This is why nothing will ever change. AMW will be buried alive somewhere in sandringham, may appear at KC3’s funeral and will disappear again. His daughters may be rehabilitated in the future because william will need them. The hiding of wealth will continue.

AlwaysRightISwear · 11/03/2026 22:14

I don't think he'll be allowed at the funeral.

Why will William need them ?

Help carry the slack.

William is is a damned if you do or don't situation.

If he doesn't streamline the Monarchy, people will be dissatisfied with the current set up, especially after the flagrant abuses of the system.

On the other hand if he does streamline the Royal Family, there are far less people to do the work and the lack of engagement and the lesser profile publicly means people are disaffected with the RF and don't really engage with it anymore. The march towards a full republic speeds up.

But I don't see people ever really accepting B & E as future working royals now all the stuff about their finances is coming out, I don't think they can be rehabilitated.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/03/2026 23:37

If W needs support I think he is far more likely to call upon Zara and Mike or - in due course - Louise. By that time George will be older.
Anne will carry on for at least another 10 years and the Edinburghs 20 ( health permitting).

NewAgeNewMe · 12/03/2026 06:30

Edward never looks well to me. Not in a horrible way. In a way I do. I never look well, as I’m beset by so many health conditions.

Each of their own, are doable, but add them all together and they take their toll on my face and body.

Hence why I’m on MN so much, I’m usually on bedrest for some such or other!

I may be wrong about him though.

simpsonthecat · 12/03/2026 07:25

Zara and Mike will never ever get involved in royal duties, except showing their face at a Royal garden party or in a carriage at Ascot. They lead a very charmed life, they spend a lot of time in Australia and to be honest they are not the slightest bit formal or royal, like royals do it. Have a look at pics of them in Oz! And do we really want an ex rugby player podcaster with a bit of a dodgy past doing royal duties?

And didn't I read somewhere that Louise has already said she doesn't want to do royal duties? Or maybe Sophie hinted that, can't remember.

I agree. I don’t think any of them look well actually. Edward is very very thin. I wouldn’t want their life for anything. The stress and scrutiny just be appalling. No amount of mansions and holidays compensates .

I'm not sure what benefit these visits are. The RF are incredibly wealthy. If Sophie for eg wanted to highlight VAWG she could do what millions of volunteers do and do it without being paid for it ( and is what non working Royals, celebs etc do), and without people having to be pulled away from their actual work to stand around bobbing and answering questions. So could the rest of them. If they as they insist, are a close family, then there is no reason they can't be invited to family occasions like weddings, funerals, banquets like other people who get invited to banquets without being on the payroll. That is what people like- the spectacle of them. Kids are already being forced out of school to bulk out the crowds and the people who turn up at Sandringham are widely seen as crackpots and American tourists. Crown Estates should take over the Duchies and be properly run and scrutinised, many of their 20 homes can be opened up as tourist attractions, wedding venues, rented out for people to actually live in and maintain etc. Stick the art up in Buckingham Palace and open it all year round . I'm sure 2 families can scrape by on £100m a year. The HoS and heir and their spouses should be the only ones with any kind of HRH, no immunity from prosecution, no tax breaks, no rights to exempt themselves from the law and a max 2 houses each with one office dealing with all engagements professionally, not hundreds of staff who seem so underworked and useless they seem to spend their time turning a blind eye to criminal activity and gossiping to the press.

simpsonthecat · 12/03/2026 09:15

RainbowBagels

Absolutely. It is the bloated nature of what we have now that gets me. SG rising more and more (because of Duchy profits), less of them doing anything, why do we need it like this? Cut the cash.

I so agree with the Sophie and VAWG and charity work of Royals. Just be like others, turn up, do a shift with no fanfare and leave. We are a nation of volunteers and all the better for it. Millions of unpaid volunteers, unsung heroes.

It's all about PR and photos and keeping the ailing Monarchy going, that's the problem.

What? Will Mike Tindall suddenly become a 'working royal'? Who on earth would turn up to watch him cutting a ribbon??

I think he'd be offered the opportunity and probably seated somewhere between a pillar and St Anne's hat feather if he took it but I wonder if he'd want to be there.

Not much love lost between those bros these days.

no one I would think. (maybe rugby fans?)
I don't think PW will need extra working royals. he will just have to be one.

CathyorClaire · 12/03/2026 10:01

If W has any sense at all he won't be adding hangers on like the increasingly discredited York sisters and the grifting Tindalls to the roster.

Who'd want to see the furlough claiming Mike pretending to care about the littles?

CathyorClaire · 12/03/2026 10:03

Agreed.

Especially if he wants to keep his skimming at the level it is now.

Oh look, did I just see a pig flying past?

I've no doubt he works on his property portfolio to increase its value.

Anything else, not so much.

MidWayThruJanuary · 12/03/2026 10:11

Realistically the RF may just die out - in 10 years there will be William and Kate, maybe Edward and Sophie. George will be 23, Charlotte 21 and Louis 18. That's it.

The Sovereign Grant is not related to Duchy profits. It is related to Crown Estate profits.

simpsonthecat · 12/03/2026 13:03

Crown Estate then. Simple mistake when typing quickly.

Hmmm, QE2 applied for a poverty grant to heat the palaces and it had to be explained that it was for schools, hospitals and grants for low income families.

They will always try.

Well they're all out of work living on state benefits in one of the lowest council tax properties in the country.
