Support for Monarchy dwindling

TheHaplessWit · 10/02/2026 09:46

Support for Monarchy now down to 45%

Following on from the previous yougov polls, it seems the constant negativity about Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, William dodging tax / evicting people, Charles ignoring his brothers actions etc... has pushed royal support down to 45%.

How long until a future election process includes a party saying they'll have a referrendum on the Monarchy as part of their manifesto? probably not next time (3 years), but maybe the one after that?

Blow for Royal Family amid Epstein scandal as support reaches tipping point

A new survey has suggested that support for the Royal Family is dwindling amid the ongoing Epstein scandal that has prompted Buckingham Palace to issue an unprecedented statement that the Royals will support the police if approached

I think at this stage I'd want proof that KC did not part fund the settlement. That would mean proof of the names (and amounts) of others who did. How could I be expected to believe anything they say without some sort of proof FGS? Words are not enough for me now.

This is the problem. Andrew and Sarah have been caught lying time and time again. On record in interviews and statements. Looking at a camera and lying through their teeth.
Unfortunately, it has a knock on effect with members of the royal family. I am dubious about everything they say. And I'm never 100% believing what they say.

Dappy777 · 13/02/2026 13:48

I loathe the lot of them (and I’m mildly conservative and fairly patriotic). But my pride in being British comes from Shakespeare and Jane Austen and Dickens and Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin and the Brontes and so on. I take more pride in David Bowie and the Beatles than I do in that bunch of ugly, vulgar, snorting gargoyles. Harry is basically an ignorant little yob with a posh accent. We should never have brought them back in the 1660s.

ScholesPanda · 13/02/2026 13:50

45% in support of continuity. 32% in favour of an elected head of state. At a time where the Kings brother is accused of being a paedophile.

And it's the republican side who'd have to come up with a cohesive replacement and sell it to the public. But as you see every time in the threads, half of them just want to sneer and call people names, and act as if it's the other way around.

Bring on the referendum- I'm sure the republicans haven't been this confident since the day before the Brexit referendum.

Agree
And it’s also worth noting why the money the Dun says he was given was passed over to Andrew. ( if it was that is )

for example

that copied piece from the Sun article also states some of the money came from Prince Phillip,
Just a statement Nothing more.
Is the Sun and Times referring to the money Andrew inherited on his death which all the children got ?

Or is it some direct payment specifically for the settlement. The article suggests by omission the later. That’s how I read it
The fact is, they don’t know

Yes Agree
Think we’re back to square one on this

but I’m one of those irritating mumsnetters constantly asking for the source and stats. I’ve probably got a bad name for that on here 🤣🤣
note to self ..change username 😆

Nobody should mind being asked for sources if they have made a statement as factual, I doubt that would make you unpopular or irritating but 🤷‍♀️ , I don’t think I’m particularly popular either! 🤣

I don’t disagree but I would leave David Bowie out ( some unpleasant things circulating) .

Actually of course the Sun and Times do know
Prince Phillip died in April 2021 the settlement in March 2022
so despite the article he can’t have knowingly given money to Andrew directly for the settlement

What a web the papers weave

Ukisgaslit · 13/02/2026 14:00

No @DrPrunesqualer it was from Philips estate .

Oh excellent spot @DrPrunesqualer! , I admit I didn’t notice that!!! 👏

simpsonthecat · 13/02/2026 14:08

It says in various places it was from his Estate. Of course we don't know how that works given his Will was sealed. But he didn't personally give it to Andrew!

I imagine there was some sort of bequest that was sidelined to Andrew for this.

The will is sealed for 90 years
and only guesswork that all his kids were given money at all

When was the lawsuit filed?Virginia Giuffre filed her civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in August 2021

approx four months after Phillips death

so my pure guess is that any ?? money from Phillip was just his inheritance to use as he wished

simpsonthecat · 13/02/2026 14:18

I would think there would be trusts of some sort. He did not have the benefit of no IHT Monarch to Heir that QE2 had.
The sealing of the Will had to be applied for, it wasn't automatic but of course it happened.

So logically speaking if we had to speculate then Andrew used money from his own inheritance to pay some of the settlement then , I do wish media would state things clearly instead of using language that makes things sound different from reality!

Ukisgaslit · 13/02/2026 14:21

The man who donated to Earthshot has been sacked by his government

Still silence from William

I do not read the Daily Mail but I saw someone quote a Daily mail writer who said ‘Williams trademark irritated silence cannot continue’

Irritated silence . That’s him to a t.
That’s exactly his response to questions about the Windsors and Epstein .

We really don't know that. As you say, that is speculation.
I could speculate that Edward & Anne were asked to use their Philip money too!

Who knows.

Well leaving aside that speculation about Anne and Edward would be odd because the sun didn’t name them , they did mention Phillip contributing to the settlement, seeing as we now know he died before the case was even filed and definitely before the settlement, it appears quite obvious that any money from him was either an inheritance or bequest, and seeing that he was already dead how could he possibly sideline it for something that he didn’t know about 🤷‍♀️

simpsonthecat · 13/02/2026 14:33

I do not understand your post. I don't read the Sun, I understood this was from his estate.
Nowhere have I said Philip sidelined it for this pay off.

When I said this "I imagine there was some sort of bequest that was sidelined to Andrew for this" I meant Edward and Anne's bequests. At the request perhaps of QE2

Bottom line, we will never know.

well exactly
but this is the Sun playing guesswork again and pandering to their readers

and the Sun and the Times are both owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Well another government has acted on this

A statement is needed. But all we get is ‘irritated silence’

simpsonthecat · 13/02/2026 14:45

It makes total sense to me, let's leave it there shall we? Much the best idea. You speculate too you know as you said. I am not going to get into a backwards and forwards with you, there is no point.

I suppose we can all pluck any old Royal name from the hat and blame them.
I blame King Willem-Alexander

Why not
Its a free for all in the papers
