought Charlotte looked almost in tears. It looks to me like a few seconds of nothing much. I'm sure the yellow T-shirts and signs and some shouting was a little distracting, and a contrast to all the thousands of other people, but it's hardly a major incident.

It's absolute tripe, isn't it? She looked them in the eye and waived. If that's Catherine's nasty face, then they'd die if they came into contact with me when I have a face on. Who knew Graham and his disciples were such a bunch of pansies? Honestly, protest all you want, but don't cry about it when a woman you are screaming abuse at looks at you and waives!

Folk have the right to protest against this overpriviledged band of billionaires bankrolled by the public.

Totally agree. As long as it is not violent of course.

So you'd prefer an elected president bankrolled by the public? Like Donald Trump, who unlike the RF has Air Force One and Marine One at his disposal for every trip, while the RF gave up their RAF aircraft? And would you be happy with President Boris Johnson or President Nigel Farage representing the country overseas in a diplomatic capacity? Because they're very popular with the electorate. And neither of them are likely to live modestly to save the taxpayer money.

The RF aren't billionaires either, and there are people in the UK who are much wealthier.

Perhaps she shouldn't have married into the royal family and had those children then. Presumably she knew that the role would involve wheeling them out occasionally, and that not all the plebs support the monarchy.

When I think about all the children in this country suffering in poverty, I really can't get too het up about these privileged individuals needing to hear a bit of booing.

pinkyredrose · 15/06/2026 18:15

perlana · 15/06/2026 13:07

It's tough out there when you're filthy rich prancing around in a gold painted carriage while the subjects are trying to feed their kids and pay their exorbitant mortgages.

But the escapism that comes with oohing and aaahing over Kate's dresses, the kids, the weddings is a comfort for some in their misery.

Protesting is fine, as long as it doesn't turn violent, which so far it hasn't. Free speech, free country, unelected monarchy, what more could we ask for!

You've really done your research haven't you?

DuchessOfPort · 15/06/2026 18:19

I don’t even think she’s glaring. They all look like the sun is facing them.

However, I think anti monarchy protests are generally pretty good - and they’re a group who behave. Can’t see the problem with “not my king” or placards that object to the institution. And booing might feel personal but it’s not especially.

Diana and her children having the words WHORE screamed at them on the school run to try to get a photo of her looking shocked used to be quite standard and was grim.

I assumed there was a) going to be a photo of an actual glaring Princess of Wales and the sound would have someone shouting something mean and personal but there appears to be neither of those things. Literally nothing to see..

Lemonfrost · 15/06/2026 18:31

DisforDarkChocolate · 15/06/2026 13:49

Yeah, because when Harry did that, he had all the love and support his family could offer, didn't he?

I really don't think there is much of a comparison here.

Exactly - she stops smiling for about five seconds - and she and the kids glance at the source of the noise - which isn't really very loud.

The reports about it and the outrage/glee on social media are creating a big fuss that isn't really there.

She’s obviously glaring, and so is Charlotte! It was mean to use an occasion like this to boo at the family.

MargotLovesTom · 15/06/2026 19:11

'Mean'? We're not in the playground. I think it'll do them good to realise not everyone in the country is a fawning drip who loves to gawp gormlessly and foist unwanted gifts on them and all the rest of that shit. It makes me sick seeing them whisk by in these carriages benevolently waving at the plebs.

Desperatelyseekinglazysusan · 15/06/2026 19:27

Charles and William are both billionaires. Most people who are wealthier have earned their money. The ones that haven't (Duke of Westminster) should also be paying proper tax.

Wellywanda3 · 15/06/2026 19:33

I mean I’m no more important than anyone else in the world and so….i find very difficult to understand the concept of inbred privilege and wealth and the need to idolise it.
A monarch will earn real respect when he/she speaks up for his people and protects his borders at whatever cost to himself or his family- that is a ‘King’ imo. What we have unfortunately is disappointing circus of weak grifters.

BemusedAmerican · 15/06/2026 19:37

This is sexist crap. If she were a man, she would be described as stoic. Since she is a woman and stopped smiling for a second, she gets all this criticism.

sleeppleasesoon · 15/06/2026 19:43

The royals are parasites.

BemusedAmerican · 15/06/2026 19:49

BurntBroccoli · 15/06/2026 19:58

Sounds quite frightening to be fair - kids looked really scared.

JustSawJohnny · 15/06/2026 20:00

They are allowed to protest and she is allowed to glare.

Bit unfair of the press to hone in on her face, IMO. It's making more of the issue.

Also, it wasn't her kids being booed but the establishment and privilege they were born into.

I think she's made of stronger stuff than to be rattled by that, to be honest.

CathyorClaire · 15/06/2026 21:08

Republic didn't spring their protest unannounced. It was all over their website which I've absolutely no doubt is closely monitored at least by BP and W&K's crisis manager too if they're earning their keep.

While at least the elder two are of an age to be gently filled in on why the royals aren't universally popular I don't think it's a great idea to expose any of them to protests they're still young enough to take personally.

Time for the adult royals to sideline the hoped for juvenile heat shields and suck up unpopularity on their own account.

CurlewKate · 16/06/2026 05:37

Woman briefly stops smiling = woman glaring. AKA Cheer up, love!

You don’t have to watch them?
I know one of those booers. Ex Cheltenham ladies. Family paid for her house. Doesn’t work but puts herself all over social media. Chains herself to railings and bridges to support Stop Oil. But has gas central heating, a petrol car and a huge gas barbecue.
Does That behaviour make you sick too?

our model does work and at relatively low cost

Absolutely not

I feel that the modern members of the royal family and I'm talking William and Kate, have always been mindful of not being showy, not buying new gowns for every occasion, living life as normally as is possible in such a highly public position. I haven't seen any public splashing of the cash from them

I have no words for this. There is so much falsity with this I don't know where to begin
