I should have added, not only leeching, but being a total and utter embarrassment to the country, the government who he was representing and to the monarchy.

The MoS ran a story yesterday about how, in 2001, Andrew was visiting the Emirates and was invited to attend a reception for a British defence company. An important member of their RF was attending and it was very important that Andrew welcomed him etc. The consulate and the FO agreed with Andrew’s team that he would go directly to him and spend ten minutes with him and receive the gift he was bringing. Instead Andrew arrived through a completely different entrance and greeted whoever he felt like. The VIP was left waiting an hour. Andrew completely ignored what he was told to do. What was the point of him if he couldn’t do what he was told?

I can only imagine that Andrew had the ear of Her Majesty, and let it be known to everyone around him that he wouldn’t hesitate to run to her and complain about people.

And QEII in turn let it be known through her private secretary that she would never entertain any kind of criticism of her second son; and that officials, if they knew what was good for them, would comply with her wishes for a quiet life without unpleasantness.

I can’t understand why the government and their officials condoned what Andrew got up to on his Trade Envoy jaunts. Yes, the RF need to give answers, but the governments who facilitated him, despite their own officials feeding back to them how corrupt he was, did nothing, just let him run wild leeching off the taxpayers they were supposed to represent and who had put them in government. This was long before the Epstein scandal cut him off at the knees. David Cameron then publicly supported him when Andrew’s links to Epstein were exposed.

Absolutely. I hope Cameron and Osborne also have the smug smiles wiped off their faces by being hauled in front of a Judicial committee to explain not only the Trade Envoy stuff but their dreadful negotiations of the Sovereign Grant and negotiating one sided contracts that mean the NHS and MoD handing millions over to the Duchy for decades to come. At the same time as they were closing Surestart Centres and gleefully implementing austerity for the rest of us.

I agree, no one cedes power willingly!
The more power you have the greater will be your desire to hang on to it. Royalty are appointed by god there is no greater power than that.
I'm not suggesting that they are actually appointed by God (or that there is a God) but people who believe in the monarchy act as if they are appointed by God.

Actually at the moment I think it's politicians who have been behaving as if the monarch were absolute and appointed by Gid. Why else did they let Andrew keep his role for so long?

Diclofenac · 23/02/2026 17:15

Mandelson also arrested now

Good! About time, when are they hauling Tony Blair in for questioning?

Good! About time, when are they hauling Tony Blair in for questioning?

I was wondering the same. He surely has a lot of questions to answer?

MidWayThruJanuary · 23/02/2026 18:22

And David Cameron.

bluegreygreen · 23/02/2026 18:23

And George Osborne

jeffgoldblum · 23/02/2026 18:30

Realistically I think we all know the answer to our questions! 😡

CathyorClaire · 23/02/2026 21:23

bluegreygreen · 23/02/2026 18:23

And George Osborne

We should never forget the chief cheerleader for never reducing royal funding.

From what I have gleaned, KC3 has completely cut AMW adrift. There will be no protection from that quarter.

Back in the olden days KC3 would have had AMW dropped into an oubliette. Somewhere out of the way in the Sandringham estate was intended as the modern equivalent.

Except that each new revelation from the Epstein files has made 'a retreat from public life' impossible. No doubt each time something new has come out AMW has said 'no, there's nothing more'. Except there has been.

KC3 may well not know but does suspect that there is more and it's worse.

Thedom · 25/02/2026 09:46

Looks like the trade Envoy files will finally be released, no doubt with plenty of redactions, but it’s a start.
