I have not really been paying much attention to H&M's grifters getaway to Australia. Here in the USA, Tax Day is April 15th so all focus was on that. Iran has also dominated the airwaves interspersed with Congressman Swalwell's sex scandals (California Dem who was lining up to run for Governor. For context, Cali's GDP of $4.2 trillion puts it at 5th in the world on a standalone basis so it is a pretty big deal to govern).

Megxit was always going to have 2 phases of about 5 years each followed by the final phase of irrelevance. The first 5 years was the crash and burn at the top tier of politics (Obamas gone, Bidens gone, Dem party leadership staying away, alienating Republicans) and companies (loss-making at Spotify, Penguin and Netflix).

The next 5 years is the gradual downhill slide as they look to royal cosplay, smaller events and basic merching such as the Girls Weekend (Fyre Festival vibes) while they increasingly compete with the next generation of Royals as seen at Easter. The relentless cosplay in Australia has backfired...there is more negativity. Sadly A&L are the next generation B&E without the benefit of decades of family event appearances (Easter/Christmas/Trooping balcony/Garden parties/Ascot, etc.) but with the baggage of Mr. Mischief and "Ooops I forgot I shared info with Omid for Finding Freedom" as parents.

IMHO, when George hits 18, H&M enter the final phase of irrelevance to youth chasing print/social media. In between Charlotte and whoever George and Louis bring into the firm, rounded out by the Phillips/Tindall/Edinburgh, it will be game-over for H&M. And as their position collapses, the sharks will circle and some of the people who were allegedly bullied by H&M may come back for vengeance.

That’s an interesting analysis, @My2cents1975. My much more simplistic one is that the Sussex-Mountbatten-Windsors are warming Australia up for possible residency. Who can forget the Canada House “visit” swiftly followed by their freedom flight?

MM will always be drawn back to Cali but their star has well and truly faded at the moment. They need new pastures to reinvent themselves so they can return with a flourish.

Perhaps Australia likes the idea of a resident royal, even an exiled one?

Dubious, I think. The coverage about their visit has been copious and negative, and I haven't spotted any huge crowds greeting them. As ever, I am dubious about them having a strategy. They give the impression of trying one thing after another in a 'flavour of the moment' kind of way.

I can't really see their brand of "charity" and "service" being well received in Australia. Neither do I think Harry's habit of speaking his truth, as opposed to the truth, is going to work well there.

But the visit may be going really well, anyone know how they are being received?

jeffgoldblum · 16/04/2026 10:04

My dh did tours of both Afghanistan and Iraq ! , normal military do not receive a medal just for showing up!!! 🙄 and the ones he’s wearing are not for that!!
educate yourself!

Edited

Ask the R.A.F. They don't have to go out on patrol , they don't even have to have survived in-coming on to the base but they are given a medal as long as they have been in theatre 28 days. I know because my ex has medals from GW1, GW2, Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and 4 others. And yes he can wear them on his suit/blazer jacket for any event remembering the fallen or his miniature set when attending a mess function.

Yes, I wonder how much money Meghan will make from links to those clothes? It's not been the best wardrobe she's ever worn, tbh.

I know I've said before , I really liked the navy dress and I think it suited her. Apart from that I agree with you. Ironically , whilst I can see Only One as a valid vehicle for celebrities to earn money from their popularity , a hospital visit is just distasteful. So the best outfit worn when she really shouldn't have been advertising her outfit for cash. I've read between 10 - 25 % commission but how much she gets to keep and how much goes to Only Ones - no idea. I am not familiar with the model because for some reason I cannot fathom , no-one has ever suggested I merch my outfits 😃

ERthree · 16/04/2026 15:26

jeffgoldblum · 16/04/2026 13:00

Ps you are aware those men are not actually wearing suits and are wearing most of their original uniforms?
and it was London remembrance 2015 , did you really search google just to stick it to me?

Edited

Not one man in that photo is wearing his uniform. Once you leave the Service you are no longer permitted to wear the uniform. They may be wearing their Berets but the only part of their uniform that will still fit will be their Puttees.

In most cases I agree, they are not strategists, but this looks very like the start of Megxit 1.0. I don’t know about the coverage, they seem to have had welcoming crowds, if not huge ones.

I think Meghan would cling onto the runway tarmac at LAX with her nails rather than move away from California. Just my view.

If they do move to Australia, that raises an interesting possibility: that they will make themselves unpopular in Australia and have to move to, say, Africa. 3/4 years in the UK. 5/6 years in the US. X years in Australia, potentially. They don't see that the problem is them.

I don’t think they will last there, that’s for certain. The Australians will take a lot less time to get sick of them.

But I do think that there are those for whom having a member of the British Royal Family living there would be enormously appealing, the Australian Tourism Board for one.

I’m watching with interest. (I was right about Canada, saw it coming a mile off).

I don’t believe they will stay anywhere long. Neither of them have any sticking power.

I will explain better because when I posted that I was extremely needled by that poster, I’m aware that all serving people actually present in war zones receive service medals but Harry’s chest full does not all come from active duty, so attempting to shame another poster @Indianrollerbirdas she did with Harry’s “ bravery “ irritated me.
my dh was TCW and was stationed at brize Norton ( as you know this camp is actually separate from raf housing which was in Carterton ) so he was unfortunately on full duty on each tour .
his commanding officer was very clear about when he could and couldn’t wear uniform while off duty as for medals, his are in a box , I don’t believe he wore them even on our wedding day ( although he was given permission to wear his uniform) although he didn’t have as many then as when he left .

I was just thinking that myself @TheAutumnCrowand retired veterans are allowed to wear their uniforms ( if they have them ) for Remembrance Day ceremonies .

"retired veterans are allowed to wear their uniforms ( if they have them ) for Remembrance Day ceremonies"

Oh no they are not/no I am not...🙄

And has been mentioned by another poster if you had bothered to look hard you will have seen no-one in the picture of veterans that I provided is wearing uniform, other than head dress.. something which has become norm at some parades.

What do you mean, Megxit 1.0?

I believe there will be another substantial move at some point. Megxit 1.0 was the move to the US via Canada.

@BasiliskStare, I agree that MM’s natural home is Cali but it doesn’t seem to be loving her back. I think she may realise she needs to build her brand elsewhere and return as a success. But that is of course purely speculation on my part.

I'm not sure she can rebuild her brand , where would she go and what would she sell ? She's pretty well known globally and her efforts and failures so far , have been well documented.

I have no idea, but you have to hand it to MM, she doesn’t give up.

She certainly doesn't! But she just hasn't given anything long enough, it takes years to build a successful brand, she may be a tryer but doesn't seem to have the patience to get established. She has definitely overestimated her popularity and business acumen.

I firmly believe there is nothing this woman or Harry could do to rebuild their image. This trip shows they are as obsessed with themselves as ever before. The world doesn't like lying shysters. They are this weird combo of him pretending he is a working member of the RF and her selling herself as a celebrity.

So the hundreds of pictures of retired veterans wearing uniforms in the remembrance services posted online are false then? Photoshopped? All turned up without permission? Or perhaps you think they are currently serving at 70 and 80 years old!!

Hence the need to move on and find new audiences.

People are initially dazzled by MM then gradually the penny drops. Australians can answer this better than me but I wonder if the average Australian is fully aware of their (H&MM’s) nonsense.

They’re also faux liberal frauds, when really they very much lean right financially/corporately, politically and socially.

They’re non-redistributive capitalists who would impose a chilling effect on critical voices.
