Isn’t it fortunate The Queen didn’t gift Meghan a welcome to the RF tiara like she did for Fergie?
One can only imagine the times that tiara would be wheeled out!

(I wonder why she didn’t 🤔 - I think Sophie got one too)

Probably the difference between becoming a daughter in law and a grand daughter in law. Meghan and Catherine are lent tiaras instead.

MasterChef does bring in celebrities as one off guest judges. They had Katy Perry on once.

I just don't think given what she sells pre made mixes and how poor/basic her cooking publically has been she an obvious choice.

Fact that they did chose her means they expect to get something from it - more viewers and publicity so TBH she has pulling power of some sort - which TBH is good news for them they have some releveance and stardom left and can possibly make some money to fund their lifestyle.

I suspect that the point of the visit - publicity for them and to make more commerical opportunities - as so many they did have seem to be done - and just to get into the media cycle to remind everyone they exist.

Of course if you are no longer serving you don't have a commander anymore and you go with whatever might be laid down by the event organisers in any instructions.

I'm not sure the writer of that "Royal Observer" piece has quite got their head around the protocols either.

I think in the real world the POV of most veterans regarding an event like ANZAC day would be regardless of whether you are serving or not, and regardless of how long ago you served, you can wear whatever medals you're entitled to, if you want to, but whatever you do don't wear what you are not entitled to....

I don't think H has broken any of those rules but some seem to intent on somehow finding fault.

ANZAC day is on Saturday. Whatever he’s been doing today is not a commemorative event like that or Remembrance. It’s his own private visit as part of his commercial look at me junket.

thenightsky · 16/04/2026 13:18

And I can speak to that really personally, which is why I like to listen, because it rings true for me in a very real way,' Meghan said

Eh?

If it had been on Anzac Day fine but it's over a week away. Laying a wreath as if he has some official public role seems inappropriate although I admit I do not know the military ins and outs with these things. It's just the optics isn't it. Attention seeking and entitled which is his USP.

OK

I'm not keen on the appearance of the trip TBH it sucks...but...back to medals...

If we are on about the wreath laying yesterday in the images I have seen most if not all the main participants I saw were suited and many were wearing medals, not just H...so someone, possibly on the organising side of things, had come up with that as a requirement on the day...that's not H attention seeking..

Yes i get you, it's not just the medals it's him being there in some kind of official role, shaking hands etc. If he attended a service, sat with Vets wearing medals even on actual Anzac day (not over a week before) that would be appropriate but he seems to be hijacking the whole thing.

He isnt a working Royal, he doesn't have an official role. He is a celeb from LA and this fake Royal tour thing is so inappropriate.

Yes, I think that's the crux of it.
He chose to leave the British Army, he chose to stop being a working Royal.
Now he seems to be cosplaying both roles.

I agree. And I don't think it's relevant what Australian vets are wearing. He's subject to the rules he left the British RF under.

My2cents1975 · 16/04/2026 13:49

I have not really been paying much attention to H&M's grifters getaway to Australia. Here in the USA, Tax Day is April 15th so all focus was on that. Iran has also dominated the airwaves interspersed with Congressman Swalwell's sex scandals (California Dem who was lining up to run for Governor. For context, Cali's GDP of $4.2 trillion puts it at 5th in the world on a standalone basis so it is a pretty big deal to govern).

Megxit was always going to have 2 phases of about 5 years each followed by the final phase of irrelevance. The first 5 years was the crash and burn at the top tier of politics (Obamas gone, Bidens gone, Dem party leadership staying away, alienating Republicans) and companies (loss-making at Spotify, Penguin and Netflix).

The next 5 years is the gradual downhill slide as they look to royal cosplay, smaller events and basic merching such as the Girls Weekend (Fyre Festival vibes) while they increasingly compete with the next generation of Royals as seen at Easter. The relentless cosplay in Australia has backfired...there is more negativity. Sadly A&L are the next generation B&E without the benefit of decades of family event appearances (Easter/Christmas/Trooping balcony/Garden parties/Ascot, etc.) but with the baggage of Mr. Mischief and "Ooops I forgot I shared info with Omid for Finding Freedom" as parents.

IMHO, when George hits 18, H&M enter the final phase of irrelevance to youth chasing print/social media. In between Charlotte and whoever George and Louis bring into the firm, rounded out by the Phillips/Tindall/Edinburgh, it will be game-over for H&M. And as their position collapses, the sharks will circle and some of the people who were allegedly bullied by H&M may come back for vengeance.

I agree with this too. I think the point is not whether Harry is technically allowed to wear his medals, as I said previously, or that the Australian vets are wearing theirs, it’s that he is behaving like a working royal in meeting and greeting and wreath laying. In fact, he is no more than the equal of the other veterans. He is an ex serving officer as many of them are, not a representative of the Commander in Chief

22YearsAndCounting · 16/04/2026 14:00

@jeffgoldblumWhen you leave the military you can not wear the uniform again. That’s it! You’re out of service. Nope nope nope! Def NO!! You can not wear the uniform. Unless you’re royalty or some weird royal position.

