Hello I thought I'd start a thread where we can build up the excitement for tomorrow 😂

I'm enjoying the English Country/ family vibe I'm getting from the setting and wedding prep.

Fox Gloves in the flowers 💕

I'm looking forward to seeing Harriet's dress, she's a very attractive women, but the flowers are always of special interst to me.

Who do we think will be bridesmaids? Peters P's and Harriet's daughters presumably? Zara's kids?

I read that Philip and Zara have a half sister who will be attending, I didn't kow about her!

I also read that Peters first wedding to Autumn was sold to Hello and criticised for this. Very tacky. It looks like he's learned and is not cashing in this time, so hopefully we'll get a good look at evryone.

Thank you @PlentifulPeoniesPlease for on site reporting

I have horrid legs so love the longer frock

i look hideous in block colours so always go for a pattern or floral

I’m trying to think of how many other MN rules I’ve broken over the years!

Slightly surprised and disappointed that the look was blushing, first-time bride. Neckline on the dress was not flattering, too much lace, but if that is what she/they wanted my opinion is of no significance.
In contrast to other posters, I thought the Princesses were fine and appropriately dressed, although I think Princess Beatrice should have chosen a dark green for her accessories. Navy blue is always good.
I did love that the Princess Royal stuck to her "clean and tidy" mantra.
Refreshing to note that there were no fake tans, trout pouts, visible tattoos or overly exposed body parts!

Edited

I'm sorry but Princess A looked a fright. She's a good person as far as we can tell and a 'good egg' but 'Clean and tidy' is not enough for a high profile wedding. For the mother of the groom it was not a good look. The black accessories were awful, the shawl was not great, the flowery dress and long jacket- nope. I know she's never wanted to be a style icon or has much interest in clothes, but you'd think for big events she'd take some advice even from Zara (daughter, not the shop!) She's younger than both Joanna Lumley and Helen Mirren (as examples) and they always look elegant.

I was really surprised that so many of the guests were so badly dressed , also that the wedding dress was so disappointing. The happy couple looked very in love though and that’s what matters.

I agree. Most guests looked dreadful considering how they mostly have the income to buy almost anything - or even on a budget they could choose more wisely.

I thought the bride looked as if she was having an issue walking (out of the church) as the straight line of her dress looked constricting.

The high neck didn't suit her and looked as if it was choking her.

The overall opinion (I hate to say this but it was comments in the Mail) was that a full length veil and train are not appropriate for a 2nd wedding of a middle aged woman (I don't think age is really the issue) but the 'virginal' look wasn't good.

One of the locals told me the Kemble Church is Harriet’s local church she attends regularly.
I wonder if Peter is a keen churchgoer - of course the Late Queen was deeply committed to her faith, maybe she had some influence on Peter in this respect. One might expect some alignment of thinking in a married couple.

My mother who divorced my father when I was very young and remarried never took communion, something to do with being a divorcee.
I no longer take communion because it honestly makes me feel a bit sick passing that cup around so many people ( well usually about eight in my tiny village church 😆). I always felt a bit iffy about it but after Covid I just can’t. I get my annual flu vaccination, listen to warnings about norovirus and then share a cup with multiple people? I guess I’m not really in the spirit of it all.

Princess Anne looked awful imho, a mismatch of clothes. And why was Catherine in white? Well off white? I thought it was an unwritten rule not to wear white/off white to a wedding unless you’re the bride?

Looked like beige to me.

Downunderduchess · Today 07:49

I liked the brides dress, she looked very elegant, nothing too frou frou or OTT. Zara looked good, she doesn’t imo have great style, but her dress looked nice today, Sophie looked lovely too. Catherine looked a bit bland as per.

The dress was open up to the calf at the back to help her walk in it and add a bit of pizazz.

I love this outfit .
Very Bianca Jagger

Yes, a 70s vibe but still very chic and contemporary. Her husband looks dapper too!

I'd love to have seen Harriet in an immaculately tailored suit, but obviously that's not her style.

I agree that full veil, train etc is odd for a second wedding, also that age is irrelevant here. The issue I suppose is if you get married in a country church, something more simple and pared back might look odd. Camilla’s wedding dress (to Charles) was spot on I thought - looked lovely and suitably glam/dressy and very appropriate for a second wedding. There’s so many fab alternative wedding looks to choose from nowadays (see Dua Lipa’s recent wedding), but I do think that a traditional church wedding will often lead a bride down a particular path.

I posted that comment knowing it had a slit up the back.

Maybe it was the heels but she looked as if she wasn't walking well as she came out of the church into the road.

How did she manage to sit down on it?!

Marmaladeaddict · Today 08:00

The bodice looked very lumpy and the material seemed too thick and actually made the bride look a bit shapeless. She has such a nice figure but the dress did nothing for her.

I don't think there is an expectation that a church wedding requires a particular style of dress. Sixty years ago my aunt had a full -on country church wedding (and her family were loaded- some of the accessories came from Paris.) Her dress was similar to Harriet's, very simple, but it had sleeves and no lacy bodice, short veil, no train.
I had a church wedding in a country church- I did wear a white dress that was quite flouncy but a tiny short veil which I didn't wear over m face, and no train.

HoldMyWine · Today 08:02

I didn’t think the dress was ‘ country wedding’ it was more ‘high church’, would have suited Westminster abbey more.
i was expecting her to wear a fitted dress as she has a lovely figure just something more simple.

TaoJing · Today 08:05

I didn't see any photos of her family.
Where were her mother and father?

AmazingGreatAunt · Today 08:06

I do think a lot of people here have no idea how other demographics behave. Generally, for events like weddings, funerals, black tie, white tie and christenings, most people I know already have appropriate clothes to wear, so they are not going to be rushing out to the high street for the latest, immodest fast-fashion offering in polyester or viscose.

PlentifulPeoniesPlease · Today 08:08

Princess Anne was very stylish in her youth and has plenty of nice outfits to choose from in her wardrobe.
Someone posted a roundup of all her past royal wedding outfits on X but I can’t find it now. She wore a lovely purple one to one wedding.
I like what she wore to Harry’s wedding though perhaps a rewear of that to her son’s wedding might be a bit tainted. 😉

For those who mentioned how Beatrice has a look of Queen Victoria about her here are some photos. Genes ate are a funny thing. I was reading something about Queen Victoria’s daughters the other day. None of them looked like QV.

Yes I’ve certainly seen Anne in nicer outfits.
ive now seen Zara from the front and really liked her dress and the silver accessories. I don’t know how the royal women walk in those heels though!

PlentifulPeoniesPlease · Today 08:20

Also since so much has been made of Harriet as an NHS nurse, whilst we’ve established she clearly has other money than her NHS income to fund her daughter’s education and her stylish wardrobe - I’d like to know how she gets time off for all the big events. She attends Badminton every year, Wimbledon, photographed at some sporting event in Dubai and other society events plus Easter with the Royals. Though I know she has specialised and probably works an 8-5 weekday pattern rather than ward shifts. Still, she does seem to manage her off duty rather well.

The bride's mum died years ago. Could be stepmum.

Is her father who died.

I don't really know what you're getting at.
The comments are that many guests looked pretty awful, whether they'd bought their dresses last week or 15 years ago.

Most people I know do not go to white or black tie events as a matter of course so you must move in very different circles.
