Wow. Wonder if they put hand cuffs on him.

1apenny2apenny · 19/02/2026 10:30

This is good news however, and this sounds very conspiracy theorist, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this is simply play acting to take the heat off the RF.

Look over here - we’ve done something, we’re allowing the process to take its course. Meanwhile he’ll be arrested and then released quickly on bail and nothing will be found or nothing they can use/don’t have enough proof. I’m telling you there is no way Andrew is going to be made to testify in court and go to prison. It’s all to keep the serfs happy.

Sorry but I don’t trust the RF and I certainly don’t trust the police.

PrincessScarlett · 19/02/2026 10:30

I doubt very much he will face any prison time even if convicted of a crime. He deserves to go to prison but I think given who he is he will still get preferential treatment.

Viviennemary · 19/02/2026 10:30

When I saw this on some news feed I thought it was a scam. Unbelievable!!!

I’m not sure you can be arrested for having sex with a minor in another country, especially as over the age of consent here. I am also not sure they can prove it as he keeps saying he didn’t, as he would and Virgina took the pay out, to not proceed further,

what they have done though is hugely serious and carries a much heavier tariff,

Yes. Frustrating as it is that it seems there is nothing that can be done legally any the sex stuff, this appears to be a far more serious, and easier to prove, charge.

My thoughts on the fact money appears to be a more serious charge than offences against women will remain unexpressed, but they are rather strong and sweary.

Vaxtable · 19/02/2026 10:30

@LizzieSiddal

he’s been arrested for misconduct in public office. Not any sexual misconduct. And as yet he has not been charged

Ihateboris · 19/02/2026 10:31

Vaxtable · 19/02/2026 10:28

Just because he has been arrested doesn’t mean he will be charged with anything. It all needs to play out

It's a bloody good start though..Don’t you agree?

Buscobel · 19/02/2026 10:31

I hope it’s not been done in an attempt at appeasement and the hope that it will shut everyone up. It needs to have proper evidence behind it and the sense that he will be held accountable, not just a token gesture.

simpsonthecat · 19/02/2026 10:31

Of course they had knowledge! To say otherwise is bizarre!

No, not of everything, they were not reading all his emails. But there was so much that was brought to the attention of QE2 at the time and those saying there was a problem were sent off with a flea in their ear.

Let's not pretend the Palace was in complete ignorance.

Just to correct this, being a royal over 'millennia' has usually and very often come with huge ramifications for breaking whatever law was deemed at the time. People literally lost their lives over it. Not just monarchs, their siblings, cousins, wives, aristocrats

To suggest they've been untouchable throughout history is ridiculous.

Ok I could correct that to recent history.
Lord Louis Mountbatten got away with child sex offences.

However are you honestly saying royals and their supporters have never got away with crimes others would have been in serious trouble for?

Marmalademorning · 19/02/2026 10:32

On his birthday as well 🎂

A horrific outcome would be if they simply charge him for wrongdoing in public office, eg passing on some info during his days as trade envoy. Then he essentially gets trialled and punished for eyes of the public but it's a slap on the wrist compared to the other crimes and trafficking.

A conspiracy side thinks this may have been previously agreed upon, or the best solution Charles could come up with. He gets arrested for a minor white collar crime and the rest is just glossed over. One can only hope that once things get to a court of law, someone in there has a sense of justice and common sense and does their best to bash out all the other charges.

Edited

Whatever Andrew may or may not have done, I really don’t think he can be accused of trafficking. He’s an entitled buffoon, and in his younger days was used to girls throwing themselves at him, and it probably wouldn’t have crossed his tiny mind that any of the girld were anything other than delighted to be with him. Passing on confidential government information, however, is an entirely different matter (and also far easier to prove - suspicion doesn’t cut it in court). Mandelson has to be next.

LizzieSiddal · 19/02/2026 10:27

Yes but it does carry up to a life sentence so I’m hoping he’s sweating in fear at this very moment.

He'll be furious yes, but no, he wont get a life sentence, as someone says above, the impact of his behaviour wont (not likely to be) be significant enough for a custodial sentence, he might progress to trial, I'll not hold my breath though

When it flashed up on the telly I thought it was about assualt, when they said 'misconduct in a public office' I thought 'meh'.

sprigatito · 19/02/2026 10:32

I think he’s been arrested on the slightly blander (but still quite hefty!) offence of MIAPO, but they will be using the opportunity of having him in custody to question him intensively about the trafficking via Stansted etc. I think he’s comprehensively fucked this time tbh.

Vaxtable · 19/02/2026 10:30

Well misconduct in public office is serious enough to be banged up...I've got everything crossed

OvaHere · 19/02/2026 10:33

Great news. Disappointing it's not also for the other allegations but I'll take it.

hedgeknight · 19/02/2026 10:33

Good!

52andblue · 19/02/2026 10:33

MrsLeonFarrell · 19/02/2026 10:03

It's interesting and it feels a bit like Al Capone going down for tax evasion in some ways.

My first thought too.
Also, arrested is a very long way from prosecuted.(& it's re £ not sexual crimes when he should be being arrested for both)
He will be cleared I imagine.
If for no other reason than KCIII loaned him a big chunk of the £12M paid to Virginia Guiffre. What does that say about KC judgement? 'Down with the Crown'? Those in power will not want to risk that. So, he will be cleared imo.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2026 10:33

IdaGlossop · 19/02/2026 10:26

Misconduct in public office is a serious crime that can carry a life sentence. Him being arrested for that offence doesn't preclude him being arrested for crimes related to sex trafficking or sex with a minor,

This is true, IdaGlossop, but if it really is a palace-engineered stunt to make it look as if "something's being done" they may be hoping it'll be enough

As for a PP's comment about various other police services investigating, on something like this there'll obviously be coordination, so perhaps they'll let TVP take the lead and hope to sit back?

Indigovelvet · 19/02/2026 10:34

GOOD STUFF!

nunsflipflop · 19/02/2026 10:34

The police are also raiding royal residences in Windsor and Norfolk

Fraudornot · 19/02/2026 10:34

Does anyone know if staff who have signed NDAs can break them if interviewed by police? I’m sure palace staff will have some intel

JSMill · 19/02/2026 10:34

This made me smile.

dapsnotplimsolls · 19/02/2026 10:28

I think the RF will say nothing or make a bland statement about an inability to say anything.

Im not sure, I think they'll say (or should say) that they support the police in any investigation. Shows respect for the law, for the police and willingness to engage.

They dont have to specify its about him, more that 'this is appropriate and we support the law'

CountryMouse22 · 19/02/2026 10:35

He'll probably be on house arrest.
