Love this photo of Anne at the rugby today . She is such a brilliant supporter of the Scottish Rugby team

It’s not criticism to question their role and their cost effectiveness. Or to question people deciding that one of them is lovely, or down to earth, or hardworking, or a good parent, or whatever, based entirely on PR releases. Or a 30 second interaction. Incidentally, I have a lot of admiration for the Queen’s commitment to combatting VAWG. None of the others, to my knowledge, have even mentioned it.

What has that got to do with Anne at the rugby?

Yep. Rugby fan gets paid for watching rugby…..

I don’t get the point here. Don’t most people opt for occupations that are aligned with their interests and abilities? Are jobs and roles only of value if you actively dislike what you are doing?

What an odd perspective….

Serenster · 08/03/2026 15:54

Fair enough. Tell us then, what is the view of the Scottish Rugby Union about Anne’s cost effectiveness and support for their work? The teams? Their fans? Surely they are the most important stakeholders here?

It’s complicated.

Always someone gotta throw salt and vinegar over a lovely sugary, tasty, appealing cake. 🙄

They've got their arms out as if they're about to have a great big hug. But I'm guessing that didnt happen? He's probably quite sweaty at this point so I don't blame her

Edited

If you didn’t see the whole interaction between them it is worth checking out - it demonstrates the shared humour and respect between Scottish Captain Sione Tuipulotu and Anne - they are both joking about the protocol that she doesn’t hug people.

Then maybe take your blinkers off and look at Sophie’s work.

Sophie helps sexual and gender-based violence victims on Somalia visit

Sophie, 61, spent two days in the east African country at the request of the Foreign Office and first arrived into the capital city of Mogadishu on February 23.

You’re right-I forgot Sophie. And she appeared to be very nice the couple of times I’ve met her.

Did we ever find out what the complicated narrative was in respect of Catherine’s cancer?

Go Away GIF by NETFLIX

There are some people for whom any narrative aside from their preferred one is far too complicated to understand.

Their sole purpose is to spew bitterness and hatred to derail anything that does not focus on their pet issues.

Best to ignore and move on.

Ohnobackagain · 08/03/2026 16:45

@Mylovelygreendress always liked
her since she rode in the Olympics, and appeared on Question of Sport and ended up clouting Emlyn Hughes with her handbag 🤣🤣🤣

simpsonthecat · 08/03/2026 17:54

I am no fan of any royal but respect Anne for her obvious love of Scottish Rugby, she has been patron of Scotland RU for decades. So it's obvious her love for the game is very genuine. She is always present at their matches.

Being a rugby nut myself, I get that.

I was at Six Nations matches last year, this year it didn't work out for me.

In a less discreet moment, chats I’ve had with staff at two Scottish royal residences have made it clear that she is the staff’s absolute favourite, ‘nae bother’ and missed when not there. Says quite a lot…..

What they had to say about visiting politicians though …… 🤣

HandfulOfMoths · 08/03/2026 19:14

I am no royalist but she is the best by a landslide. And as a Scottish rugby fan I’m delighted she’s the one we have. Love her natural camaraderie with Sione and also her with John Davidson. Anne for Queen!

CathyorClaire · 08/03/2026 20:58

Not getting the Anne love.

Yes she does the most 'engagements' but they total around two month's FTE of the whole six months the entire lot sweat away at.

She's raised a couple of grifting chancers who'd hold their own against any grasping cousin in a greed-off, she's been fined for dangerous driving offences and criminally convicted over her aggressive dogs biting kids.

Quite draw dropping she's regarded as the the dream usurper.

mathanxiety · 08/03/2026 21:08

TeenToTwenties · 08/03/2026 06:44

Reread your last sentence. She cuts more ribbons than the rest of them and rewears clothes.

What that means in reality is she has more organisations she is involved with and takes an interest in and visits, and she isn't showy and wasteful. She is hardworking.

Additionally she had the sense to not have titles for her children so they could grow up more 'normal' given how far away from succession they would be.

But the ribbon cutting and the 'being involved with' various organisations - is that really work?

And if it is work, what the heck is it that the rest of the population does?

What’s your definition of work? Very few of us work down the mines these days, of course.

Does it involve time and energy, intentionally expended? Is the output valued by the recipients? If yes, sounds like work of some form to me.

OllyBJolly · 08/03/2026 22:27

I think you had to have seen the Calcutta Cup presentation for context. Sione leaned in to hug Princess Anne and she dodged back. It was initially awkward but they both laughed it off. The Auld Alliance trophy was a follow on from that and they just played it up.

I think it was that match when the cameras panned over to Princess Anne and the crowd just cheered. She looked genuinely confused and then rather embarrassed when she was told she was the subject of the cheering.

I'm very anti monarchy but find it hard to dislike Princess Anne. She was born into the RF and has done her best to live her own life within its constraints. She puts her brothers to shame.

She's genuinely a great supporter of Scottish Rugby. I met her at a reception before a game and she honestly seemed genuinely excited - and way more optimistic than most for a Scottish win. Unfortunately her optimism was misplaced on that occasion....

MarchionessVonSausage · 08/03/2026 22:31

Having RTFT I still like her.

I'm Australian and don't follow the rugby; either here or in the UK. I think there are 2 types, league & union?

Mike Tindall played union, yes? This was an interesting video to watch, if only to see them all together. It's from several years ago but jeez PA seems quite knowledgeable.

Respectfully I disagree on this occasion! , still love you and your driving opinions though.

Is she not a completely standard horsy woman with rather bad manners? I don’t think I get the adulation. She cuts more ribbons than the rest of them and rewears clothes.

Yeah, she does her job ok, but she seems pretty charmless to me.

MarchionessVonSausage · 09/03/2026 02:24

Just on PA having two children who are grifters- hmm, yeah perhaps.

However, at least Zara & Mike can claim their sponsorships are a result of their world-class sporting achievements.

Peter Phillips perhaps not.

I do think it’s naive to suggest that their sponsorships are because of their sporting achievements alone!

MarchionessVonSausage · 09/03/2026 21:36

@CurlewKate Yes you're probably right!

Take Zara for instance. Training as an equestrian is not a cheap hobby. Had she not had access to her own stables and pick of the best horses, etc etc...

She & Mike have sponsorships for all sorts of things. This mob for one:

When I say mob, I mean mob (ahem).

Lovely jewels though. Wouldn't mind a few of those pink diamonds 👌
