Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

There was a spell of this when Catherine's cancer was first diagnosed. The assertions were both outlandish and disgusting - hard to believe that decent people would think these things. Two years down the line we still have this . It truly is shocking. I hope that these cancer deniers never have to face themselves or a member of their family be hit by this. Cancer is ugly. It's not like it's depicted in movies. It's painful and it's traumatic for all involved. It's fear, desperation, relief and agony. One thing it isn't is " complicated".

BemusedAmerican · 10/01/2026 17:44

@redmangyfox Thanks for the info. My impression from previous posted was few people in the UK had access to nature.

BTW, Catherine's films may turn out to be a boost to tourism. I keeping looking at those gorgeous landscapes and thinking that I should save up for a UK vacation.

I've seen lots of positive comments about her films by US residents on other sites.

BasiliskStare · 10/01/2026 17:46

@BemusedAmerican - further to @redmangyfox post re London and its green spaces . If you can get BBC iPlayer on anything , my mother I watched David Attenborough's Wild London over Christmas, It's worth a watch . I agree to keep / introduce more green spaces in any large city is worth doing. For everyone. This is just a trailer - I'm not clever enough to point you to the whole thing. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m002hzg7/watch/p0mnp0k9

ETA - on the topic - I wasn't keen on Kate's video. I got her point but a few more shots of nature in urban areas / flowers in window boxes / parks I think would have allayed some criticisms of the rather Marie Antionette ness. I don't disagree with her message - I would personally not have done it quite like that. But I am not she. (Obvs 😊)

BemusedAmerican · 10/01/2026 17:47

@BasiliskStare I have Bro this through Amazon. I'll see if I can watch it through there. Thanks!

BemusedAmerican · 10/01/2026 17:49

We are pretty wild in the larger NYC parks, with deer and now coyotes. I' m hoping the wolves won't move down, too. My brother sees deer on a regular basis.

As I said way up thread, this is the last of a suite of four videos based on the seasons in Nature. It’s 90 seconds of puff. I’m glad Catherine has been helped by Nature and I understand why she has become something of an advocate for it.

People can be a bit evangelical when they discover something works for them, it’s natural to want to share it.

Was the video a good idea? Based on the reaction here, probably not. But folks, no-one was harmed in the making of this video.

Your answer shows that you do not believe that Catherine had cancer and was treated for it .

You claim you are not derailing ! Wow! Well it's good that you said that this as your post stands to show what kind of person you are.

Litigate my arse. A simple yes or no but you have not got the guts to say it.

A little heavy handed on the personal attacks there @redmangyfox .

Clearly, you have an appetite for a fight.

I don't.

So, this is my last answer to you.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 10/01/2026 17:59

She’d have more credibility if she and her family didn’t use helicopters like most of us use buses, and if she hadn’t just cut the public off from accessing vast swathes of land near their latest forever home.

The thread is not about her cancer but about the video she has put out. It seems that some posters just want to derail the thread for some reason.

Indeed!

I do feel the reactions to a rather benign video is rather curiously overinflated! 🤷‍♀️

redmangyfox · 10/01/2026 17:16

There is no debate.

It is a fact unless you are another who believe she, her medical team and the palace have lied. Do you think this is the case?

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. I absolutely believe she had cancer. I understand what she said when she explained it.

Ohpleeeease · 10/01/2026 18:03

@BemusedAmerican it’s the opposite, most people in the UK DO have access to nature. Only in the grubbier parts of big cities might you find it more difficult, even then there are projects everywhere to bring nature into people’s lives.

The issue is not availability but time, and there I have some sympathy. People have full lives and it’s difficult to break away from the daily grind. I think the video glosses over that unfortunately.

I don't think Catherine is trying to be relatable in her videos. She is intelligent enough to know that she lives a life very few could relate to. (While we are talking about being relatable doesn't mumsnet show every day that very few can relate to a life that is outside their own experience and few even try. )

I think the Mother's Day furore was so awful that both William and Catherine decided that they would use social media the way they want to since nothing they do will ever please everyone. They don't release photos to the press anymore for birthdays, as an example, they just put them on Instagram.

I believe that this series of films is just Catherine saying that nature helped her and that time outside can help others. Which is true. She isn't apologising for her life, or her engagement ring, she is communicating what she wants to say in the ways she wants to.

Agreed 👍, the video isn’t to my taste but I feel people are reacting in a rather strong fashion, if the mainstream media hadn’t lifted it , you would have to search it out on her instagram, which personally I wouldn’t have done.

The media have only lifted a couple of the videos as well. It's been a whole series and some highlighted different groups iirc.

As someone who had a country upbringing I find them a bit soft focus Milais, but they aren't my experience they are her's.

Indeed i live in Wiltshire and am surrounded by countryside, it’s a tad twee for my tastes but obviously my feelings towards cities and London would be at odds with others 🤷‍♀️

As is often stated on these threads the opinions on here do not reflect that of the general public and as Catherine consistently tops the polls as Britains’s most popular royal that clearly holds water in her case. Whether you like the video or not, will it see her go down to the bottom in the polls because of it? Highly unlikely, for some people it will make them warm to her even more.

Then you should agree then that is the same with Meghan, who puts out content on her Instagram and it wont please everyone. She is using her Instagram the wat she wants to wouldn't you agree? But you still feel the need to criticise her for her choices about what she wants to say and how she says it...💁‍♀️

Do I need to explain how personal opinion works? My personal opinion is that this thread is disgusting. I don’t think the other ones are. That’s my response. If other threads crop up that I think are digusting, I will say so. A difficult concept, I know.

Edited to change a comma to a full stop, in case it was too confusing for some to work out.
