The royal family

As ever, WLM, PR disasters continued

Online, people are pointing out that a very expensive cashmere jumper that Meg wore on suits, also made its way to her wardrobe

It’s been nothing but PR disasters of late.

What I have noticed which is curious - is that the UK tabloids are not running with P6 story about the dress. Just like they avoided talking about the NY car chase. They only reported on the media frenzy. But, we know Harry sent out some sort of memo not to publish photos etc. None of the UK press did. Now Meg has acknowledged the stolen dress story and released an official refute ….and none of the UK press are even reporting on that?

That’s weird. They will literally print any old Meg story to get clicks…..but not this one???

The articles on this issue are mainly American.

So an interesting article - it’s not a British paper review. It’s the Washington Post

https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/2025/12/03/meghan-markle-christmas-special-netflix/

They don’t think much of her do they? I could almost feel sorry for her but then I remember Oprah, the mocking curtsey, the backtracking on racist allegations.

CurlewKate · 03/12/2025 23:09

The very first thing the PofW should do when he becomes King is ban the wearing of Orders for women in evening clothes.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 03/12/2025 23:14

A new tiara at last! So glad the Lovers Knot has been left in the vaults, bored of seeing it.

In contrast, here’s Catherine at tonight’s state banquet for the German president, wearing Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet tiara. Their lives couldn’t be more different...

Well yes, they are different. Meghan has to earn a living.

She could have stayed but it was obviously an untenable situation for her and/or Harry. No one walks away from that sort of luxury and security without something being very wrong with the situation.

I think Catherine looks lovely, very glamorous as usual.

@BemusedAmerican For example, my family watches "The Lion in Winter" every Christmas. Thank you for reminding me that this is actually a Christmas movie. I was reading a book yesterday where characters were discussing favourite Christmas movies, and briefly, in passing, I couldn't think of one.

Now you've given me a gift: it's a splendid movies. Well written, clever, fabulous cast, great characters, very talky with overwrought emotions - everything I love in a movie or stage play.

I hope you mean the version with Peter O'Toole? Much as I love Patrick Stewart and thought that version good, it couldn't match the intensity of the earlier version.

Of course Peter O' Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Howell, Timothy Dalton, and John Hurt. Dream cast. Amazing soundtrack.

But that’s not what happened at all.

They both wanted half in half out. They announced to the world that they were choosing to collaborate with QE2.

When this wasn’t an option - they flounced off across the pond and lashed out in a narc rage with a series of revenge attacks.

I think also BP was closing in on MM bullying behaviours which have followed her everywhere pre and post BP and on both sides of the Atlantic so she fled.

Those poor people paid £200 to hear the same old script, ROFL at the Hilton, Toronto. He had nothing to say about the housing crisis in Canada other than the insightful ‘ I don’t like living in a city’. No wonder he needs Meghan, the puppet master with him 24/7. He really is as thick as mince.

I think that’s an insult to mince

I wonder how things would have turned out for them if they had taken advice and some time to find their feet as a married couple before plunging into royal duties. Instead Meghan wanted to hit the ground running whilst Harry appears to have told her nothing about how the Royal family worked. They set themselves up for failure because neither of them had the patience to go slowly, think things through and take time to work out what they wanted to do and how it would fit in with the rest of the firm.

The same impatience to get to the end of the process, rather than go step by step, has shown in the way they have done things post Brexit. I think As Ever still has the potential to be successful, Meghan just needs to go slowly and build the brand rather than expecting it all to be there from Day one.

I think that tiara is slightly too big for Catherine's head but i understand it was designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria so it fits with the occasion.

No they wanted half in half out. Only flounced when told No. Honestly their grandiose statement should be pinned on every RF thread. It can be read here.

I seriously don’t understand what Harry wants out of his new life.

He wants to court publicity and be a celeb? But the only thing he can do is talk about being a royal. It’s pathetic.

