Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

It’s pretty obvious what the royal job is. Charity work and to represent the UK at soft power occasions. What don’t people understand about that?

Absolutely you couldn’t pay me to do the royals’ job. Bloody stressful and zero privacy. Restrictions on your life, on your kids’ lives, your whole family, like us normies could never imagine, for all of their life. Awful.
So these envy posts and ‘lazy’ jibes at someone who’s still cracking on with all of that even after cancer, come over quite wierd.

Surely it would therefore be kinder to retire them all and become a republic? There are always people on these sorts of threads saying how hard it is but they're happy to doom the next generation to it. Surely if you're a genuine fan of the royals you wouldn't want Louis, Charlotte, George etc to have to go through the same awful existence? Seems cruel to me.

Interesting - maybe it would have been an idea to include some of this in the video?

Maybe. But she’s promoted their work in other videos/events, so it’s not as if she’s ignored promoting children and physical activity outside. The latest video was aimed at all ages and the mental health of all, not just kids.,

Boudy · 09/01/2026 21:47

@jumpingthehighjump I remember that. I also often wonder about them.

TheOneForMe · 09/01/2026 21:49

It was self indulgent and contrived, but so were the other videos, so I didn’t expect anything else.

In fairness to her, she may not see her next birthday or many more birthdays so if this is what she wants to put out, let her. I think it’s more likely that the PR team have told her too though which is pretty sick.

I think it’s because this specific video was a four part series called Mother Nature which launched last Spring on Mental Health Awareness week to both raise awareness of the positive impacts of being outside on mental health, and a tribute to how we interact with our natural environement.

If you’ve been following the whole series it makes more sense because it was explained much more directly on the first video.

I think the mistake was publishing Winter on her birthday because it was sort of being reported as her birthday video - which would have made more sense to be more of a bio video of her favourite patronages rather than what seemed to some people as an obscure nature portrait.

I think it depends how they are being brought up - when Edward abdicated it was seen as something shameful to put a personal want above duty and service.

But it’s not something any of them HAVE to do.

If they are brought up with the option of stepping aside shame free to pursue a different life, or not to have to produce an heir if they don’t want to have children for example then it’s not such a terrible burden with all the privilege that comes with it.

I've been aware of all of them as they've been released but still don't see the point of them/think the supposed point doesn't really come across.

I still think it comes across as incredibly tone deaf/hypocritical to be promoting access to nature when it's been widely reported that a consequence of their new home means a children's nature education centre has been closed.

Thank you. Yes it was a moment in time, but so hard for that young family without a mum to cope

I’ve really liked them and I’m definitely not the only one, especially away from this particular thread.

And I like people trying something new when creating content. It doesn’t always land, it’s sometimes a bit marmite like this series, but that’s what’s interesting about modern media - there’s room to explore.

Beanfiend · 09/01/2026 22:01

Ahh you bunch of misery guts. I just watched the whole series for the first time and it’s beautiful! Look at the world we live in!

Honestly I just wish trump and putin and all these mental men should just wake one morning (preferably tomorrow) and open the curtains and just think fucking hell I am alive, on this incredible planet. Look at this beauty and this short time I am here and let’s just enjoy it.

I think that’s what Kate’s trying to say. It’s a message of gratitude, peace and hope through light diplomacy.

I liked it.
I think it's true that when you have been through a very serious illness, presumably at times worried about the possibility of death and leaving your children motherless and have come through, you are so much more aware of nature and the rhythms of life and seasons and appreciate it so much more. Being outside in nature also has proven benefits for mental well-being. I would doubt she would have made this type of film had she not had cancer.

I agree that she is being built up to take her place as the next Queen. It's successful, the latest poll shows that she is the most popular royal, with William second.

As I understand it she didn't have cancer. She had some cancerous cells found in whatever was removed (?womb) and had 'just in case' chemo.

Where are you understanding that from?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/01/2026 22:47

Has Catherine released her medical records? I must have missed that.

That is how she explained it herself in front of the cameras which we all saw and listened to.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/01/2026 22:58

This thread and the claims about Catherine not having cancer remind me of when the same was said of Jade Goody. I remember her doctor having to come on tv to say she was terminal, what a shame some people have learnt nothing.

during her illness, the reality TV star Jade Goody was accused by some people of faking or "milking" her cancer diagnosis for publicity. Goody vehemently denied these accusations, which caused her significant distress

Goody was deeply affected by these claims, stating: "I'm sitting her desperately trying to come to terms with the fact that I might die, while people are out there accusing me of making my illness up. Call me a racist, call me a bigot, a chav, whatever - but don't call me a liar over this".

Indianrollerbird · 09/01/2026 22:59

As far as I can tell, a royal rota reporter from Sky erroneously stated Catherine’s condition was pre cancerous, and “Kate hate” social media users trolled her as a liar as a result. This Sky report was corrected and countered by KP, who confirmed Catherine had actual cancer, as indeed Catherine stated in her March 2023 video. Unfortunately, the lie has persisted and continues to be trotted out. Claims of complicated narratives and the like.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/01/2026 23:04

In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment

This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.

As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.

valentinka31 · 09/01/2026 23:06

I think that after she faced not being alive, she really connected with the natural world and found it healing and strengthening. I think she’s fallen in love with life and realised how precious it is, and how beautiful, and wanted to show us it and get us to see it too.

AbsolutelyWeCan · 09/01/2026 23:11

Nice scenery but the rest is just cringey, embarrassing PR rubbish. I think the Royals are feeling quite desperate at the moment and it’s showing.

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2026 23:28

There is a lot of bitter jealousy on this thread. Look at yourselves. Maybe get out more. In Nature.

beigeybeige · 09/01/2026 23:31

This is what I mean about you couldn’t pay me to be a royal. You can’t even have cancer without someone randomly saying no it’s not cancer. Wierd thing to post.

I am grateful that we do have a royal family because they are useful in the case of QEII for moral contrast to the likes of Boris Johnson over Covid (the Queen attending her own husband’s funeral at a distance to everyone else vs corruption of Johnson taking the complete piss over breaking Covid laws because he thinks he’s above all that)

plus the royals being in goodwill and money via charitable causes, soft power/ diplomacy support and also tourism and obviously Charles has never been wrong to push the multi faith approach and highlight the environment as a cause, going back decades.

paddleboardingmum · 09/01/2026 23:40

I think she's so privileged and so is everyone around her, that she probably means well but has no idea how out of touch it seems to a lot of people. If you live in the countryside you might have access to some lovely nature but plenty of people don't even have that. Wandering around an estate you own reciting poetry while people are struggling so much is very out of touch.

Ohpleeeease · 10/01/2026 00:13

Onviously we can’t all live near rolling hills but most people have access to something. Not everyone lives in the arse end of a big city, quite a lot of people do have Nature within reach. It’s good to be reminded of that.

redmangyfox · 10/01/2026 00:13

SisterTeatime · 09/01/2026 21:25

True, and I think she does a good job. I don’t think she is very relatable though. That’s what I was responding to. Even the late Queen, in a vastly different era, did things like driving during WWII. Was it partly for PR, with choreographed photo opportunities? Of course, but it allowed people to relate to her differently.

Did it though? Or was she in the same privileged sheltered position that Harry was in when in the military?
