The royal family

As ever, WLM, PR disasters continued

Online, people are pointing out that a very expensive cashmere jumper that Meg wore on suits, also made its way to her wardrobe

It’s been nothing but PR disasters of late.

What I have noticed which is curious - is that the UK tabloids are not running with P6 story about the dress. Just like they avoided talking about the NY car chase. They only reported on the media frenzy. But, we know Harry sent out some sort of memo not to publish photos etc. None of the UK press did. Now Meg has acknowledged the stolen dress story and released an official refute ….and none of the UK press are even reporting on that?

That’s weird. They will literally print any old Meg story to get clicks…..but not this one???

The articles on this issue are mainly American.

Side issue I know - but surely he isn't 'of Wales' and 'Sussex'?

Does Sussex not supersede Wales?

He has not been 'of Wales' since the day Charles became King. That is William and his family's name now.

Don't you know he's Sussex now? (Eye roll...)

I need to lighten up? Jeez!

Some of you were actually criticising a child earlier down thread bc their hair wasn’t brushed to your satisfaction!

I never criticised a child.

Jeez! Quite an accusation.

Well, if Harry really has a diplomatic visa, he allegedly can't work for pay in the US. Other legitimate visa holders are being deported but he's safe from any investigation because he's a prince.

He's married to a woman who has herself announced with her title to a room containing one person in a private house in NYC.

NYC has had non- stop no- King protests. We are a blue city in a blue state.

We also have to pay for his security when he is in town because his own security can't keep him safe in a cab.

Sorry but he came across as a jerk to me. But hey, I'm just an American.

That's what I thought - Colbert's long intro apparently included both

Indianrollerbird · 04/12/2025 12:33

It's interesting that he took a pop at Trump at that estate agent event in Canada (referring to his bad leadership), which, I understand, included quite a lot of political discussion; and a couple of days later, another pop at Trump on Colbert. I have long thought that Canada is a country he's been courting with repeated visits - perhaps as a halfway house for him between the US and the UK. I wonder if he thinks making remarks like that about Trump will help him get a foothold in Canada? Where he can live as a quasi royal along the lines of Edward VIII's Bahamian role.

It did, although it appeared to be quite mocking.

Excellent points.
I think Harry came across as a jerk to many of us. He's relying on people to value him because he's a prince, and that's wearing thin for all but the very hardliners.

Not to mention Meghan's career in Hallmark movies. 😁

Loved Colbert’s summary of the standard Hallmark Christmas movie plot! 😁
Just a bit of fun at Christmas!
And surely anyone making a Trump joke is good news?

I thought it was toe curling from start to finish but humour is subjective.

Anyone can make fun of whoever they like, but someone who insists on being introduced by his British royal titles really should not be cracking political jokes at the expense of the Head of State of his host country. However obnoxious he may be.

Edited

Why not? Trump is appalling!

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 04/12/2025 12:55

Is thsu US not being accustomed to UK titles?

I do wonder if modern databases systems are actually an issue for titled people more generally - as actors who frequently have different stage names and many like Michael Caine end up changing to them as passport controls or other systems started causing them issues.

Harry surname is Mountbatten -Windsor but he had curtsey surname Wales while his Dad held title Prince of Wales. He was gifted his own title upon marriage of Sussex - it's his (currently) - they tend to do that as Britsih RF have tradition of naming where spouse shares title so otherwise Megahn would have been Princess Henry.

I do think with kids and in a different country to issuing titles I'd be tempted to use legal means - deed poll in UK - to change surname to Sussex just to avoid issues.

My granddad went through life using a different name to his birth certificate never an issue - my doing fairly common thing of changing my name on marriage endless trouble - difference seems to be records and tracking though in modern world. That is something I find odd Catherine and Meghan both changed their names upon marriage and annoucnements reflect that but media frequently still uses maiden names for them.

I don't disagree that he is appalling. But you are missing the point.

But the one and only reason Harry was on that stage is because he is the son of the King of the United Kingdom. He has no talents, no skills, no credentials. Other than being royal. He insists on using his British royal titles everywhere he goes. It is not appropriate for him, as a member of the British royal family, to publicly make jokes at the expense of the Head of State of the country in which he is a guest. However 'appalling' said Head of State may be.

You genuinely don't get this?

jeffgoldblum · 04/12/2025 12:59

I have to admit when earlier on the thread I was predicting what either of them would do to ( attempt) to overshadow Catherine and William, this ? ,this ? Was definitely not something I expected! 😬

canklesmctacotits · 04/12/2025 12:59

His dad and brother and SIL just hosted Trump for a state visit, the focal point (supposedly - Nick Clegg called them crumbs off Silicon Valley’s table) of a series of trade deals intended to benefit the UK and British people.

And here’s Harry, introduced as a Prince, having a pop at the same Trump for acting like a king. He, the son of an actual king. If he eschews monarchy - give uk your and your DCs’ prince/ess titles. If you love them, are you, a visitor in the USA and a guest at their leisure, really having a pop at its leader, odious as he may be? And what does this say about your dad and brother?

He’s so stupid. Seriously. Just dumb. And untrustworthy. A loose canon.

He will never give up being a prince, because that's all he has. He'll cling to it forever. As will his wife.

Even if Harry were not a Prince, as a guest in the United States, it's still not appropriate for him to make political jokes in public.

I've lived in several foreign countries and have (usually!) managed to keep my opinions on local politics to myself. It's not really my place as a guest to offer opinions, unless asked. Much better to listen to what the locals have to say. Which isn't of course to say that you can't have opinions, just that you might be best advised to keep them to yourself.

Of course, Harry being the son of the King who recently hosted Trump on an important State Visit makes it so much worse. But he's too thick to get it.

BemusedAmerican · 04/12/2025 13:11

Harry has criticized the First Amendment yets uses it to criticize Trump on air.

I also have not heard of Harry stepping up to support anti- ICE protestors and anti- King demonstrators in Los Angeles.

Precisely, IcedPurple, but this is what we get when there's a total lack of introspection or even basic understanding

As for Canada, @Indianrollerbird, Harry may or may not be thinking of it as a "half way house", but even leaving aside the issue of whether they'd want him can you imagine him selling that one to his wife? Confused