Also making political jokes in America, a country where you aren’t a citizen is outright stupid.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15351767/Prince-Harry-Stephen-Colbert-Trump.html#

What on earth was the point in him doing this?

I don't think Harry believes he has a new life. He seems to think he is living his old life, just in California and without the grey men holding him back. From what he has said he truly believes he is still living a royal life of service.

Indianrollerbird · 04/12/2025 08:12

Maybe Harry actually wants Trump to throw him out of the US?

They seem very cosy, Colbert and Harry. I used to wonder who told Colbert to randomly join in with the affair rumour and talk to an American audience about an English woman they'd never heard of. Now I'm wondering if this vindictive man asked his pal to do it.

I think the As Ever ship has sailed.

It's going to be very hard to turn around two years of jumbled marketing and brand image. Two years if you count the 'American Riviera Orchard' failure to launch.

Besides, she's not producing anything of any particular value. You can get flower sprinkles, pancake mix, scented candles and whatever the latest 'product' is just about anywhere. Hers have no unique selling point. The idea seems to be that you buy them because Meghan is a Duchess, but beyond her vocal but small group of mega fans, that's not really going to convince anyone to part with their cash.

Celebrity brands are a bit last decade in any case.

Bit sexist to say "grey men" is it not. Should we not say " grey people", or is that too close to "lizard people" ?

Only joking :-)

I do agree with what you say. The grey "entities" are there for a reason.

Another example of a person who refuses to listen to expert advisors is Trump.

Advisors is a better word. Grey advisors. But the word Grey just reminds me of John Major for some reason. The grey man in the grey suit :-)

Colbert is playing him. Colbert is known to be quite anti- British and now he has a stooge. He did this last time with Harry. Harry can’t see they are taking the piss out of him, not the monarchy.

Its embarrassing.

Harry is hamming up his titles to make political jokes about another country. He needs stripped asap

OP posts:
NewAgeNewMe · 04/12/2025 08:28

I wonder though if Harry would carry on using the titles even if stripped. I wouldn’t be surprised or change his name by deedpoll…

AtIusvue · 04/12/2025 08:29

He is also happy to take the piss out of his titles and station, yet we know how those two desperately value/cling to them!!

The guy is a fruit loop

Is it a jab at his father and brother for their successful "soft" diplomatic reception of Trump earlier this year? Or is he trying to curry favour amongst West Coast, anti-Trump elites? Either way, using his titles to facilitate this public dialogue is surely bringing the RF into disrepute. And surely no coincidence this appearance was scheduled on the same day as the German state visit.

Prince "no evidence, borderline vexatious litigant" Harry is in no position to be taking jabs at other parties for settling court cases.

Indianrollerbird · 04/12/2025 08:57

Trump absolutely hates Colbert, and has an extremely fragile ego when it comes to attacks from the late night comedians. I wonder if he will take umbrage and publicly attack this skit with Harry and take proper offense over it.

It’s so weird how they trash the monarchy and poke fun etc but at the same time want to be referred to as royals. That’s what annoys a lot of people - including me.
I don’t blame Meghan for wanting to live in her home country near her mum. I don’t blame Harry for wanting to escape the institution of royalty. So just do something else. Launch a lifestyle brand, set up a charity - whatever. Just stop clinging to the titles and references to the family and move on.

Yes I can understand her wanting to be near her Mum although it was always her Dad she talked about pre Harry. I think she simply wanted to be with the so called A listers .
Harry never wanted to escape ; he wanted to do stuff that he found interesting and whatever Meghan wanted to do . I think it must have been a huge shock to him when the Royal door was firmly closed behind him.
He is desperately trying to remind people that he is the King’s son .

Indianrollerbird · 04/12/2025 09:08

This is absolutely demonstrative that Harry was never suited to royal life, the diplomatic role being a working royal entails, and should not be allowed to be a working royal again. He just flaps his idiotic mouth and doesn't care about the consequences.