Medals however, you can wear when the fuck you like! I wore mine to my son’s Passing Out Parade for example.

Some may wear them at veteran funerals or on Remembrance. We can wear them when the fuck we want. We earned them!!!

Would we be judged by other veterans and serving personnel if we went shopping in them? Of course we would, is it illegal? No!

I haven’t looked at Harry’s medals, Don’t give a shit, but if he was serving during the Jubilees and his dad’s coronation, yes he’s entitled to wear them.

notimagain · 16/04/2026 14:11

@Indianrollerbird

. And I don't think it's relevant what Australian vets are wearing. He's subject to the rules he left the British RF under.....

1:Which are...?

2: Local rules/customs are highly relevant at formal events such as this.

If H had rocked up dressed as Admiral of the Fleet and wearing a VC then there quite rightly have been outrage.

As it is he's turned up as Guest of Honour at an event dressed as the civilian he is and wearing medals awarded by the Sovereign, i a w RBL protocols/guidelines,.which appear to be very similar to the protocols the Australian Vets were observing.

I'm still not seeing a "foul".

OctopusFriend · 16/04/2026 14:21

@My2cents1975 - excellent points, I think that's a good summary.

I don't know if I agrere it was always going to go that way it could have gone better if there been some skills to build on- but it clearly on those tracks now.

Them making money while still having some RF limelight left does make sense for them - but doesn't do much for RF generally.

OctopusFriend · 16/04/2026 14:26

I wonder how long they can carry on being victims, though?

TheAutumnCrow · 16/04/2026 14:36

but if he was serving during the Jubilees and his dad’s coronation, yes he’s entitled to wear them.

I never really queried this before, but I had a look and Harry’s got a service medal for being in Afghanistan, three Jubilee medals, a Coronation medal and a KCVO.

He was only serving in the military for one of the Jubilees. Every other medal bar the Afghanistan one was for … being Prince Harry. The KCVO medal (to accompany his unearned knighthood) was a birthday present.

I don’t think he’s wearing his birthday present on this trip, though? Has anyone spotted it?

Ps you are aware those men are not actually wearing suits and are wearing most of their original uniforms?
and it was London remembrance 2015 , did you really search google just to stick it to me?

Edited

Matching jackets, berets, regiment tie and chinos, looks like uniform to me not suits, some may not know the difference. Personally I think he looks an utter cock, in his dress up medals. When hmtlq said no more army dressing up, that's exactly what she meant.

Don't forget you don't need to be in the military to get a medal/awards (look at the number of senior civil servants wearing medals on Whitehall on Rememberance Sunday.)

At least one of the Jubilee medals was awarded to members of the Royal Household and members of the Royal family.
...
So H may well be perfectly entitled to wear Jubilee medals earned 😉when he was not in HM Forces.

We may not like it but thems the rules.

The fact that Australia has rolled out the red carpet really highlights, for me, the fact that America hasn't done that

While I agree, @Not2identifying, I wouldn't have expected America to.
For obvious historical reasons their endless insistence on using titles may actually act against them, which just leaves the usual American respect for those who make a success of themselves or genuinely offer something to the community

And unfortunately H&M don't

I can’t see that Australia has rolled out the red carpet in the real sense. All the visit has been up to now is appearing at hand picked events and the people connected with the event at the time being happy to see them.

OctopusFriend · 16/04/2026 14:49

Yes, I wonder how much money Meghan will make from links to those clothes? It's not been the best wardrobe she's ever worn, tbh.

Mylovelygreendress · 16/04/2026 14:50

IcedPurple · 16/04/2026 12:03

I really don't see where any big money could be made from this 'tour'.

1st class flights to Oz will have cost well into the 5 figures. They presumably won't have been paid for the 'charity' visits. Maybe a fee for the Masterchef appearance and the 'girls' weekend' but hardly vast amounts. I don't see how Meghan is going to make much from commission on clothes either. She's been trying that for a while but doesn't seem to have had much success. Australia is a hell of a long way to go to merch a dress.

Pretty sure I read that they travelled Business Class .

Apparently so, though even that will set you back several thousand dollars (US or Aus, take your pick) per person.

Im of the same mind and liken the entire thing to them playing at being royals in the traditional sense. It’s very similar to when children play what we call ‘hoodies’ in Scotland. You pretend you’re married and you have your house and children. It’s a great game and heavily relies on the children’s imagination. These two are playing their own version of hoosies.

I was just thinking that myself @TheAutumnCrowand retired veterans are allowed to wear their uniforms ( if they have them ) for Remembrance Day ceremonies .
