Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

FloridaCheese · 09/01/2026 13:30

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

It’s made me cringe

ILoveFC · 09/01/2026 20:45

Just taken a look. What a beautiful video that was, I loved it.

I wasn't aware that taxpayer money funded Molly Mae or Stacey Solomon?

That wasn't the point- it was the level of people's appetites.

andIsaid · 09/01/2026 20:36

And BOOM.

This is where she could make a massive difference. She is good at sports and could really promote girls in sports, advantage of sports, money on sports etc.

She could also do a massive amount for British manufacturing and fashion. Like - why the heck do she and Camilla carry Chanel bags? Promote British FFS.

look at Queen Mary in where ever she is - massive push on domestic fashion always. Same with the Spanish.

She could do so much if she did what she is naturally inclined to.

I’m sure I read recently that she had saved a small handbag makers by carrying their bags, so I don’t think that’s true.

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 20:54

It's Strathberry @TwillTrousers

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 20:57

@andIsaid you don't know about Catherine's involvement in England rugby and the Red Roses? She's often at Twickenham not only at games.

Oy, Kate, would you mind my kids for an hour (or loan me one of your Norlanders) while I go running my hands through a stream please. I can't bring the blighters with me, they'd destroy that nature in a minute and would miss their ipads and get cranky. Thanks a million love.

How about when they are at school? Or when your partner has them? Or even with them ?

beigeybeige · 09/01/2026 21:00

Oh FFS
Leave her alone. she’s earned her right to make videos about nature being healing because she’s been through something incredibly fucking shit.

Also, the video looked pretty and was well made. Fair play to her. And people should be able to find a bit of solace in doing creative things if they want, a series of videos isn’t hurting anyone. It makes other people look very small minded to see some of the snooty posts on here about this.

jumpingthehighjump · 09/01/2026 20:25

I just think (my opinion only!) if I was doing this sort of video for worldwide recognition talking about engaging with nature and running my hand through a stream I would probably not wear a ring worth up to a million!

That's all. I would have a good think about how it looked.

It was like when Meghan went to the Harlem school in a 10,000 dollar outfit plus jewellery and donated some cushions for her to sit on?

wordler · 09/01/2026 21:03

According to the woman who runs ‘what Kate wore’ website her favourite handbags are majority British brands alongside a fondness for Italian brand Tod - looks like she mainly used the Chanel bag for the French visits.

What would make her more relatable would you say?

It’s hard to say, to be honest. I do think that her past lack of work/career really goes against her. Pp beat me to it, remarking how unusual it is for a woman her age - and with an excellent education - to have so little work experience. She can’t change that now, and I’m not one of the ‘lazy Kate’ brigade, but I feel she hasn’t really carved out a niche for herself. I’m very sorry she’s been ill, but sadly, that in itself doesn’t make her unusual.

Maybe I’m being unreasonable. I don’t dislike
her, but yes there is something Marie Antoinette about this. As I said, I’m generally a RF supporter, so not coming at this with an anti-Royal agenda, let alone a republican one.

The arrogance in these types of posts blows my mind - there is no will to understand the grinding nature of poverty.

I mean - just go out in nature and watch your blood pressure drop.
Where - if in inner city somewhere Ville? How - most parents work 27/7 to keep a roof over heads. Most hands should not go into rivers, most outside of the walled estates are polluted.

Eat well and see obesity drop - be responsible! How in inner city somewhere Ville? A mother who cannot afford anything, and has to get young children up flights of stairs cannot also drag bags of healthy potatoes and carrots up. She also has to contend with the criminals who see her progeny as economic units to be exploited. I suppose she should not have children?

The MINORITY live well.

Approxinmately 30 % of British children live in poverty.

We need to really think about that - rich as we are.

The Duchess could do a LOT if she got serious for a second.

Wandering around one of the 800,000 acres of land that they own/control, opining about the value of this and that is not the way.

