Here's a summary for you - it's full of British traditions like cracker pulling which she explains 🙄 , how to decorate a tree with lights and wearing matching pyjamas with her friends. Harry appears for the last 5 mins.

I really love that Catherine has started this tradition. She brings so many different people together, many ordinary people who have made a difference and the event celebrates the things that really matter in life.

I agree with you but it's a pity her earrings cost close to £12k, that's where the royals lose me.

It's highly unlikely they'd allow their child to be cold!

I doubt they were cold, healthy kids walking from a car to a building don't get cold. But i disagree that their parents wouldn't allow them to get cold - putting on a brave face during mild physical discomfort is bred into them from a young age! The uniforms made of inappropriate fabric in all weathers, the high heels for the women (and men on occasion), the "never complain, never explain".
Those kids could be out until their lips are blue and they'd just have to suck it up.

Have you never seen wealthy people wear expensive jewellery and clothing?

upinaballoon · 06/12/2025 09:15

Haven't read the thread so I don't know if she said that having a tree was a German custom introduced - more-or-less - to Britain, by Prince Albert.

upinaballoon · 06/12/2025 09:18

Oh, right, we're up to Catherine's earrings.

I have indeed however they aren't out in public professing to understand the general publics issues such as poverty, homelessness etc.

I think the royals could reign in their wealth a bit. William has a huge opportunity to modernise the monarchy, starting with being more open about their wealth, their wills and toning down their own spending.

Maybe I'm being the grinch but it hits a nerve with me. I've also read Norman Baker's book and it really opened my eyes to the royals.

Right. That's strange, because I've seen many celebrities - including the Sussexes, demonstrating significant wealth.

Yes. Apparently she's the first wealthy woman in the public eye to wear expensive earrings.
Not like Meghan...

So, a totally normal experience for anyone living in the UK? At school kids are sent outside for break and lunch and if it's cold they just have to get used to it. That's how we roll.

I'm talking about the Royal Family who have official roles in public life. Celebrities do not.

The Sussex's don't have any official roles however I think they are utter hypocrites too.

I'm loving the drama of the royal children being outside and cold untill "their lips turn blue" though! 😂

ThePoshUns · 06/12/2025 09:26

What is she supposed to wear? Clare’s accessories?
A lot of what she wears is to champion British designers and makers. ( I don’t know where the earrings are from).

upinaballoon · 06/12/2025 09:39

Serenster · 05/12/2025 21:52

Chocolate and raspberries, yes. The tangy taste of the raspberries pairs very well with the chocolate. Raspberry spread, not so much. All that added sugar completely take away the reason why the combination works!

Raspberry jam and Nutella sandwich (bread.) Sounds OK to me. You could put that into the middle of a Victoria sponge(cake).

I'm sometimes amazed at how few clothes some people need when I'm needing jumpers and a coat, so I guess the tall children were warm enough.

upinaballoon · 06/12/2025 09:47

As this is a thread about Meghan's tree I hardly dare ask if Kate Winslet was in her dungarees and wellies? That is NOT a preposterous question. She's had her sausage and mash moments when it was trendy 'to do like the plebs'.

Old men who have their legs amputated are quite ill, I think.

EmpressSisi · 06/12/2025 09:59

It’s not as though Catherine bought them specifically for the service, she already owned them, having worn them previously at the Top Gun premiere. They also look quite Christmassy, so they suit the occasion perfectly.

And honestly, part of her role is to champion British fashion and jewellery designers, so I don’t mind her spending a bit more if it means supporting local businesses, big and small.

The earrings are from RobinsonPellham, a British company. They have some beautiful pieces.

Don’t you go promoting female owned, British businesses too! Buy some £9.99, made in China stainless steel ones, and self flagellate for not giving that tenner to the homeless.

Meghan is not getting as much clicks anymore on her Insta, low millions, still a lot, but for someone pushing everything in the way she does, a Netflix show, her name recognition, and with People Magazine on speed dial, the interest from not even a year ago has really dissapated.

I wanted to like her but its hard not to think she's just a status conscious, shallow , social climber who isnt anywhere near as clever or talented as she thinks she is. She is, without doubt, very physically attractive, and i think harry just got smitten. He doesnt strike me as the brightest, and I think they'll split up eventually. I cant imagine what she'll do then. I imagine it will become a sort of dynastic thing with the children being prepared for leading roles on the world stage.....becauswefor some reaaon the Sussexes seem to think we all need their expert guidance and advice in order to live full and satisfying lives , and that the world will somehow cave in if they dont vontinue tk stick their oars in.

Perhaps there is a middle ground.

There's a big gap from 9.99 cheap tat to £12k. You don't need to spend £12k to promote British businesses.

You don’t have to spend anything to promote British businesses. Catherine chooses to and good for her. She’s worn plenty of high street makes in the past, and now she’s wearing something in a higher price bracket. They will no doubt be worn repeatedly and handed down as an heirloom piece as many of Diana’s pieces were. No big deal to anyone but the patronising and the churlish. Did Saint Norman Baker put a price cap on goods/businesses she’s allowed to promote?
