Do they? Have they? If so, that's beyond a joke!

Around 450,000 people in the Uk have the Platinum Jubilee medal that Jack and Edo were given, by the way. It was also distributed in other countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc) that share the Head of State with the UK.

CrocusesFlowering · 18/03/2026 13:22

@Serenster
Presumably all the others got them for some other reason than just marrying in to the family ?

simpsonthecat · 18/03/2026 13:41

They wear Coronation medals too. Well... I suppose they look good and make someone feel important

Respectfully, skimming a précis someone else researched and wrote for you, giving a speech someone else researched and wrote for you, being driven to the door and saying ‘Have you come far?’ to a series of people is hardly onerous, by the standards of virtually any job.

People say this all the time. It’s very easy to say when this has never been your role though. People who have done this themselves, or worked for people for whom this is a key part of their role (a CEO of a big organisation, for example) have different opinions.

My DH is the CEO of a large organisation. I can assure you he writes his own speeches, and he actually runs the company as well as rocking up places to shake hands with people and deliver those speeches. Also, the speeches are about his industry experiences, innovations etc. There is absolutely no comparison with the kind of tokenistic, ribbon-cutting nonsense the RF do on their charity drive-bys. I’m still waiting to hear instances of all the ‘hard work’ they supposedly do for charities.

CurlewKate · 18/03/2026 13:59

Some of us think the RF are excellent value for money and a net good for the country. Some of us don’t. Never the twain shall meet.

Some of us believe PR and puff pieces. Some of us don’t. Ditto.

I do not know how the Windsors did not see this coming. I remember AMW flying here there and everywhere (on the taxpayers dollar) and thinking decades ago, good god, what is this man doing? He wasn't called Airmiles Andy for nothing.*
Yet the royals did what they always do, stuck their heads in the sand and hope it blows over.*
Because it was covered up by successive governments, and Parliaments who decided to let them just do whatever they liked. It was only the unintended consequences off the MAGA's believing Trumps lies that has led to this. If not for the release of the Epstein files by a foreign government they would have hidden all this for another 50 years, then William would be an old man, and George could say he was a child at the time and they could all have carried on. Now they all have to scramble around leaking stories about how they never liked Andrew and were forced to drive him around/ spend holidays with him/ go riding with him etc.

simpsonthecat · 18/03/2026 16:48

Yes it was covered up by successive governments.

Are they a government department or are they above all that?

Imagine these sort of shenanigans with the Dept of Trade, the Treasury, the Dept for Health, Environment, Work & Pensions, Trade & Industry, MOD, and many more.

The MOD is being investigated as I type for toxic culture, misconduct and an RAF flights review enquiry into Epstein's plane landing at RAF bases.

Why can't there be an investigation into the Monarchy and what they do, or don't do?

Serpentstooth · 23/03/2026 12:37

Come along now, you'd want a medal -at the very least - for marrying into that family wouldn't you?