I don't think any one person can solve all of those issues can they? Royal Family, politician or ordinary person. All of us can do a little bit though and hope that it Will help. Just moaning about it achieves nothing. What do you do to help?

Glitterbiscuits · 09/01/2026 21:09

Who is her audience for this?
It’s so self indulgent. It’s utterly meaningless.
If Meghan had done such a thing she’d be ripped to shreds.

Catherine needs to develop a personality and some spark. She is so incredibly bland. I don’t know of anyone who really has an opinion about her.

Lack of work experience - yet she has to be a bit of a "jack of all trades " in entertaining people like the various wives and world leaders. She is involved in so much. I think I would be daunted having to converse and be knowledgeable about all these people. You could say " this is her job" now. Do you really think working as say a filing clerk in an office would have given her more authenticity?

I think most of her fashion is from British designers, isn’t it? Jenny Packham being a particular favourite. As well as frequently wearing Alexander McQueen, Emelia Wickstead, Catherine Walker. I have seen her wear non-British designers when there are state visits too, eg Chanel and Dior during the French state visit. That’s good diplomacy. But I am not sure Catherine can be credibly accused of not promoting British brands just because of a Chanel handbag. She’s also worn British high street brands like Reiss in the past and generated huge sales for them.

I’m all for girls in sport, having a child who competed at national level and having run a sports club (nightmare!). However, I am also a girl guide leader, and mindful that physical activity and getting out and about and traditional sport are not the same thing. I am sensitive to the many girls who have come through my unit who have been intimidated by traditional “sport” through bad experiences in school and/or because of physical impairment, but have enjoyed being physically active in other ways. Going out into nature is always a huge favourite in my unit, and we do it in big and small ways. Something I learned to do myself as a very poor, immigrant child who did not live in the leafy countryside. I think Catherine’s work with Scouts has promoted getting out and about over traditional sport, and as such has been more inclusive. But she’s also patron of the All England Tennis Association, so she has a role promoting young people in traditional sport as well.

Meghan has tried to but she can't stop talking about herself sadly.

It’s pretty obvious what the royal job is. Charity work and to represent the UK at soft power occasions. What don’t people understand about that?

Absolutely you couldn’t pay me to do the royals’ job. Bloody stressful and zero privacy. Restrictions on your life, on your kids’ lives, your whole family, like us normies could never imagine, for all of their life. Awful.
So these envy posts and ‘lazy’ jibes at someone who’s still cracking on with all of that even after cancer, come over quite wierd.

Perhaps if you'd brought your children up differently better they wouldn't be so dependent on gawping at their ipads and would enjoy going for a walk with you. Many many children enjoy being outside in nature and don't trash it as you say yours would.

Haven’t watched the video. But the last one made me a little bit sick in my mouth so I’m leaving f it at that

True, and I think she does a good job. I don’t think she is very relatable though. That’s what I was responding to. Even the late Queen, in a vastly different era, did things like driving during WWII. Was it partly for PR, with choreographed photo opportunities? Of course, but it allowed people to relate to her differently.

oocooloo · 09/01/2026 21:25

Do some people not get the tongue in cheek "nature" (ha ha) of posts anymore?

DappledThings · 09/01/2026 21:27

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 19:28

People who are taking this as a standalone video are not going to understand and so the comments will continue. Perhaps Mr Google might help comprehension.

It's got nothing to do with it. I've seen all the videos. They are all the same GCSE level creative writing exercise that's a load of nice sounding sentiments but actually don't mean anything significant and some lovely shots of countryside. Inoffensive but completely twee and pointless.

Aethelredtheunsteady · 09/01/2026 21:38

She’s the president of Scouts. She’s done a number of events with Scouts promoting the outdoors and young people making the most of getting out and doing physical activities (including sport).

Interesting - maybe it would have been an idea to include some of this in the video?

Actually as a big rugby fan I thought it was incredibly disappointing how, as patron of England rugby, she barely went to any World Cup games and missed watching them win the trophy.
